Rob G I don't think you can play that economically without keeping your fingers close to the board...it's about playing with the least amount of tension...he says in another video
exactly. i play guitar, and i always tried to go in this direction, in the matters of finger tension and positioning (for example, the fact that the pinky is never contracted), and i asure that it helps, but this level of cleaness and clarity is unmatched. I think this comes with years of experience and playing
I think Shawn Lane still holds that candle, though he's not with us anymore, he is still in our world. I'm not knocking Rick, he is fucking rippin'. But Shawn Lane is still the high water mark for me.
I noticed the effect in your liquid smooth legato vid the other day. There's something about your muted legato that really makes it stand out. I can't even think of a word to describe how interesting it sounds. It's very profound. After giving it another listen, I think the word I am looking for is ethereal. It's otherworldly, and heavenly. Kind of sounds like a harp being played in a muted fashion, and really fast. It's beautiful, really. It sounds like perfect bliss and freedom. You have a wonderful gift. Thank you for sharing it with us. Oh, wait a minute. I know what it reminds me of. It sounds like a Japanese instrument, and this legato piece did, indeed, sound very much like what you would hear in Japanese music. The instrument I am referring to is a Shamisen. A 3 stringed guitar like instrument used in Japanese music. That's what your legato sounds like to me.
I can imagine what it is like to write something as grand as a whole book, and that is why I would never undertake such a task. How does one even begin to fill an entire book with such wonderful detail and coherent story as to make it appreciable, and meaningful in it's entirety. While I do have many ideas for books, books that would add something wonderful to the world we live in, I will never choose to bring them about. While I tend to think in vast detail, it is extremely difficult for me to find the words to use in expressing that detail, Then, one little bit expands into a whole tree of other bits and those bits expand out into other bits of detail to the point it's so overwhelming I have to let it all go. So, no I am not writing a book of any kind. It would be impossible for me to do so. Here, I just sought to express my genuine appreciation of Ricks amazing gifts, and to share my thoughts concerning them. I do have two questions for you. Upon listening to this piece, does it sound to you like something you might here in Japanese music? And, what instrument is that you are playing? Ricks playing, also, sounds like something you'd hear played on a Cambodian pin instrument, only much faster.
I've been watching some of your videos and would like to say thank you for inspiring me on practcing my guitar. Im not really into practice, i rather play to have fun over practcing, but you really inspiread me on getting better. THANK YOU! :D
Hey Rick do not put you under pressure sometimes you have to take breaks to simply do something else. You are one of the best guitarists in the World !! cheers
Can you please make a vid on this? I know it should probably be straight forward to learn but when I palm mute it it sounds muffled and stops the notes ringing.
It sounds cool but Rick uses this way too much in my opinion. When I listen to him play I'm just waiting for him to play a palm muted section, it's kinda predictable

I declare that Rick Graham is the guitar player with the best technique in the whole world.
Genaro Guerrero lol it's funny but could actually be true. He barely moves his fingers when he plays, so economical and clean

Please, PLEASE make a video on muted legato! No one else in the world does it as well as you.
Timo Komulainen listen some Greg Howe's albums, like parallax or extraction
in order to achieve this sound each finger of the left hand must be at least capable of producing a minimal force of 50,000 Newtons each
love your tone always flawless
Out of this world.
Rick, will Troy Grady have you featured in one of his video?I need to see dat right hand of yours for purposes of course.
yeah I like rick's legato and stuff, but his right hand is actually the real deal.
that was outstanding, sir.
never stop never stopping, Rick!
I ❤ that guitar.
insanely high technical level
Wicked chops bro... Excellent🤘
Absolutely awesome, almost sounds like plucked orchestra strings. Your videos are very inspiring!

Waiting for the lesson!!
Thanks I really enjoyed this.
The first notes sounded like the beginning to Get Down Tonight
Meh. 5/10 because no hand gesture at the end.
george lynch is the king of that technique
I don't know Rick.... I mean... awesome as always, but I miss the fist at the end of the shred.

Hahaha awseome Mr RG .................

Absolutely out of this universe. wtf.

Rick ! Do you by any chance like Vinnie Moore ?
davidcoolkid15 never listed to his music tbh
Did you ever get those lessons from Tyler, or did you scare him off again?
Isn't that technically staccato? As far as the sound goes 😃
All hammer-ons and pull-offs. Legato!
Deffend
Thats not what legato means
Deffend technique yes, but the actual sonic expression is sharp and instant. Like Staccato
Deffend, you silly, silly, silly man!
sounds like very fast pizzicato xd
Like a plucked violin
Oriental sounding...
It sounds cool but Rick uses this way too much in my opinion. When I listen to him play I'm just waiting for him to play a palm muted section, it's kinda predictable
The one dude who disliked this video has shit legato.
Wot.....

PSH!!! showoff! great job tho!
Jesus tapdancing christ.

But can you hold down a 6-4-1-5 strum for 10 years? No, didn't think so. Nick Jonas > Rick Graham
Daniel Scarlett these jokes with nick jonas are getting old and stupid as fuck
yup, they were never good to begin with
5 persons do not play guitar.
Move your ass and go out into the world and do something with bands. I want to see you live
Je Ha Im happy doing what Im doing.
