It's week 2 of his rookie year, I feel I'm taking crazy pills with the amount of people claiming the sky is falling when the team is 1-1, we lost the game we expected to lose by only 6, and his first half numbers were fine. I had a Coach whose philosophy was, if you can gain at least 3.35 yards per play that's all you need to win. Sounds crazy, but we were very successful under him. The last season I played under him we only lost 2 games, one in the regular season, and the second was the semi-final game of our state's championship. The 49ers in week one reminded me of our games. Drives that wore down the defense and chewed up the clock. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. That's the kind of thinking, I believe some of the teams who are struggling on offense, especially at the QB position, need to adopt. Stop trying to play, "highlight reel" football, and stick with the basics. Get down, get dirty, come off the ball hard, and smash the defense in the mouth every time you snap the ball.

    • @thevoxdeus
      @thevoxdeus 3 дня назад

People also have a fundamental misunderstanding of what a good challenge is. A challenge that results in 3 more yards of field position on 1st and 10 is a bad challenge even if you win it 90% of the time. A challenge that results in a touchdown or turnover 20% of the time is a good challenge, because in a league where most games are won or lost by a single score, that's a 20% chance to change the outcome of the game.
This is why touchdowns and turnovers are automatically reviewed, because otherwise coaches would just blow their challenges on the first two opposing turnovers or touchdowns. If you have a chance, even a small chance to create a TD or turnover, it's worth risking a timeout once per half to try it.

Pretty patient probably which is what the guys seem to say. Nice video with a lot of well reasoned reporting. The line play is awful. There's a new starting center, the right guard (Davis) doesn't like to practice and on game day it shows, and the returning starters are playing the worst of their careers. Teven Jenkins (left guard) said after the game he thought t was more on the coaches fault and the line play was pretty good. Two things can be true... bad play call AND bad line play. All that makes Caleb, who'd probably still be making mistakes under the best circumstances, look even worse.

As a Bears fan, I did buy into the hype all offseason and was pretty high following Hard Knocks. Product on the field hasn't come close to living up to a fraction of any of those expectations but good lord, it's two weeks. The O-line was clearly the issue against the Strouds, but they've got two exceptional edge rushers and once the run was shown to fail they had their ears pinned back all night. Bears will be fine, probably miss the playoffs but will still be around 8-9 wins, and can focus on rebuilding the O-line next offseason.

CW had a better game this week, everyone is so focused on wins and looking to see him either make a big play or screw up. That's not how this works, he's got to develop. CW is doing things in the pocket right now that most rookies QB's can't, he's calling out protections, he's audibling at the line. His footwork is good most of the time(not great), he's making the right reads and this is his second week. The o line isn't good but after re-watching the game, they did give him opportunities that either CW didn't take advantage of or the receivers didn't. He's also trying to play in the structure of the play, he's not playing hero ball (like a lot of people assumed he would), he's making rookie mistakes. Overall, I'm very excited to see how he improved from week 1 and I can't wait to see how he'll improve to week 3. I really hate all these over reactions, it's insane how many people are acting like the sky is falling and the season is over and CW is a bust. He isn't a bust and once CW and his receivers start connecting, watch out, it's going to be an exciting ride.

As brutal as it was for Caleb, he still had some things to recommend him. He got the crap beat out of him but got up and kept playing every time. He never pointed fingers at teammates or blamed anyone else in the press conference. He did show a skill set and a couple of scrambles that showed some flash and potential where he was able to get out of jail and get throws off. He just wasn't hitting the side of a barn with the throws. If he can fix his accuracy with throwing on he run, he could be Favre like. He has a cannon, he has legs, he has size and toughness, he has leadership ability. It's like he has a collection of abilities but no *game* yet. I can see him working his way through it and learning to be a dominant quarterback. He says Rodgers is his model, but I think he's really more like Favre. Rodgers hits his targets.

They drafted him.#1 when they could have easily traded that pick for 6-10 day 1 and day 2 picks. That is the *defining* decision of the Ryan Poles / Matt Eberflus regime. They literally chose to draft this QB rather than to build the best non-QB roster in the NFL.
So Caleb is the guy. Period. There is no plan B, and Caleb is the guy they still expect to be great. There is no discussion about when the Bears should give up on Caleb, because the answer is "never."
The discussion is: if this does not work out, at what point is Ryan Poles fired? Because THAT is the soonest that the Bears will / should move on from Williams.
Frankly, this is a stupid topic anyway. It's game 2 of Williams' rookie season. He has had two rough games, but he played better in game 2 than in game 1, under more difficult circumstances. The Bears are 1-1 in a season where 10 wins was considered to be a very positive result and 8-9 wins was the general consensus.
The only people who are putting pressure on Caleb at this point are either football-dumb, or maybe Caleb Williams himself.
One more thing: Shelton has either been on roller-skates or isn't even blocking anyone on 80% of Bears passing plays. I don't care if it's Tom Brady or Pat Mahomes, NO QB will be successful when they have a giant athlete in their face before they can even finisg a 3-step drop.
People made excuses for the Bears interior line after the Titans game because the Titans have Simmons and Sweat inside, but we can see pretty clearly that it doesn't matter who the opponent is, because Coleman Shelton can't block them. Can't run-block them, can't pass-block them, he just can't block in the NFL.

Bears already blew it. Shouldve kept Caleb on the bench for the entire season but now its too late to put that cat in the bag. He'll spend his entire rookie year running for his life which will stunt most of his growth. Maybe some other team can fix him in 2-3 years once the bears move on to their next victim.

  • @MFBloosh

As a fanbase, of course we need to give Caleb more than just a few games before we start panicking. But we are also allowed to wonder what would've happened if we kept Fields too, who seemed to have finally found a good rhythm in the 2nd half of last season with the team going 5-3 (should've been 7-1) over that stretch after just losing 14 games in a row where the defense gave up 31 PPG during that streak. So yeah, I wonder how the team would look with this defense, which Justin didn't have his last 2 seasons with us besides the 2nd half of last season, as well as all of these weapons on offense, already having a good chemistry with Moore and Kmet. If it were any other situation, it would be a lot easier for us, but the Bears went all in on this offense and chose to put it in the hands of a rookie QB. Either way, this next 6-7 games are an easy stretch for us, playing teams like the Commanders/Panthers/Jaguars etc, so it's a perfect time for the offense to finally click. And yes, the O Line needs to play better too, which was also a problem when Justin was here. Shane Waldron has been god awful too, so again, not much use having all of these weapons if you can't utilize them with good play calling. It's just a mess overall, but I feel like things will get better, even though it's a low bar so far. Lol.

  • @notfallingforthat13

It was way more suprising he was that over hyped. Compared to other QBs that were touted as the next best QB ever he didn't seem that impressive. Add in the fact 2/3 of first round QBs flop this is expected. The media just needs sensational over the top talking points to keep intrest. The truth that this QB class just wasn't that exciting doesn't generate clicks.
