  • ‪@kennethpenrose9975‬ The film starts in Bird's Folly, Halesworth with a train passing by and then there is a shot of Halesworth from the air and this shows where the old Southwold Railway diverged from the main line. The film then follows the trackbed through Bird's Folly, Halesworth, Mells, Wenhaston and finally concludes at the former Coal Shed at Blythburgh.Station.

How is the locomotive fund going?

How many groups are there restoring this line? Bit puzzled I seem to see posts to a couple of groups all doing different things.

Two. We are based in Halesworth and concentrate our efforts on restoring the Halesworth end of the line, whereas the other group is based in
Southwold and their efforts are concentrated there.
We became involved with and have funded the preservation and restoration of the Blythburgh Coal Shed because after 140 years of weathering its condition had deteriorated to the extent that there was a very grave danger that it would have collapsed without our intervention.

@@kennethpenrose9975 oh right I see, that clears that up. So are the two groups working jointly to open the line meet in the middle sort of thing. I had read on your page about the coal shed. Both groups seem to be putting a lot of effort in to aspects of the line

kinetic .rail Yes hopefully a golden spike ceremony where both groups’ meet in the middle of the line will happen one day.

Can you walk from Blythburgh towards Halesworth?

You can walk a footpath some distance from Blythburgn past our Goods Shed but eventually you come to a stop, although the trackbed proceeds straight ahead, it is overgrown and inaccessible. At that point you have to turn left on to the road at Wenhaston. Once in Wenhaston, some way past the Southwold Railway Trust’s land in Blyford Lane (you have to be a member of SRT to walk their short section of trackbed) on the left hand side of the lane there is a public footpath which eventually takes you to Halesworth. Most of of it is not on the trackbed and it is a very long walk but it has the reward of some pretty countryside along the way.
