V8- nice and loud
V10- spiritual journey
V12- screaming monster
V6- it doesnt sound bad, it's just not right for f1.
I agree with you. It is not bad the V6 but it's not proper for an F1 race car. I remember back to the V10 period when I went to Monza for friday practice. I could hear only one engine when fired up in the box while I was still one mile far from the circuit. Now I can't even hear the cars if they are on the opposite side of the circuit. Very sad thing
@@EnginLurens fr, u could hear the cars from the grandstands at the end of the straight at spa and abit past. Sad to see the cars like this.
V6 Turbo - vacuum cleaner
I think v10 is perfectly balanced, not too much (like v12) and not too little (like v8)
V10- spiritual journey - yesss
The sound of the V10 cars was incredible. There was nothing else like it. I wish it could return to F1.
I am with you !! ;)
Try v12 😁😁 but i agree.. v 10 era is full of memories
@@budisutiekno3181 I think V10 better than V12. At least based upon this video and my personal experience.

When I think about F1 sound, it's this v10 I hear in my mind.
V10 takes the cake by far. Still has grunt but still screams
I think that too !! My favorite one, definitely.
When I heard V10, quickly remember f-2004
V12 screams too but for these track days Ferrari has, the limiters are lower on revs to preserve the engine so we didn't get the full V12 sound we knew
@@SirRobbins rev limiters are always the same. It's up to the owner to choose when to upshift. The V12 was also in the out lap so that's why he doesn't go flat out.
I prefer the V12
The V12s sound amazing, but the V10s have that incredible overtone and its so beautiful!
i like v12 better
I agree
V10 is a sexy beast
Yes, the V10 just has the little bit of "extra" about it.
V10 gives me goose bumps
Rip v10, 19000 rpm! The most shock and beautiful sound of f1 of all times, who bring people to track just to hear it!
They hit well over 20,000rpm before the 19,000rpm limiter kicked in.
I get goosebumps just listening to the V10 on here!

Rolls Royce Merlin, Rolls Royce Griffon, or Daimler Benz DB 605 running wide open. Truly awesome inline aero engines. For radials, nothing beats the Pratt and Whitney R-2800, although the Bristol Centaur and BMW 801 are pretty damned good.
Can we all admit that v10 sounded so orgasmic
почему то V10 звучит как то лампово, ностальгия что ли.
To everyone complaining about the F1 V6s:
Enjoy it, because all you're going to hear from F1 cars in 20 years or so will be tire noise.
that's formula E for you. I enjoy watching formula E, it's an interesting concept, but the sound of the engines is just so good

The V10 just does it for me. It takes me back to when I was a little lad watching F1 on the TV with my dad. My dad is no longer here, but those memories will last forever.
That's a beautiful one, love it. It's beautiful when passion comes from your father and you can share it.
Thank you very much Anthony for this comment, I've loved it !!
@@EnginLurens I was a big Hakkinen fan, he was a big Schumacher fan. He passed in late 2001, just after Schumi won his 4th title... Will forever miss our rivalry on the sofa.
@@anthonygosler7125 ahahah I remember these days but not very well 'cause in 2001 I was 6 years old. But in 1999 I went for the first time to Monza for free practices on friday. It was one of the key moments of my passion for motorsports. I will never forget and I will never stop saying tank you to my father. Those V10s shook my soul 😍
My eyes watering watching this. Exact same memories. My dad passed away in 2017. I am with you..
Sorry for your loss.
V10, that's just heavenly.
The 3.5 liter V10s were the height of F1 sonic glory.
Made in Heaven, since they're fast af too
I love them all but nothing compares to the scream of the V10s.
V10 was the ultimate sound! Seeing them in person was a real blast when i was a child.
V10 the best sound!💪💪💪
Are you a jew
Those downshifts on that v10 are just brutal
You think that's brutal, Red Bull blown diffuser was brutal!
You think thats brutal, try sucking your own ballsack whilst driving a v10
V10 the best. I will never forget the sound I heard on the morning of the 1999 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from my hotel room when the 7am warm up began. The quiet city on a Sunday morning shattered by that incredible shriek which tingled my spine. But nothing with a turbo can ever sound as good. But we should enjoy the moment as the future promises electric F1 cars. Sickening.
Oh my god I loved reading this one !!
These are the stories I want to hear about !! 😍😍
Super thank you for sharing, I appreciated very very much
I would be in North Melbourne and you could hear the v10s from there... Never forget it and that was at least 22 years ago when I was 7.
Cookster: “But nothing with a turbo can ever sound as good”.
CART’s turbo V8 from the 90’s: Allow me to introduce myself.
I miss the v10's. The sound as 20 of these cars came through on the first lap was just amazing.
I know what you mean, when I was at Silverstone in 2004 for my first ever live F1 event and when they all fired up in the pitlane, I thought my skin was going to peel off from the sheer volume and power!! IMMENSE! 😍
The V10 sound it is incomparable. Just amazing. I hope he has come back again.
No
''Oh I've found my vacuum cleaner again. No wait, that's a V6 F1 engine''.
V12 for me, what a beautiful smooth sound from the golden era of Formula 1.
I know most people come for the others but thanks for using clear and recent footage of the turbo hybrids, they sound awesome in person
Thank you very much !! I appreciate a lot 🙏🏻
I admit that I like the V6 Turbo sound, even if it is not very appropriate for an F1. But I love engines so I like more or less all the sound in the world ahahah.
Thanks for your comment, have a good day ;)
This footage still sounds very different from what you'd hear in real life, as I'm sure you know. There's a very distinct turbo whistle you can clearly hear in real life but video doesn't do it justice. Its still nowhere near the old engines in real life but its a nice sound :)
@@yar2000 mmm I partially agree with you. Clearly the sound in the video sounds different from the real one but talking about turbo whistle I do not agree.
There is a whistle, as you can hear a bit in the video while cars are coming with throttle released but they actually do not sound different from that in real life. Maybe you can hear it more clear but not different. And it also depend on the engines, some are more turbo-noiosy, some others less.
Yeah, nice but not as good as old ones !! :)
@@EnginLurens Oh yeah the engine sounds themselves are definitely close to real life in the video (much closer than the TV broadcast, that doesnt even sound like its the same engine), but everytime I've been to a hybrid race I've noticed you can really clearly hear the cars sucking in the air in a very high pitch. Its a noticeable sound and I personally really like it but not a single video I've seen does it justice. It does depend on the engine though I agree, you can hear the difference pretty well.
I visited the Austrian GP in 2019 and the Mclarens made a very weird high-pitched sound which sounded like a lower volume V8 from a distance, but the Renault with the same engine didn't produce that same sound. Its weird. There seems to be more to the sound than just the engine but I don't know enough about the tech behind it all to know what it is.
@@yar2000 oh yes, now I understood what you mean and I agree with you.
I will post some videos sooner or later about Abu Dhabi GP 2019, maybe in these videos you can hear it a little ;)
V10 and V12 is iconic. Instantly recognisable.
They're all iconic sounds, but V6's fit Indycar a lot better, and they still sound absolutely incredible for turbocharged V6's! and they have a nice grunty purr when they startup
The fact that some people think that we have to "save the environment" on these 20 cars that race for 3 days every second week for 7 months makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Meanwhile there is probably like 3000 5L v8 trucks rolling down on the Toronto 401 highway with a single person sitting in each just in this single minute.
You're tight, but most of the innovations we have today were first developed and tested on F1 cars. Forcing them to be eco-friendly directly impacts the passengers cars technology.
you've missed the point entirely, people cry and moan about "fuel saving tech ruins my cars performance" & motorsport funnily enough is competition as a form of advertisement for manufacturers, basically the big brands want to show that you can still get mind bending performance out of smaller displacement engines.
is F1 creating climate change all on its own? no, but as time progresses so does technology and more importantly, rules, good luck trying to get a V10 to the end of a race without refueling.
Everyone says V10 but the V12 does it for me ngl
Lol I am also wondering why. V12 is the actually the one with an undertone. V10 is just a louder v8.
not gonna lie, the v10 roar give me goosebumps all over my body 😳
This v10 sound.. it reminds me of my childhood. Its the most magical and loud screaming sound i ever heart in my life! Watching every race together with my dad. We went to german and belgian GP that time. I still remember i was so impressed about ''that guy in the red marlboro car'' because me as a kid definetly could see how good Michael Schumacher was. I wish i could go back in the time to whitness it again. It will be on my memories forever!
Very beautiful story !! I loved it. Thank you very much for sharing 😊
V6 turbo has by far the best sound. Nothing beats this sound. So iconic.
@@ES-qe1nh V6 turbo has by far the best sound. Nothing beats this sound. So iconic.
V10 sounds like a jet engine! V6 Turbo like my scooter!
Can I have your scooter then?
The sound of the V10 when in drives straight towards you and away, just breath taking... i miss the old times
I remember when V8s came out and people were complaining but now we miss them dearly. 10 years from now when the V6 is gone we'll miss them dearly.
If Luciano Pavarotti were an F1 car, he would have been one in the V10 era. What a magical sound.
V12 of course.
I remember 1992 :
lot of V12 - Honda,Ferrari, Lamborghini,Yamaha -
Some V10 - Renault,Judd
A few V8 Ford Cosworth.
Such a symphony !
I was lucky to have seen quite a few races in person between 2001 - 2007. The sound was just out of this world, you needed earplugs. It felt like these machines were somehow alien and not manmade. I haven't heard the modern F1 cars but somehow I don't want to spoil the memories.
I know very well what you mean !! With old natural aspirated engines the sound was so powerful and loud that, as you said, it seemed to come from another planet.
I remember that when I was in some points very close to the track and cars passed full throttle near me I used to feel my whole body vibrating. Absolutely amazing !!
don't go they are shit
V10 is the winner. Beautiful and classic sound
The V10 sounded like it was ripping time apart. Magnificent.
I'm glad I got to see races in person during the V10 era. Those engines were awe inspiring to hear.
The V12 wins it for me all the time. Now and in history. The world would be a better place with more V12's.❤
V10 sounds crisp as!!! It got my vote!!
Great choice Blake !! 😉
The turbo hybrid era has taken much of the excitement out of F1.

Can't beat the sound of a naturally aspirated V8/10/12 engine.
That V10 top end howl is amazing. V10 engines on the Lexus LFA and Porsche Carrera GT also have a similar sound.
If you hear the v6 since i would say 2019 in real, the most of us were shocked how loud and deep they are
The sound of the new v6 may be nice and „loud“
But when you hear a V8 or V10 F1 car in real life, you literally shit your pants..
For me this is one of the main things about F1s magic
Dear Robert Koch. You said it completely right. You hear a V6 coming nearer as a car approaches, but when it's a V10 or a V12.. Oh my.. You don't hear the cars approaching, you can feeeeel them getting closer.
V10s are a different level and the deep v6 turbo noise comes just when the wastegate opens and thats very rear
At least , i have to say, that the Sound of the big(5litres)V10 and more my absolut Favourite are
Fair play. I saw them in 2014 and 2015 and they were so quiet and crap sounding I haven't been to an F1 race since!
Incredible F1 Engines Sound Evolution 🤩

I think it's more like sound devolution.. lol
V10 brings a tear to the eye... iconic sound. Legendary.

I kinda like the v6 sound with the turbo and hybrid system spin in it, I'm all for change as long as it's good and seeing teams push close to 1000hp out of a 1.6l v6 that can actually last a couple of races is quite incredible to me
I know they aren't the most amazing sounding engines, but the amount of power they squeeze out of those 6 cylinders is pretty incredible. And they don't even need to refuel during a race
the 98t's v6 was a 1.6 liter v6 if im not mistaken, porsche's 919 made somewhere around 750hp on just the four cylinders alone, the thing people dont realize that they dislike about the v6's of todays f1 is that they are extracting so much from the exhaust gases these days that the pitch and tune of the exhaust note has changed dramatically.
remove all the electronic power supplements & those engines would sound pretty similar to the old v6's of the 80s, though they wouldnt be anywhere near as fuel efficient as they are lol..
Agreed, the power and reliability of the new v6 is incredible!
We don’t give a shit about all the stuff your v6 can do, we want a yelling exhaust sound from our formula 1 and the v6 can’t be loud enough so we complain
@@parisienii6522 if you watch F1 for engine sounds and not the race and the engineering that goes into it just stop watching, maybe NASCAR is more your type.
V10, absolutely, no doubt about it!
V10 and V8 was definitely my 2 favorites. The 310B was my favorite Ferrari F1 followed by the F2004
V8: Bach
V10: Beethoven
V12: Rachmaninov
V6: Reggaeton
I say it how it is: I need that rough „gumpy“ V6T sound for low speed passages (like monza T1-T3), that V8 accelleration sound (including pops and bangs in downshifts) from mid rev and the iconic V10 scream in high rev… That would be my dream F1 sound
I saw a race in Hungary in the V10 era and I’ll never forget the feeling of immense power!... I’m glad I got to experience it
Would never get bored listening to the sheer sound from the V10 engine. V6 turbo sound is just... ahh let's not break our mood.
V FUCKING 10 , THE GOOSEBUMPS
V10 wins this hands down. The best all round sound from high to low. Just gorgeous!
I miss the days of V10's & V12's. The sound of todays engines just don't cut it for me. I still watch when I can, but I no longer follow it the way I did during the times of those engines.

The V6 Turbos would sound awesome if they revved higher, but the revs just don't go as high as they did in the V8s and V10s.
Lower Rev means more efficient, more durable. Unfortunately we'll never hear High RPM engines in F1 again
If only they use the 60 degree crank, they would sound like the grand ol' V12
Man... the sound of the V10 speeding away. That clip right here gives me the same goosebumps as my favorite accel, the huayra R
Unpopular Opinon: F6 turbo doesnt sound bad at all, but it still is bad compared to old engine sounds, but is still amazing
I think the V8 is very underrated, the V10 can be seen as overrated, and the V12 doesn’t get enough credit. I love the V12 because it has that deep high pitched noise that can never get annoying at top speed, as the V8 and V10 only sounds best at upshifts. I also think with the V8 and the blowing diffuser at its best is really nice as well. I don’t know if it comes with the engine or the car design but that is great.
V12 is my personal favorite
V6........
Doesn’t fit the car
Still giving me goosebumps hearing those engines roar not like what we have nowadays. Still fast but lack of iconic sounds. Used to be my no.1 favorite sport to watch
F1 started the V6 turbo era with a “bait & switch” tactic, in all promotional events in the US had the V10’s to draw in the crowds. The V10’s screamed in the city streets, then the first timers got the V6 turbos on the track. Oh the disappointment..
Heh yea. People got catfished en masse.
For me v8 is the best. Being in the drs zone in Montreal with them flying by in the v8 period. Ears hurt so bad but it felt so good. Havent watched f1 in years. Not the same
V10 is the best sounding engine of all time enough ...
The V12 comes close but the V10 sound, is the sound of sweet mechanical violence, that the other engines can't match. That V10 sound gives me goosebumps every time. 😍 0:27
I think it comes because it’s a bit out of step. Engines with multiples of four cylinders sound very smooth, as they slot neatly into the stroke cycle. The V10 can’t do that, so it sounds like it’s slightly off-beat and that’s what gives it that almost angry sound. I have to agree, as sweet as the V12 sounds, the V10 is something else
V8-Can never go wrong
V10-God's note
V12-Less of Gods note, but close
V6-Sneezing fit
Tears. About an era that will never return
V10 sounds the best because of its flat crank configuration. V8 and V12 are nice and loud. As for the V6 turbo, well it doesn't sound bad in itself, it's just that we all prefer screaming 18k RPM engines for a F1 car.
v8 is flat crank too
V8 - pretty average
V10 - very nice
V12 - perfect ( even with reduced rpm)
V6 turbo - shite
1. V10 Sounds very smooth, and very high revs, mixed with a hig-ptiched melody.
2. V8, highpitched, sounds like a Flat Plane.
3. V12, Sounds a bit similar to the V10, but not as smooth, and doesn't rev very high.
4. V6 sounds like a swarm of bugs, but isn't terrible.
two of the best sounding engines in motorsports... the v10 f1 era, and the early 2000's NASCAR superspeedway engines. they both screamed power
V8, V10, V12 😇😇🤗🤗🙂🙂🙂

Ahahah same thought
...what?
V6 turbos from the 80s we’re good though. But modern v6 turbo-hybrids have no personality.
They should have done I6 Turbo, would have sounded way better than the V6 turbo.
My favourites are definitely V10 & V6 Turbo
V10 bc it sounds amazing
V6 Turbo since it is more comfortable for me to listen to those for a longer time and because I am most used to them haha
Those v10s just hit different.
The only thing for certain is that they all sound better than my one litre Ford Ka.
V10 are amazing. Those screaming engines...
Fortunately I got to hear the final year of the V10 at Indianapolis. It made my hair stand up and there is nothing like that sound. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.
I could fall asleep to these! Music to my ears
The V10 is the definition of reeeee
I remember back in V8 era, you got ear protection included if you bought a ticket.
I was there for this too. On the same bleachers after hopping the fence. What a beautiful day
Really?? Nice !
Yes it was absolutely amazing 😍
I love the turbo whistle in real life. Recordings don't make justice to them.
Three things that would make Fi great again. V-10 engines. Grooved tires made by competing tire companies. Refueling during the race.
In all fairness the V10 recording was done from further away and still sounded the BEST!
V 10, V 12 Oh my God! I want this Formula back!
