Professional opportunity is a responsibility | Liv Moore | TEDxReno

  • Professional opportunity is overwhelmingly treated as an individual experience, as something to seek and to receive. We rarely frame opportunity as something to give. Professional opportunity should have a chain effect, meaning what we are given, we give forward. If we started to collectively give more often, it would change the community of new professionals. Giving in any form builds experiences, generates new ideas, and lifts up those who are coming next.
A 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 recipient, Liv Moore currently works in the entertainment industry engineering awards campaign strategy for documentaries and music projects. In the past 4 years, she and her team’s campaigns have garnered 4 Oscars, 5 Grammys and more than 10 Emmys. In 2022, Moore received the University of Nevada, Reno’s Outstanding Recent Graduate Award. Passionate about the power of education, Moore established and funded the Liv Moore Scholarship for Strategic Communications at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2021. Moore is a professional mentor for the Public Relations Student Society of America and frequently meets with additional students for mentoring opportunities. She is currently pursuing her Executive Masters of Business Administration and received her Bachelor’s degree from the Reynolds School of Journalism. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

4:21 I agree that it's so vital to have a mentor in your career. This is why this Ted Talk is so important! I am so focused on getting a better career right now, that I would almost forget to give. You can always give! Even if it's networking for someone else, or asking if they are looking for something you have. Awesome talk, really enjoyed it.

That's nice that you're able to have your boss allow you to train interns. This is usually not possible when you're expected to be productive for over 100% of your time in industries where interns only become net productive after a year. But I'll always try to influence a company to not lose good interns.

Thank you Liv Moore for your Great message to the World.
There is a Tendency to focus on the Family and not to bother about others.
If Everyone at any Level if they become MENTOR to somebody unconditionally and without expecting any Money then this world will have a Lot more Confident Fresh Graduates who can take on the world even though they are a so called Fresher or Intern.
    Thank you Liv.
    "Live More"

Onde moramos é tão isolado que tem ursos e onças e para chegar a nossa casa um verdadeiro rally, a base aqui é a troca porque estamos distantes 8h do primeiro lugar para comprar qualquer coisa!

Hot take but, she got hired because she is beautiful. Think about it like this. If a company has 200 people to choose from, for a single role. Maybe 100 of them, are decently qualified. But you need to only choose one. How do they just get one? Well if 50% are men and 50% are women It could be easy as choosing the most good looking from both columns and then choosing the nicest personality. Or maybe there are more factors. Look at a company's group photo, you can tell if they choose by who their employees look and maybe there is a margin of error in that judgement or not.

This may be true in many sectors of job seeking but if you can hear how well she speaks, how knowledgeable she is, and how clearly she is giving back to her community - maybe it’s not all just because of how she looks.
