A game on the go that isn't 7+ years old. Maybe a game that everyone and their mother hasn't played through countless times at this point. We can blame Bethesda for some of the above things, but the Switch is hardly any more advanced than consoles that are far outdated at this point.
"In half" is a bit much. You do realize the Switch has a better frame rate and resolution when it's docked, right? It's probably not nearly as big a difference as you claim.
I was reluctant to get this for my switch. I haven’t played Skyrim since 2011. I started playing it on my switch 3 days ago and I haven’t been able to put it down. Blaz3 Gam3r77 Well, it is more than playable according to a lot of reviews and youtube gameplays. I will for sure buy them, Doom and Skyrim, and also LA Noir.
If you look at its raw power its like a modern mobilized GTX280 so compared to the PS3's GeForce 7800 GPU and the XBOX 360's TeraScale X1900 it should be far more capable. The GTX 280 is old technology now but in the mobile space its perfect since 900p is very sharp on a tablet like the Switch. The Xbox 360 and PS3 were only really capable of 720P
Nice, it's looking quite good. I knew it wouldn't be as nice looking as the PC or PS4 version, but I didn't expect it to actually look better than the last gen versions, thought it would be a straight port but looks like they did a little bit of polish as well. Shame about those bugs though.
How can you not expect it to look better then a last gen version.. if the switch couldn't look better than a console make nearly 10 years ago I'd sell my damn switch.
Mark simple... Bethesda are the laziest developers going, figured it would be easier for them to port the 360 version with no changes than the remastered version scaling back. Also figured they'd fix their game too, but no such luck.
Mercy Severity you not trying making a good point. It's a handheld with two separate controllers that can be played by two people on the go. It can go in two modes docked and undocksd. With being 720p undocksd and 900p docked for skyrim.
What we are comparing nowadays is just ridiculous. They all look almost the same. There are only minor differences which goes for almost every modern game. I don´t care about those luxury problems. I already own the PS3 version and I am looking forward to purchase the Switch version to play it on the go. I will play the Sony exclusives on the PS4 Pro, I will play the Nintendo exclusives and some third party games on the Switch, and I will play other games on the Xbox One X or the PC.

It seems like it’s using assets from both version of the game, some scenes vs PS4 look 100% identical and then some scenes looked VERY different. Like the waterfall scene looked exactly the same, the fire spell scene looked exactly the same, but things like the scene with foliage around the road was very different I guess because of memory limitations(8gb vs 4gb). I’m glad it’s at least 1080p30 docked and 720p30 undocked
I know everyone is tired of hearing this But, come on, they put skyrim in the switch, they CAN put fallout in the too, at least all the games before 4.
@@brandosuwoo6816 I mean, come on!, they put the witcher 3 in the switch, they Sure can put all the fallout games, at least to 4, But I know why they didn't re-released the games.
That's what I said when the Switch was first announced, it holds up pretty damn well. Considering it is a hybrid system, and we have no comparison so far, besides Nvidia shield (that has almost the same specs), its performance is quite remarkable. Of course, it cannot compete with the PS4 (That is still quite bulky, even the S variety) or a high end PC (That is considerably more expensive). You just can't build it that way and, at the same time, keep up the price tag, when it is supposed to deliver PS4 performance. Having said that, Switch owners can be happy with their system.
Nicholas Pine I think right now people what to see how well the switch runs. Graphics and frame rate are the best way to see how it's keeping up with the other console. Of course people don't expect it to be as good but I think they are surprised how good the switch looks considering its portability.
Graphics don’t normally matter when you’re talking about a 5 year old game. But Bethesda keeps pushing it on new consoles, so the comparison is always being brought up. Personally, I wouldn’t like to play Skyrim on Switch because I would like to spend as much time with it as possible. Staring at the tablet w low res textures would strain my eyes and break immersion.
The foliage has been drastically reduced and the frame rate seems capped at 30. The texture quality is also reduced. Most won't be noticed unless compared side-by-side and the immersiveness will more or less be the same. Smart move to not try for 60fps and severely reduce graphics imo.
So no fight starts clealry pc the best but consel wise switch really ain't that behind of ps4(visually) matter fact they look very similer except for things like plant life and draw distances but even that's minamal in places. And ps3 is just the worse but looks playable if you still want it
So the Switch version is a step up from PS3 but below PS4. Basically exactly what I expected. BUT is this the Special Edition? Does this game have the bugfixes and such that the SE has? Does it have things like the god rays and enhanced water flows?
That was my guess, but it's hard to actually tell based on these images. With the reduced ground clutter it looks more like the original release, but I had a feeling they would use the special edition as their base for this and tone it down from there, rather than working with the original and sprucing that up.
I mean I know you guys don't have to much quality content but a least put the name of the console on the thumb nail. You have a 3 version comparison but only show 2 pictures on the thumb nail? You were able to fit six on the BF2 video!. I guess what ever it takes to get a view now, right?
Oof, bought myself a ps3 last year and got this game(among 20 others) on it, played it once and never again. But on the switch it looks kinda decent so might pick it up in a sale.
I've had Skyrim on Switch since it came out, and honestly I don't really compare it to any of the other versions. It holds up really well on its own. Plus, it's Skyrim on the go, so it's got that advantage over the other versions.
Louvidion I don’t have a switch lite I have a normal switch but from what I have seen it runs better than the Xbox and Ps4 version it doesn’t over heat like them too
So bassically, the Switch is running the PC version of Oldrim (32bit exe) and not the updated Special Edition. There's nothing particulatly wrong with that if it's what the hardware can handle.
It looks good, I'll pick it up just to have it on the go, Any word on mod support? its doubtful with a nintendo product but it could be a another good reason to look at it.
ofcourse. the graphical differences will be less and less as years go by and instead of pumping in graphical juice they have to innovate and also make the world more interactive ( more to do)
I own skyrim on the 360, pc, and the special edition on pc. I may eventually pick up skyrim on switch if the price drops so i can play on the go and try out motion controls. Skyrim really does never get old after playing the game so much
Switch is remastered version. Some of the volumetric lighting is toned down and the foliage isn't as dense in some parts but the textures and stuff are remastered. Plus the foliage, while not as dense as the remaster, is more dense than the PS360 versions.
Frame rate does matter, even with a controller. But good luck getting 60fps on something you can fit in your pocket. (if you remove the joy-cons at least) This is a completely fair compromise, especially considering ALL console versions run at 30fps.
Ah, so 2 switch games for game of the year itself, but take a look at the name of the award show and check the other nominated categories :> *it was like 6 nintendo games my bad*
Marshall Elite did you even watch the video? The Switch looks much better but there are some scenes where it did look similar. But the Switch version definitely has higher textures, higher resolution(1080p), better lighting
Its looks much closer to the special edition versions than the PS3 version. Definitely not on par, but closer. It has also been confirmed to be running a dumbed down version of the SE version. This video is weird though, it looks like they used the original edition on PC (cranked all the way up though) instead of the SE version. Though, at the time of the release of the SE version, I still preferred it + mods to the SE version. I should re download SE and try the mods on that now that they are available. That said, I still want the Switch version for portability.
So the Switch version is somewhere between the original version and the Remastered Edition. Actually better looking than i expected. Comparing it to the PC version just seemed ridiculous though.
E3 2018- Skyrim coming to your iOS and android devices, E3 2019- Skyrim coming to your Apple watch, E3 2020- Skyrim coming to your household smart appliances, E3 2021- Skyrim being re-visioned for remastered. Cycle continues, skyrim will continue to eternity.
only thing that annoys me is the lack of grass on the switch... i like how on pc its full of grass all around... but switch is just lacking it and it feels like some of the life of skyrim just isnt there...
Ok I made my conclusion, if you turn down the backlight on the switch a little and add some saturation, it looks much better. I like the Switch's graphics because it's simple and calming. Not like my eyes have to be focused all the time.
I already own 2 separate versions of this game. The only reason to purchase the game now is if you have never played it before now, or if you have and you just absolutely need to have a portable version of skyrim because you are never at home and want to play it on the go. I def wont buy this again, if I did I would get the pc version of it.
PS3 textures might be worse in some places, but it has a better draw distance and they've actually had to cut down on the number of trees for it to run on switch.
We may have Kingdom Hearts 3 on Nintendo Switch later. KH3 doesn’t have a gigantic overworld like Skyrim. And Skyrim was able to run on system smoothly
When you play this game it's not realy even matter what is the console you play the game, just because you dont notice any difference while playing. And look that sice difference compare to the PC/Laptop or PS3/PS4. If you can choose that you can play every where you want and it's not depending on the place, i defenitely choose the Switch version. And yes... I have Skyrim for PC too with every single graphic candy mod and still i choose Switch because it is so handy and my pocket candy. I know u dont notice the difference. But hey, Skyrim on the go and just a compact tiny device in to you bag. When you want to go Skyrim you can do it where ever you are!!! ;)
I honestly was expecting a bit better from the switch especially with foliage. This does not bode well for current gen ports with plants. Good by dreams of a paired back witcher 3 on the go.

Ah, so 2 switch games for game of the year itself, but take a look at the name of the award show and check the other nominated categories :>
*it was like 6 nintendo games my bad*
CAX117 *"i dunt kare it'z stil a merio macchin1!!1!"*
*Zelda, Mario, Pokken, Splatoon, Arms, Mario + rabbids, Doom, Skyrim, L.A Noire, Fire emblem warriors, Xenoblade machine
Their I fixed your typo :)
Makes sense it would fall somewhere in between the two. Mods make a difference, but base game wise Switch is in between the two versions and portable.
Wow the PS3 kinda looks like the switch version.
Marshall Elite its because they have the classic version
Emperor Cryo switch version is the remastered one. And it looks and runs way better than the ps3 version.
Marshall Elite did you even watch the video? The Switch looks much better but there are some scenes where it did look similar. But the Switch version definitely has higher textures, higher resolution(1080p), better lighting
Rafael Bruno but ps3 has better graphics and texture than switch version...
That moment when the PS3 version looks better.
You must be blind, switch is using better textures, also similar lighting to ps4
The Switch has much higher res textures, better AA etc... On PS3 this game is a jagged, blurry mess that can't even maintain 30fps most of the time
Blind as a bat if you think that
The moment you forget the switch is handheld
TheFNProductionz Switch has no textures that cheap nvidia chip is bullshit
Got this during the eshop black friday sale for $30. Best 30 dollars I’ve ever spent.
Amazing that this is handheld
Playing on switch (that portability!!) So worth it it's a must have!
Wow Switch version looks closer to Ps4 than ps3. Way to go Nintendo and Bethesda! Now I want Fall Out 4 please!
Is it worth it on switch of I never played skyrim before?
Very worth it 100%
only thing that annoys me is the lack of grass on the switch... i like how on pc its full of grass all around... but switch is just lacking it and it feels like some of the life of skyrim just isnt there...
I haven't played skyrim remastered yet. Does it still have a lot of bugs?
Ok I made my conclusion, if you turn down the backlight on the switch a little and add some saturation, it looks much better. I like the Switch's graphics because it's simple and calming. Not like my eyes have to be focused all the time.
Isn’t the switch version the remastered version?
Looking forward to the day when I can play ps4 Skyrim remastered graphics on a portable system
The switch actually looks just as good asthe console in some aspects its really surprising to see this from a handheld device
That is pretty damn impressive! Especially for a handheld, im thinking of picking up a switch soon tbh.
It’s a good game. My favorite game in fact. It’s probably best to stop with the graphic nonsense and enjoy games for story and gameplay.
In a nutshell, the switch's version of skyrim is a remaster of the playstation 3's version.
So... Somebody forgot to water the plants in the Switch version?
We may have Kingdom Hearts 3 on Nintendo Switch later.
KH3 doesn’t have a gigantic overworld like Skyrim.
And Skyrim was able to run on system smoothly
So you know nothing about how graphics or hardware work it seems
One less lonely memer you joking hard to tell considering switch looks the best
When you play this game it's not realy even matter what is the console you play the game, just because you dont notice any difference while playing. And look that sice difference compare to the PC/Laptop or PS3/PS4. If you can choose that you can play every where you want and it's not depending on the place, i defenitely choose the Switch version. And yes... I have Skyrim for PC too with every single graphic candy mod and still i choose Switch because it is so handy and my pocket candy. I know u dont notice the difference. But hey, Skyrim on the go and just a compact tiny device in to you bag. When you want to go Skyrim you can do it where ever you are!!! ;)
I remember playing Skyrim on ps3 I wish can go back in time & relive thoses days over
I honestly was expecting a bit better from the switch especially with foliage. This does not bode well for current gen ports with plants. Good by dreams of a paired back witcher 3 on the go.
