Great vid! I upgraded from a Rift CV1 to a Samsung Odyssey+ with second generation controllers. The tracking is not as good as my old 3 station oculus setup, but still adequate for even competitive shooters. You just gotta remember you track best where you're looking. Rip Windows MR you were before your time (and had no reason to be discontinued)
My dad upgraded from Quest 2 to Quest 3 right before Christmas, and gifted me his Quest 2. I've owned a CV1 and had a Quest 1 but it was starting to have serious issues. I tried to talk him out of gifting me the Pro controllers he bought for the Quest 2, he still had the original controllers for the 2, but he insisted he really liked the new Quest 3 controllers and was happy to not have to charge them. they are, apart from the CV1 controllers with 3 cameras, the most accurate controllers I've used in VR. combined with index style grip straps they are amazing. might eventually upgrade to a quest 3s myself but I am over the moon with the Quest 2 ( pancake lenses are nice, but I have prescription inserts and the fact the 2, and 3s have the same lenses is a plus for me ).
The Quest 2 controllers man, no idea why the batteries last several weeks or potentially months on those, simply amazing. If only they could pull the same black magic with the Quest Pro controllers. Also, much better audio this time, keep it up.
heya dude! ngl your whole vibe in your videos is so damn relaxing, yet incredibly intriguing! I loved every bit of this video, the only thing I wanna say is that it'd be cool to see what you think of the new controllers made for the vision pro, apparently they're kinda ass but that's sorta the reason I wanna see someones honest, hands on opinion, just to see how bad they really are. Who knows, maybe they're actually really good and people are just clowining on them for being made the the controversial headset that is the vision pro. Idk if you'd be able to or if you even have the vision pro, but I'm also pretty sure they're made to be compatible with steam vr, just a suggestion. Keep up the incredible work and hope you become more seen and well known in the near future, you seriously deserve it! :)
I loved the Touch 2.0 controllers, ESPEICALLY for beat saber. They gave me the absolute best experience with the Claw Grip technique, and I didn't even have the issue with the cover coming off easily, but my BIGGEST issue with the Touch 2.0 controllers was easily the durability. Idk why, but even with ZERO impacts on any object, the rings on these controllers would start to crack very easily & it was a royal pain in the ass having to constantly put clear glue/tape on them to prevent them from shattering abruptly. Touch 3.0 claw grip was ever so slightly less comfortable, and a little heavier, but their durability was honestly incredible (You could chuck them at Mach f***** towards a wall & the controller will be completely unscathed, though you might have a hole in the wall now)
I love myself a Josalt video! The CV1 controllers still reign supreme! Have you ever seen what other designs Oculus came up with before the final design? They showed some in an old Connect presentation. I made a reddit post on it. What's really interesting is that some of their old controller designs look a LOT like some of today's controllers.
listen man, give players the option between knuckles and pro controllers, and they are going to pick knuckles. perfect tracking, comfortable (for me) and the hand tracking is just amazing for the 90% of games that support it. also the index is a really good headset even though outdated.
quest pro controllers are like a glimpse in the future, you know every controller will work like this, and they only are done differently due to production costs
The tech behind the Razer Hydra would allow for fully occluded 9 dof FBT without any drift. Same tech is used in pretty much every military pilot's helmet for the HUD. It's 'slightly' more expensive to manufacture than HTC's base stations or camera tracked stuff, so companies shied away from it. (More expensive in order to increase range and reduce interference, but tech can easily be used in spaces as large as 40 meters) Also please redo this ranking, but with 'durability' in mind. after each playthru, toss in clothes tumble dryer (cold air only) for 10 minutes, see how well they work after. 12:42 Q Pro controllers have a snapdragon 835 and run android. They have to actually 'wake' from hibernation to work 0.0
Would like to see you do a best vr headset comparison, I think it's pretty much going to be the Meta Quest 3. I used to had an original Vive, switched to Vive cosmos which I regretted and got blown away by the Quest 3. No more motion sickness, roomsetup is just too good and the flexibility of the headset is something you could only dream of having.
Agreed, valve should have made a cheap knuckles controller without the capacitive/pressure stuff. After the market moved in that direction. Love the controller, but unless valve says the next headset will also be lighthouse it's not good value to buy a replacement.
I like this list because I own quest pro controllers… that being said, they only work in the light and they do not track your fingers. I would say the Index controllers deserve the king spot (at least from a vrchat perspective).
In my opinion the Vive wands needed better grips than a joystick. I can appreciate not having stick drift, but painful grips where not great. If we got Vive wands with copasative touch that would be a fun option.
I'd have liked to see more third party controllers covered too, like the FlipVR, etee, and glove controllers like Manus gloves and ContactGlove 1. Nolo seems to be missing too. Might be enough content for a followup video adding to the chart?
hot take tho, playstation had the coolest looking VR headsets and controllers. I mean the controllers for the first PS VR don't look that cool, but the headset itself looks so cool, and the controllers for the PS VR 2 are the coolest looking VR controllers ever. Idk why they just look so awesome
As somebody who daily drives a Quest Pro (for VRChat of course), while the controllers are by far the most premium and comfortable I have ever used, they have A LOT of really bad tracking / software issues. It got so bad I ended up upgrading to Index controllers since I already have base stations & VIVE trackers
As a quest pro user can assure you that that quest pro’s controllers are much worse than you think They tend to lose tracking if the light isn’t perfect Edit: forgot to mention that the capacitive sensors on the trigger and button is also not quite perfect, it just thinks the finger on the trigger/button sometimes when it’s not there
13:52 "Surprisingly it didn't seem to effect tracking at all", have you played any hard songs in beat saber? Because news flash, there's tracking issues! I'll admit its not that bad but saying it didn't effect tracking at all is a huge understatement.
Gera VR controlers drifted over time, I remeber having to twist my hand over time to keep using it. Oculus Go controllers were almost usable, but definitely better than gear VR.Quest 2 controller seemed to wear out after about 2 years, but it was nice you could put them down on a table in an upside down position.
Actually i reallly really liked the touch pad. Upgrading to new setups i can’t help but miss the vive wands. I wish the newer controllers are track pads but nobody else seems to like them
My only experience so far has been the quest 2 and psvr2. From my experience the quest controllers are more functional and the psvr2 immersive and comfortable. Ultimately it comes down to tracking which quest does better, however I would've put the psvr2 at bottom A, top B, due to their comfort and haptics.
Great informative and entertaining video as always, would you recommend the quest pro controllers for a quest 3 is the £300 asking price worth it over just using the regular quest 3 controllers?
Pretty based take. I'm using the quest pro, and comparing the index and quest pro controllers, the index has less latency and is more accurate, also has finger tracking, however quest pro controllers, even though they lack finger tracking, are way more durable and smaller, which I prefer
No one EVER mentions how the """HD""" rumble, aka the weak-ass baby haptics in the Quest3 Controllers suck complete ass and are way worse for immersion than comparable controllers and even the Quest2 . And it drives me nuts. Everyone I talked to who has tried Quest2 and Quest3 IRL (to be fair just a handfull of people) agrees on that immediately. And I never see anyone mention it online, it's uncanny.
i really don't know how you put Quest pro controllers when they float away 10 feet down, up, and anywhere to the side. Valve index controllers are the best with there base station tracking and over-all most comfortable and you can just pick them up and they work.
I agree about the quest pro controllers being the best but they have so many issues caused by meta's software updates. It made them completely unusable for a while for me. Without talking about them bricking completely for some people.
Hey josalt Psvr2 is number 1. Heres reason i think itd number one The tracking is amazing no vr controller has haptic and special triggers. The head set the best it has what vr headset don't feed back and the high tech you need you putting the meta above Sony is a sin meta is a b and song is an s the best out of the best Sony tracking is better no lost tracking meta does meta is good for work out no ring on the meta so you raw dog it and let go with no straps I hate straps so I raw dog it meta trigger and grip button are weak and losein not the sonys sony's has the best design and how it feels.. valve's index is an A or a b + bc it's old they need a new designs and features missing both. Also you can get psvr2 for pcvr half price of a value and get better tech out of it
my pair of quest pro controller got stick drift in less than 2 months and the menu button got double clicks too and since I'm living in se asia they provide 0 support it sure is great what it work but man it definitely not worth the pricetag
I think the one 1st place should be second bc the lack of new its q3 controller with better tracking are the grip button and trigger feel different it's a big no they are too soft feeling like a arcade game it's the best psvr2 is the best at play awesome. Into the radius on psvr2 feel amazing into the radius on meta is okay but lacking in alots of areas the psvr2 controller take pcvr and meta games make them better you feel like you in the game more it makes things feel alive like the walking dead psvr2 vs meta please play on psvr2 it's free it get Sony plus premium plan you also get synapses one of the best top 5 or 10 on best vr games I ever played then a star wars game that turned a cool basic game into a masterpiece on psvr2 when hit in back you can feel shot wear it hit so you know where the foes at then the golf game almost every one love then couple more fun titles some might like i think Sony games vr games are bigger then meta besides two big vr game ever one knows Sony vr plus vs meta plus plan Sony wins bc the more big games then meta on the plus meta and Sony adding stuff

Yeah me too! Love watching josalt's videos!
So glad you put the Oculus touch controllers at the top, they are still some of the best controllers to date in terms of comfortability and usability.
Thanks for spoiling the video
I love these videos Josalt! Keep them up. ❤

yoooo, whats up josalt, i love your videos!!!!! i also live in australia
I feel like more companies should try to replicate the index controllers with the finger tracking

Supposedly Apple is working with Sony to get the PS VR two controllers to work on the Vision Pro
Yup

The Vive wands needed better grips and buttons.
I also don't mind the touchpad.
@DiamondDepthYT In terms of better buttons they really coulda used some face buttons in the first place. A menu and option button just don't cut it.
6:08 first Vr controller I ever used

I am the world's single Oculus go fan🔥
I loved the WMR controllers and their trackpad joystick combo when I had it, downside is they don't have very good durability, be careful with them.

you included the gear vr but not the daydream controller, also the lenovo mirage solo 6 dof controllers
Hey josalt, do you think the new quest 3 with quest 2 lenses is a good deal?
What I'd give for quest pro style controllers for base station headsets
quest 2 is such a bargain that with its quirks its still a really good headset
it would be too good to be true if it was flawless
i really don't know how you put Quest pro controllers when they float away 10 feet down, up, and anywhere to the side. Valve index controllers are the best with there base station tracking and over-all most comfortable and you can just pick them up and they work.
