Wow what a lovely interview. Simon is every bit as genuine as I had imagined as a starry eyed rock fan when I first fell in love with Free. God bless him, for managing to hold onto his sanity through a career spanning such heights and lows, and coming through it all helping our youngsters. 🙏❤️
What a fantastic interview!! I've never heard an interview with Simon Kirke. I've been well aware of him and his playing and think quite highly of his playing. It's great to see that the personality measures up to the talent! And what a well sculpted set of questions and delivery. Great to see an interviewer who listens and adapts. Too many people ask a question and can't wait to hear their own voice again. Thanks for presenting this
My goodness, he has got a great memory. Considering they were probably as high as kites back then. Loved this guy's drumming, very strong drummer. Very modes guy. Stevens was quite a character but was known for his extensive knowledge of music.
I’ve only come to know and appreciate Free over the last few months, and without doubt each of the four members is an absolute master craftsmen musician, all superb talents.
Simon Kirke is such a hero. Not just a "musical" hero. What a great guy he is. (Hey Grand kids of Simon, be proud, be very proud ). Watched this riveted. And you sire, well this has gotta be on of the greatest interview on YT. Lotsa love from India, ya' both
Another great interview with fantastic questions that make an interesting person shine. Simon wasn't just in the two best best bands in the world but he played with such a wide range of rock royalty. Excellent! Thanks Craig.
Craig, I really like the deep questions you ask. I heard the shark story when I played in a band in Seattle back in the early ‘80’s. Our bass player told me about it and I thought he was lying. Nice to hear Simon tell it.
Thank you Lord above, and Mr. Garber! Alright now! (Insert rimshot) Simon was one of my "northern stars", whom made me want to pick up the sticks, when I was 10. (In 1978) At age 12 I had my first band. Still playing, though I'm forever finding myself looking for my Bad company. (Puns intended.. sorry, just couldn't help it) Free is still my top favorite band! Btw. Kirke is church in Danish as well! Cheers from Copenhell.
Interesting interview, I bought the Tons of Sobs album back when it was released and thought it was a great album, not sure why it didn't seem to sell well. Sent me on the road to becoming a Free fan but sadly didn't get to see them play live
The kit "sound" on the first Bad Company is amazing , IMO, - it sounds like he's playing drums in the same room you're in , as you listen. Kirke seems like hardly ages .......

Awesome man, I love and really relate to that sound on tons of sobs since i’m in the same age group that they were at the time. It’s an awesome record to listen to and find riffs to use. I love Kossof’s playing.
Saw Simon Kirke with Ringo's All Stars in 2000 ..if I remember right, Simon is a pretty decent singer as well, he was singing a couple Bad Co. & Free songs at the show...
I grew up in Dunstable Bedfordshire. I remember when the M1 was first opened in 1959. My father took us for a spin on the new section. Plenty cars doing the ton. There was no actual speed limit on the new motorway when it first opened. Love the band by the way. I love kossoff's guitar and tone too.
I absolutely LOVED this interview, so interesting and informative. Simon and the other band members (including Free) are my heroes. The music they created and produced is timeless, and clearly shows that they were ahead of their time. Well done man, you have gained a subscriber!
Another great interview. That “memorable” Madison Square Garden gig with Bad Company was not the old Garden but the current arena. Blind Faith and Delaney and Bonnie and Free. I was there and vaguely remember Delaney and Bonnie snd of course, Blind Faith. Sadly I have no recollection of Free. I do believe Simon confused and earlier gig with Free at the old MSG which was about fifteen blocks north.

Shit, he is just like me aside of the fact that he was in the right place and around the right people. I work in live entertainment and he is a performer. Nobody that can do anything with them. lol My Mother took me to a Buck Owens concert at the wheeling jamboree which was a live show broadcast on 50 k watts every saturday night and i was hooked on guitar after that. she also took me to see Badfinger in the same theatre. I played in bands from 77 until the late 90's and then got much further into production work because it paid so much more money than a club gig.
