So, just to add that I'm not an expert on this stuff but it keeps getting requested , so here you are. In hindsight, I should have probably made the Photoshop background grey rather than white, to help show the mount better, but I think it still gets the message across. Also the second image has been re-edited since I made the original film and my Photoshop skills have improved..
Member-Patreon: very nice explanation. I used to do this a lot, but now I present my photos digitally without borders. Happy for you that you can go out again soon, enjoy the spring feeling!
I have just learned something very useful from your excellent video Simon. Great to hear you are now back in regular operation, but do occasionally give us some of your processing tips!
Thanks Simon - this was very helpful for me. Nice to see you looking well. I hope you are enjoying some spring weather which will most certainly arrive for you before here in Canada!
Hi Simon Thank you for giving us new material, despite the frustration of your confinement. As, I am sure, many of us have pictures of a standard size, have you considered creating a few standard mounts (say white, grey, and black - each with their bevel cut), saving them and introducing them as a layer over a chosen picture? Looking forward to seeing you out and about a bit but please take it easy. We are here for many years to come!
Hi Dave I tend to use the same size outer frames and can do them really quickly. The reason don't use what you suggest, is that sometimes I might crop slightly and it's noticeable on the pre-set mounts.
Having acquired my own printer, I have been playing with using borders and I will try this with my next 'masterpiece' Simon. Good to know you are getting back towards being mobile again. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Steve. I don't really print but i think you are best sizing the paper to less than its actual physical size. I think if you put a white boarder on, the printer will print it, which seems a bit counter productive on white paper.
Excuse my simplistic approach to this Simon but have found working in Photoshop express there are a selection of basic framing templates which are very simple to apply - maybe a little easier for the beginner in Post processing. 👍
Thank you for this tutorial, Simon. It will be very helpful when I learn how to use it properly. My problem is I am unable to get a color to appear in the canvas. The Canvas Extension Color is greyed-out, and I am unable to use it. How do I get that to be active? Thank you.
I'm away form PS at the moment so i can't check but i suspect you need to create a new blank layer instead of this way. Use edit and transform to reduce the size of the image and then use the paint bucket tool to paint the background layer. You can add a stroke to your image as i describe.
@@SimonBoothPhotography Thank you for getting back to me. I was able to figure out how to make the borders white. I just followed the steps you outlined. The mistake I made was to use a screen-captured photo as the image I brought into Photoshop instead of using one of my camera-captured images. For some reason, Photoshop couldn't put a white border around a screen-capture. It worked like a charm when I used an image captured with my camera. Thanks again for the tutorial. It was most helpful. I hope you are feeling well.
Hey Mr Booth. Hope your recovery is going well, and you will be out and about before you know it. Cool effect the canvas cut edge huh!?... LOL Speak soon buddy. = ) Regards, Ewan
Hi Simon for the hobbits or budget and non-photoshop editor like myself I use LR mobile on an iPad and to get the boarder I use the expand tool in Snapseed which is free. Looking forward to your photo outings again. Thanks

Welcome on board Bill, it's good to have you.
Thanks Simon very interesting will definitely remember to try. So glad to see you are getting better.
Glad you enjoyed it Alwyn
Thanks Simon, I’ve never thought of putting an edge around the frame to create that effect. That attention to detail does make your work stand out!
Glad it was helpful Adrian
Hi Simon: Thanks for sharing these techniques. Cheers, Keith
Glad it was helpful!
I guess i missed the Relative box being checked. Took me awhile to figure out how you were doing the canvas size. Thanks for the video
Yes, sorry Jim, I think a grey background would have been more helpful in hindsight.
i did the same thing
Hi Simon, great to hear you'll be back out soon. I'm impatient to see what spring is bringing to the woods and meadows of England.
You and me both Sarah, i've started shooting some of the flora already!
Perfect use of saving that into an action.
It's weird, I used to use actions a lot but not so much these days.
Great stuff thank you sharing your skill
Thanks for watching
enjoyed. best picture~ 😲
Thanks 😆

Hi Wim, I think it's very much a personal thing and I have a preference for no borders to at the moment.
Thank You...

Very informative Simon . Thanks for sharing. Good to know you are on the mend
I am on the mend thanks Jim but keep your eye on the membership posts for an update.

Roger that Simon, I was simply thinking of adding the 'angle cut' around the image and then printing with a border set in the Lightroom Print module.
@@G0FUW ah ok, yes that would work.

I'm a fan of whatever works best Glenn.
Is that scalebar force? been there lots of times and captured the same shot, hopefully gonna go this year with the drone and shoot from bottom to top
Yes, that would make for great footage.

A small number of people had asked me how I do mine so I thought I would oblige Neil. Whatever works the easiest for the individual I guess.
For some reason this is not working for me, I see nothing...help?
In that the video is missing ?
