I met Bruce in 1980 while working as a DJ in Missoula, Montana. The Beach Boys played a concert there and afterward went to the Edgewater Hotel. Bruce was congenial and conversational to my girlfriend and I. I remember him being so warm, authentic and genuine.
Watching the Beach Boys from the UK since mid 60s, I always rated Bruce. What an asset he was for Brian - and Disney Girls is in my top 5 BB songs. He's right about Smiley Smile as well; a lovely album which I used to listen to along with the Band's later 'brown album'.
@@rejectionisprotection4448 I don't know why you said ouch I've always loved his songs and voice and it just blew my mind to hear him play this song by himself. Sometimes the production of a song changes it I love the record version but this one so persanal.. I didn't mean to insult anyone
This was recommended to me, probably because I watch a ton of Beach Boys content. Didn't know Bruce played with Eddie Cochran. Dude has had a low key amazing life.
Just met and hung out with Bruce Johnston and John Cowsill at a beach in Sarasota two days ago. We did not even recogniced them until they told us who they were. Super nice and fun guys.

Good video, but maybe practice reading your notes before recording the voiceover. The stuttering can be kind of distracting. Not hating, just trying to help you make even better videos.
@@neymaalnajmah2436 like I said, I didn’t know him so i was confused who he was. It was only until I started listening to The Beach Boys is where I was like “wow I met him and I didn’t even know” I took a photo with him and my group
Wow, he really got around. This happened more often than not I see from the different bands he performed with. Well known bands had been using temporary members, even Glenn Campbell. God only knows is one of my favourites by the Beach Boys. Didn't know that Johnston played for all these groups. I appreciate what you're doing by putting all the background information together. I also didn't know that Dennis was supposed sing lead vocals for God Only Knows and I didnt expect him to have laryngitus. I grew up in Hawthorne, CA where Carl was born in the 80s. I also didn't know that Carl is Dean Martin's son in law.
Between clapping, microphone adjusting and looking like he's playing the keyboards at Mike's touring Beach Boys Gigs, he's been working with Skrillex and The Weeknd over the last few years (no really).
blown away by his accomplishments! WOW! Newfound props to you., Mr. Johnston. "Disney Girls" alone makes you great and Rock Hall of Fame-worthy. But Bruce, Mike Love is ... well, you know ...
Is he called Johnston or Johnson? Articulate my dear man, articulate! What a terrible voice over! It makes a vaguely interesting musician sound boring. Mr. R. 😒🎼
Going Public, to me, is like a demo album to showcase his songwriting -- something to send out to pop stars looking for a songwriter/arranger. It's underproduced (except for "Disco Pipeline") for sure, which is ironic considering the great work he did a couple of years later with L.A.
That was a smart decision to leave the Wilson Brothers. They were a bore. Johnston was right. But I didn't know he worked with so many other artists. That's wild!! He was a ghost composer, writer, musician, arranger and singer. Just as so many other fine artists like the fifth Beatles member, Billy Preston. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

He sang another great for the beachboys called Tears in the morning.

Bruce Johnston is an amazingly nice guy! His son looks so much like him too, when he was younger
Which son? I am friends with his youngest and I think I can see it but I don't know if I am just trying to see it.

I met Mr Johnston at Sydney during 50th anniversary tour he shook my hand and could not have been more friendly and outgoing
Bruce has been a major asset to the band, throughout, and has written some truly beautiful songs.
hes still alive and touring with the Beach Boys. I had breakfast with him this Fall in Charleston, WVa
Bruce Jhonson is a key figure in the evolution of The Beach Boys…
It’s truly amazing his talent can be so hidden in plain sight.

What happened to Bruce. Plays 175 Beach Boys gigs a year. Not exactly hiding in a rabbit hole....
175 gigs a year? Not possible, but yes, still alive and well.
Lots of gigs year after year after year
Just saw him and the Boys last week in Clearwater, FL.

Bruce became a dancing, clapping cheerleader in the Mike Love Band.
Johnston is more of a secret weapon for Mike Love's band.
I saw Johnston, Mike Love and 6 strangers calling themselves T he Beach Boys a few years ago.
He was playing keyboard last time i went
Ah be nice! They were pretty good when I saw them and signed autographs for me.

Bruce and Jerry? Pretty sure it is Bruce and "Terry" lol
Nah, there was a Bruce & Jerry as well as Bruce & Terry

Bruce could write an incredible book. I'd love to hear about the murder of Big John Dolphin, which both he and Sandy Nelson were witness to.
did they witness the murder of jimi hendrix too?

I doubt the statement that Billy Hinsche was to replace Bruce in 1969. And that's not Jack Riely at 5:45, it's Dutch DJ Lex Harding.
Beach boys should have added Charlie then all that crap wouldn't have gone down

Bruce could pass for a Kennedy brother
He really does look like a young Ted Kennedy doesn’t he?
Great information but HARD to listen to the stumbling talking!
Definitely
Rex All is the pronunciation. Rexall is the name.
This narrator is clueless.
Useless*
As a very early BB fan, it took me a long time to accept Bruce as a legitimate Beach Boy.
I met Bruce first, through him I met The Beach Boys. I love Bruce, I love the Wilson brothers .

He did some additional backing vocals on The Wall, it's true! 😎👍
