If it sounds good, it is good, despite what the specs say- Marantz 2215B after restoration review!

    Agree!
I have several low power Sansui amps and receivers using cap coupled, quasi-comp, center tap transformer design. SQ at low to medium volume is magical! Compared to my high watt amps and receivers, my ears prefer the little rippers.

    Absolutely correct Brian !
Quasi complementary capcitor output sounds marvelous on normal to lower soundlevels ...
Same transistors ........same tonality .............I like them too.
Have some Marantz and Luxman sharing ths technology ..........and they are keepers.
Listen to them mostly at night .........tremendous dept and musicality almost magic ..
    Thanks
And YES.......when it sounds good it is GOOD !

I just bought one of these recently... needing repair. Just finished up a Pioneer SX-990 and am now looking forward to jumping into the 2215B. Thanks for the video Brian.

Pioneer SX-990 is a great receiver!

Compared 2215b with 2285b and 2215b is sounding better @ higher frequency warmer crisp and clear. I couldn’t believe that from last 4 years I was listening to the best receiver 😊

Thanks for your observations. I've run into this a few times where lower end models just sound better than top of the line! One theory of mine is that all the extra switches and circuitry degrade the signal.

@@acrossthedial exactly!degrades frequency selectively. Also higher power could also case some kind of interference between different components.

was thinking from some time that why do people like systems that look good. You nailed it now. If it sounds good it’s good. All those beauty freeks either don’t know how to listen or being to modelling or beauty schools 😂

The only real problem that I have with Marantz is price. Currently there are two 2215 (no B, 15 Wpc) in my area for sale, one **reduced** to $775 and the other $1000. After buying a Sansui 661 and a Harman/Kardon 330B (both 20 Wpc) I'm still not up to $775, maybe if I buy one more receiver. So can a Marantz be quantified as actually 3-4 times better than any other name brand? I have a real hard time justifying Marantz prices or finding real value for that much money spent.

The pricing in my area is bonkers as well. Marantz is the highest with Sansui a close second.

@@acrossthedial a couple Sansui on Marketplace within 2 hours of me: a 661 for $225 and a 771 for $300, and have been for sale for a while now. I figured they'd be snapped up. Thinking of grabbing one or both myself.

2215b is really beautiful sounding machine. I spent a lot of time and money to fix it myself and recap after I bought from a person who had badly done the repair. But @ the end it was worth

It's almost as if the marketers made it all up (the spec wars).

I spent more for my first new system than my first car and soon after it all was out of date! User illusion?
