Not clothing but I made a rule for myself that I *have* to make most cosmetic purchases in person. If it's not a replacement or something I can't test in store anyway (like mascara or brow gel), it's going on the wishlist and I'll look at it if I end up in a brick and mortar sephora/ulta. I realized when I took myself on a little birthday shopping trip to sephora earlier this year how many colors and formulas weren't what I though they were in person and how different my picks are when I'm in store. It makes compulsive shopping way easier to avoid when it takes more effort than adding to cart.
I try to make a small wishlist of about 10 items for every couple of seasons (fall-winter and spring-summer). That's how I don't get overwhelmed. I rarely find all of them, so I move those I haven't found yet to the list of next spring or fall and just add fewer new items.
That's so cool I'll def try that because I really struggle with making a long wish list and not being able to feel satisfied with anything.
this video has actually made me grateful to live in a third world country where international shipping is not a possibility because i see all these beautiful things on pinterest/ig/etc and i actually dont have to exercise self-restraint at all because they are literally impossible to obtain for me lol

I have a long wishlist - but it’s extended out four years and the higher the price the longer it sits on the list, especially if it’s not a trend or will definitely be available secondhand down the line. It’s helped so much
what makes me want to buy from tiktok is watching the thrift hauls!!! thats not my preferred content on youtube but something about the short form content makes it a lot easier to get sucked in. i'll screenshot and try to find it online and its terrible. cant tell you how many screenshots i have that i dont even remember the item in the slightest

I rarely comment on your videos but I've been a silent watcher since 2021 and im 16 years old teenage girl. I hate to accept it but social media and OCD has made it worse to not want to buy stuff every other day in order to have a perfect wardrobe to satisfy my perfectionism. I have noticed that if I absolutely like a clothing piece that I have bought I really lose the spark even after wearing it millions of times but I got to say you are the best mindful fashion youtuber out there even though I don't have the same style as you I absolutely love your content....
I currently don't have TikTok, but the people I followed that were fashion-related were so far outside the realm of anything I'd realistically wear--like Wisdom Kaye or Hannah Ruth Zander or Sara Camposarcone. It was inspiring to see their fashion, but I had no desire to copy them.
6:26 I can definitely relate to this and understand 😭😭 because with family it doesn’t really matter how you look it’s your family and for you especially you have a baby and you never know what’s gonna happen so it wouldn’t make sense to wear your best show off outfit whereas if you’re walking in downtown and going shopping you wear your best outfit so you could feel like those main characters in coming of age/ rom-com movies

this is so real I had wishlists with items that took me 2 years to find since I put it on the list. And I know I really still want it after all that time. Then I also had items I realized that I didn't like that much and removed them from the list. It's so satisfying to not have bought cause the buyer's remorse would just devastate me haha especially if it's on the pricier side.

ugh yes so honestly, I had a massive wish list but I'm doing a no/barely buy year and so I have ONE THING on my direct wishlist, the Salomon Mary Jeanne's in grey, and they've been sold out for a while so.... even if I really really want them, I just literally can't buy them :')... which is good for my bank but sad for my heart haha.

As I was literally going through an endless online wishlist lol, I came across your video. I'm so glad I came across your channel and this video specifically! What you said is so real and relatable plus I needed these reminders to keep things in perspective. Deep down i know i dont need to have everything just because it's cute or i can "see myself" in it... especially bc the funds arent funding! Lol... And trying to have all the looks is just unrealistic in general bc there's always a new, more interesting look coming...the fashion industry makes sure of it...

Another life hack I full heartedly stand by is, for example: I want a (Louis Vuitton crossbody messenger type bag) - Idk the exact name - question myself: 1. Do I really need a messenger bag rn? 2. How will this bag fit into my lifestyle atm? 3. Does it have to be from Louis Vuitton? 4. If it weren’t from LV would I still buy it? 5. Is it the brand or the actual piece (size)? 6. Can I afford it? 7. Realistically what will the ROI be? 8. How many hours will I have to work to get tht bag irl? 9. Is it really worth it? 10. Compare/consider alternative styles
Let’s be honest here, 99.9% of the population and even your watchers would be living in their comfiest pjs if they were the last person on earth and no one will see their outfits. Everyone is dressing so other people will see it, even if it’s just people passing by. It’s the way you feel good wearing a cute outfit because you unconsciously think other people will find you cute or fashionable or even “unique” like how Laini loves to portray herself. Which is not a bad thing!

I love all your tips and I definitely put away my seasonal clothing.. But what if I actually have a shopping-list because I really need those pieces because I've been wearing the same things for 3 years and actually dont have enough clothing (like one pair of shorts, one skirt, one dress etc.) but I can't seem to find the right pieces? Like I go looking, I order things, I compare on a ton of websites but nothing is just right (or has the right price tag lol) and therefore the list doesn't shrink and its always on my mind?
