Yum. I have no idea where I would find ube extract in Georgia! But I recall the deliciousness of Filipino food in San Diego when I was a Navy kid. Lots of Filipino Navy kids were my friends in the 1960s.
My girlfriend is Filipino, I want to make her something special for her visit to me in Colorado USA (next year most likely!!) I'm really not used to cooking do you know any simple but common dishes I could make her so she feels at home?
Literally the best feeling. I made really good spinach dip one day and brought it to a party. It was demolished, the only thing there that everyone fought over. I love feeding people good food!
There was no better compliment than my mother in law (who is very strict with herself about calorie consumption and exercise) throwing caution to the wind when I made a dish that took all day. She didn't count calories that night, sis congratulated me on such an achievement.
I'm from Spain and here we have another traditional bread called Ensaimada, I was curious if your ensaymada was somehow similar to what I know. And it is, The og recipe is the one I know from Spain, Mallorca more specifically, and it derived into your ensaymadas during the time when Filipines were a spanish colony... the more you know
It's such a love declaration when family fight over your food 🥰 I get love envy when watching you and Doug's wonderful, beautiful, loving, supportive families, but in a good way, where I bless and am happy for you. I just wish I had that too.
@@ellur15its like a bread but instead of regular flour they use rice flour. the bread its self is surpricingly light and has a sweeter side on it but and for the topping they use magarine, salted duck egg (optional but highly recomemded) sugar and coconut shreds.
I'm sorry, but you scolding your dad, saying "slow down 😠" is so damn funny 😂 he was scarfing that down like it was the last he'd ever eat. Gotta try this myself, now i'm really interested how it tastes
Jeanell, thank you so much for posting this. Brings back memories with coworkers at potlucks. That who gets the middle just made me laugh and cry at the same time. Those were such good times. I miss my old coworkers. We worked hard but played even harder.
I once was looking for ice cream and I found a truck but it was a Philippine food truck and I decided to try it. The lady selling the food recommended me the same dish you make and I was really sceptical about it. I tried it and absolutely loved it!!! 💯 recommend
It's an enriched dough. Some versions will have more butter spread on it before it's shaped, kinda like laminated dough without the multiple turns. After baking brush with butter and dip in sugar. Top with grated cheddar or edam.
Savoury cheese and frosting seems like such a weird combination to me, interesting to see other cultures taste profiles. Must taste good though if the fam is fighting over it like that
For the ensaimadas is more common in a "snail shell" or "cinnamon roll" form but you can find them in this way too. They are from Spain from on an island named Mallorca ☺️
We know where they’re from, the Philippines was colonized by Spain… 🙄 and you don’t get to tell us how we use the things that the colonizers gave us. It doesn’t matter what shape or form the bread is in, as long as it’s Filipino.
@@grouchostarx531 chill, nobody told anyone how to make it. They just commented on how it's more common for it to have a different shape. Also, not everyone knows the origin of it, there's nothing wrong with saying it's from Spain. It's not our fault that our ancestors did messed up shit
@@grouchostarx531it’s a Spain dish, you said it yourself, both cultures have adopted and changed the recipes and that’s fine.
