Once again, VOCES8 provides a stunning example of a Schütz motet, leaving no doubt that they are amongst the very best choral ensembles in the world. Stunning dynamic contrasts, German diction, intonation, and sensitivity to style. Wunderschön.
How is it that nothing they do is ever less than stellar? After all these years following them, I still run across new recordings and not a single one disappoints.
Vielen Dank!!😍
Thank you so much for this music, my favorite motet of Heinrich Schütz on the evening before "Volkstrauertag". This is the day for the remembrance of the victims of both world wars and all victims of the Nazis. "Sie ruhen" - @Jonathan: Wonderful, the sound of rest and the other voices like angels above. If there are pieces, which can Show us the eternity - this is one of them.
A magnificent display of seemingly effortless control and deftness mastery of dynamics. Your ability to blend the touching with impressive power is a joy to listen to - to experience. Thank you for all your hard work and the hard work put into record, mixing and mastering a performance for those who couldn't be there to experience it in person.
Do more Schütz, please!!! It could be a perfect win-win-win situation 😅: for the glory of this genious composer that died 350 years ago and probably is less known than deserved, for you, Voces8, that blend in this music so perfectly fitting, and for the sheer enjoyment of us, your ever faithful fans! ❤❤
Incredible! This has always been one of my favorite pieces by Schütz. I have listened to a lot of versions but this is clearly the best! Especially because I could actually understand the text. Great articulation as always, Voces8!
Wow! Just wow. This is perfect choral singing. Aside from beauty of tone, the clarity of texture stands out. Diction, rhythm, dynamic control not only from the group, but from each individual part. Wow, again.
Voces8, I am bewildered and delighted by the magnificence of your voices and your harmony. And I'm very impressed by the settings in which you sing. Thank you for such pleasure.
Amazing performance of an absolute classic. The longer baritone note in the last 3 bars actually makes this feel like a barbershop tag ;) Nice work Chris!
Voces8 must be near the top of anything and everything singing. Even with this (to me new) piece, from the first moments -- I don't care, worry, whether they soon sing something very slightly unpure. Does not happen. What a joy, I feel like a child!
Thank you, VOCES8, of again reminding us of the true magnificence and inspiration of this master. This and "Die Himmel erzählen" are two of many to come, one hopes!
@@jared23455 It is the thing I love most about Schutz - Italianate Style meets German Language - something totally unique! EXAMPLE: how the "[u]" vowel in Ruhe is used compositionally to render the meaning of the text! Never tire of this!
@@FruitofSilence This is true - perhaps Voces8 will add a recording (or two) of Hans Leo Hassler compositions which would compliment the Schütz nicely.
Okay. I'm not even a minute in and the control of tempo sounds amazing. ripping off those entrances on time over against the other voices is a feat in itself, even before you account for the way they blend different voice lines.
🙃 Just wanted to say... Thank you for singing. Thank you for giving your all to this transcendental music. Never forget that music expresses what words can't.
What a nice bird’s-eye view in the beginning of the video. Unmistakable German city architecture. For me as a German it is very interesting to hear you sing in my mother language. In the middle it was too „spoken“ , it could have been a nice effect but unfortunately it had a negative impact on the intonation. But all in all great pronunciation: Especially Mollys vowels were really brilliant! Wow!
The moment someone steps back and enjoys the performance of their colleagues... even though this person has a soloist voice.... THIS is teamwork... I'm a native german speaker... and I got EVERY SINGLE word... these voces8 are just... awesome!
I love this piece, and love Voces8 performing it so gorgeously! I'm just daydreaming now about what other gems that Schütz might have composed had he been able to write for you!
I love to listen to Blake Morgan and kind of decoding which part he his singing. In this piece, he moves between the tenor 2 part and the alto part, likely to assist the Altos with Barnaby Smith singing soprano two. Wonderfully done and he blends so well I still can't figure out exactly what notes he's singing!
Excellent spot. In actual fact, all of the upper seven singers move between the upper five voice parts of the piece. We do this to provide variation in timbre, and to work in an element of polychorality to the score. Glad you enjoy it.
@@VOCES8 that requires great skill on the part of everyone in the ensemble. I am partial to listen to Blake because I am a tenor myself. Every single piece VOCES8 performs is so incredibly high quality it is almost unbelievable. Just the name of the ensemble has become synonymous with perfection in the choral community, even here in the western U.S.
This is one of my favourite anthems. It's pretty immaculate, well done! The title means something like 'Joyous are the dead!' The word painting in it is exquisite I'm a massive Schütz fan. One of those wholly underrated composers you come across like Cesar Franck. I'm doing a teaching diploma in singing next year with ABRSM. No one dares accompany me now for the performance one but apparently when the syllabus changes we're allowed recorded accompaniments so I might accompany myself from a recording. I like to play and record as well as a newly apprenticed Certified Audio Engineer myself. I also compose and write also. Are you still in touch with Ben Parry?

This is, simply put, the single most BEAUTIFUL rendition of this masterpiece. Such a satisfying and MARVELOUS performance!!

Like "Ich Bin Eine Rufende Stimme".
Wonderful! This really lifts the spirits in these depressing and nonsensical times. Keep them coming, you have amazing talent.
Thank you for your videos and your beautiful music. Thank you for the concert in Hamburg on 11 November! It was magical!
2:40 I don't think I have heard soprano singing this divine! And what a suspension!!
So perfect, so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤❤
Excellent arranging and balance, light touches on the busy passages, attention to the dynamics in the legato. Love hearing it.

I'm not sure of how this works, but I think they keep getting even better. I'm not sure of how you top amazing, but they do.
I love Heinrich Schütz's music!
Another one of my favourites done so well! Thank you!

Looking forward to seeing you in Düsseldorf in September!
Stunning and I love your tempi.
Great to hear this after a long time. I had to analyze this motet at my high school graduation exams.
Another stunner by Schutz and Voces 8

Would love to hear you perform ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ - Tomás Luis de Victoria
Molly is a treasure--elegant in the serious songs, in the light ones--Miss Personality
This sort of thing leaves me speechless... notice how appropriately they linger on the word "ruhen"
Danke
With the upcoming of advent season the Schütz Magnificat would be on my wish list! :-)
Good balance and blend, the male sound isn't disappearing into the background.

You Can Play Symphony No.3 Of Salier To.
how much i admire their singing and very high level of musicianship, in this piece i think vox luminis does a more profound job with the polyphony
you get better and better, just need to allow the harmony to hit the spot that makes you smile
