Ok, now do that with the engine in the car an there's 2 inches of clearance, without jacking up the engine and removing the mount.
Ha I have 1/2" clearance on mine can't even get an offset wrench in there

An Alan key works better. Just find the one that fits the snuggest and the tensioner will not start to slip. Or even bend the cheap tool. Alan keys are harder steel. I was helping a fellow mechanic out one day he forgot the belt routing and I had just finished one on the same engine different car not 5 minutes prior to him and asked if I could slip the belt on for him. No problem little buddy. As I was doing this his tiny tool…oops his soft tiny tool lol slipped out of the hole ( don’t you just hate when that happens! Lol!! ) and hit me in the face near my eye. As it was I was wearing my prescription safety glasses. Thought you were going to catch me on that one didn’t you? So lesson learned and class is dismissed 😊

You're fortunate to have a car with front space, some have no space it can be a nightmare just changing that belt.
Your right i got lots of room, this D.i.y. was a process of a Engine swap better to chance the belt while i got tons of area to work

This is why I love my old truck "1997 ford ranger 2.3" so easy to work on and reliable and when things do break its always in the 30-200 dollar range and can be replaced easily in an afternoon in my driveway with basic hand tools and a floor jack. My favorite vehicle so far one day I'll make it a race truck for being so good to me 😊

I would say, depends on what car you have. Some cars have very little space to replace the belt, but of course anyone can do it.. Just be patient, do your research about what tools you need and be careful,, you don’t want your tool loose contact with the tensioner while you are placing the belt,, you might hurt your hands bad.

Shit thats alot.. your doing this job your self then? If so better to take the Radiator fan out before taking and install the belt

No, por la posición del filtro y en la forma que esta instalado no hace derrames, si vez bien el motor luce muy limpio en esa zona casi es como la toyota tacoma!

This looks like a TSI used in numerous VAG cars. Depending on which the belt might not be this accessible without either going in through the wheel well or you might be able to remove some mounted components to get at it from above.

Great when you have so much room to do this. On a east west mounted engine often is not enough room for hands or tools. Find that frustrating.... 😂.

Thats true it creates more work thats why qoute your customer extra $ to get this job done. You need to remove whats on the way in front of you, to get to the price thats how it work ( it depends on the job) like legos start from the top and work your way down without tipping over.

Your the mechanic you make the best decision to make this job easy for you to remove and replace the faulty part.
Some people doing some shortcut, half way job to make it work but that when they start damage, cutting or wreaking parts.

Nasty music. Change belt does not need music.
No Biggie.. You can turn-off the volume if you don't like it.
What happens if you put the belt in a worng position?
If it did not sit on all the teeth it will spoil the belt
If putting wrong position could cause belt tension problem....so it's best to place it the original position
Usually if I forgot how I put the belt...I don't need books or some sort....just Google it then you know how the serpentine belt position

Not sure the name, Its just a metal piece laying around the shop. Best tool to use for this is a narrow skinny 3 to 4 Inches long bolt or a nail

Drive belt tensener...
Can you spray wd40 on the pivot area of the tensioner pulley? I noticed mine when i initially turn on the ac, a slight sound of a knocking noise occurs. But when my engine is warmed up. There's no knocking sound.

If you've never changed one of those before you obviously have not if that conflicts while you had his fingers in those who's very well easily lose a finger don't ever become a mechanic you'll probably become a victim of leaving a jack without a safety and having the car fall on you

Not all tensioner have this style pin hole.
@@jfGarage4k thanks , I recently used an old set of mini bike handle bars to put over the end of the 3/8drive ratchet for more leverage and locked it in place by using a tie down strap from the handle bars to the front end hardware behind a front tire lol
Worked but the pin hole would be nicer and this one didn’t have one that I could see so 🤷🏻♂️it should be standard on those dang tensioners 🫠
