Cosmo's going to be a female in GoTG Vol. 3. James Gunn made Cosmo a female as a reference to Laika, who was a real life "space dog" in the Soviet Space program.
@@rocketrace490 But Jame's Gunn version also deviates from the part where Cosmo is actually a space dog from Russia. The accent of this version highlights that specifically.

Only in the MCU movie. Cosmo is male in the comics. Also comics is based on Laika; the Soviet space dog. James Gunn just correctly gender swapped Cosmo to female for the MCU.
Cosmo is male in all iterations, in the MCU Cosmo is female as an homage to Laika, the dog who was launched to space by the Soviet Union in the late 50s
