Gave up on Baker way too quickly should have force him to get the surgery and have him sign a one year contract to try again next year and show his quality.
Baker was a lovable underdog. He had issues personality wise and wasn’t a perfect player but the way they dumped him was plain dumb. He was the kind of guy that fans rally behind. I’m a Vikings fan and I love the guy he has this underdog vibe mixed with the unlikely success story and a gritty personality. Funnily enough that’s what the Browns were supposed to be the year Baker lead them to the best year in over two decades.

So the comparison between Mayfield and Watson will exist so long as the two players are active. Although who knows how much longer Watson will even be in the league at this point. As a Steeler fan who grew up near Cleveland, I only root against the Browns twice a year … and the Browns drive me crazy. I thought Johnny Football was bad but at least he was on a rookie contract. The desperation and magnitude of the Watson trade was baffling. Baker played most of a season with a shoulder injury, went to the playoffs, beat the Steelers, and gave KC a game … and they got rid of him. Baker hadn’t peaked yet and he wanted to be here. Watson had to be lured here with a fully guaranteed contract … and the draft picks. And last year, it was easy to catch Flacco Fever … and he’s gone. As a Browns fan said in his obit … “I want my pall bearers to be Browns players so they can let me down one more time.” Maybe he should have requested the Browns front office.

Lets say (knock on wood) the Browns go on a miracle run. They have actually done it, and are in the Superbowl. The perennial losers and underdogs get a chance at their first ever Lombardi.

Back when the Browns when 0-16, they weren't perennial losers, because they came back the next year, ready to try again. When they got Baker Mayfield, the team was winning, won a playoff birth against rival Steelers, and everyone was rooting for them.
One mediocre season later, management threw him out like a broken toy, and even Baker wanted out, so you know that he wasn't happy with them. The Browns fought tooth and nail for Watson, 200 MILLION DOLLARS, guaranteed! A QB that hadn't played in two years because of injury and allegations of being a predator, allegations that still pop up! They were given another chance with Joe Flacco's miracle run, but dropped him to the Colts because he lost a playoff game they should've been lucky to have.

Problem was that the Baker thing was kinda tied into letting Gregg Williams go and elevating Freddie Kitchens to take his place. They had a winning combo going with Williams/Kitchens/Mayfield and they moved (or removed) two of the three pieces. It was like buying a used car, discovering it's running pretty well, and then deciding to start pulling parts and switching them all over the place for no good reason.

They do as they're told or find a new job or instability shows.
Owners sign off on risky deals made by GM's, but not the other way around, and that's why I said the only fault you can assign them is trying to make it work.

Funniest part to me is the Browns were in a fantastic spot. They made a playoff run with Baker where they beat the Steelers and played the Chiefs really close on the road. All they had to do was stay the course. The Odell Beckham signing was the beginning of the end. Then Baker had a season plagued with injuries and they blew it all up.
But if you swapped Watson for Baker and 3 first round picks tomorrow (which is what they had originally), I think they’re a legit contender.

And the DW Lawyer had strong evidence this could be extortion. Why did they ask him for sessions, dates, brag about felatio, after the alleged incidents. Then you have 33 TDs vs 17TDs. 4800 yards vs 3000. 112 passer rating vs 84.
Did it blow up in their face? Yep. And as slimy as Buzbee appears to be, they should have talked to him. They only talked to DW’s lawyer.

If it affects the 2024 or 2025 season, then they don't have an out. This was left out of the most recent contract edit because 2023 is over. Basically, it looks like the Browns are on the hook regardless because it's not a new crime.

My friend actually called me yesterday and apologized to me. Since day one of this trade, I looked at his gameplay and was never a fan. His monster statistical season, I think they won 4 or 5 games. When I watched DW game, before he came to the Browns, he looked complacent and nonchalant when he played. He never looked like he was very interested in playing a full game, if a butterfly flew onto the field he would chase it with his arms to his side giggling wildly, yes I am saying he reminds me of a re t rdd person.
