Dear Simon, love the intro and good words. Just ignore the bitter comments they will say what they feel, you go by what you feel. Amazing images love it. Nature is truly majestic in its design. Nothing wrong with choosing a new fresh photographic system, after all your photographic eye will still see what it keeps on seeing. The equipment just captures what you see and the technology makes it easier and or enhances the experience. We all get older and like to once in a while treat ourselves. Go for it squire!

Hi Simon, I agree, the decision to change camera setups is a difficult one indeed. I last made a change in 2016 when I bought a Canon 5DsR. It's "OLD TECH" now but I love the camera. I manage to compensate for not having a live screen that moves by using an external screen mounted on the top of the camera. That works well for a 70yo Landscape photographer. IT will be interesting to see which system you end up changing to? PS: you got a mention in Ewan Dunsmuir latest RUclips episode I also love Ewan's style and his insights to landscape photography. Reading some bitter comments here. Personally I love your work and you have taught us a lot. You create beautiful images and that’s all that matters to me. People should understand that these creators are putting a lot of effort in these videos and taking us on their journey. I would totally understand whatever decisions they take regarding their choice of cameras etc. they are free to do it. That is their life and small things can sometimes matter especially when you grow old. Personally for me too photography is my life now so I do indulge myself and buy new gear sometimes. But i would still advise that actually it makes little difference. Both things can be true. It is a genuine advice for a newcomer but people are allowed to have good things especially when they have dedicated their lives to it.

I only use APS-C (Pentax) myself and don't want to compare myself to you in terms of technology and ability. Despite all the arguments, I don't know whether I would go your way. A modern full-format camera offers almost unlimited possibilities for moderate money. Full-format and APS-C sensors are so highly developed today that they are far superior to an older medium-format camera. You can hold two or more truths in your hand at the same time. This isn't preaching, it IS FACT! The eye of the photographer takes precedence over the equipment. I made images 40+ years ago that earned me a direct trade with one of the 20th century's great photographers, Aaron Siskind, family friend and mentor of sorts. The camera I'd used was my first solo purchase, an early 70's Nikkormat. It was the seeing that piqued Aaron's interest in my image, not the equipment. However, this being said, as photographers we are ALWAYS looking for the sharpest glass, the best camera to utilize the glass, and which can give us the best results. So, blah blah blah blah blah Roger, when you can say that you have spent a quarter century or more in my case, developing your own negatives, and printing them and have done so with equipment that challenged you and made your task more difficult, then I'll listen to your aimless rant! Why did Ansel seek out the finest lenses and best camera? Why did my father and his and my mentor Minor White spend so much time mastering the craft and using the best equipment available? Why do camera manufacturers and lens makers try to make the best equipment possible? Because the BEST SEEING requires the BEST equipment with which we produce the best possible images! THAT IS WHY ROGER ZOUL!!!!

It really is too bad Pentax had not refreshed their medium format. I suppose with Hassy and Fuji in the market their market share would be too small to make it profitable. Even if they did you may find it didn't feel like the old Pentax and prefer the Hassy anyway,
Being a bit older than you I "settled" for the full frame mirrorless - medium format being wasted on me. Plus they just don't fit my use case. That said, if you could afford a 2nd camera for light work that would be something to explore.

I really don’t get how you could get so upset about the camera I choose to use. I’ve had several Practika’s, numerous Canon’s, a Mamyia and a Pentax system gaining over 40 years of experience. Why would it matter to anyone what I consider to be the best for my purpose. I don’t need a camera that shoots video, so why would I buy one?

@@SimonBoothPhotography Same here - just give me a camera - I once had my brother turn up to my house with a WW1 Helmet and a Rifle he had borrowed it on a Sunday and need a shot for the cover of his book - my cameras were at my studio - he said I got one in the car - I got it out and the lens had come away from the mount - I stuck it on a tripod popped it on manual focus and exposure and 'M' setting - held the lens to the camera and still got the shot!!!! Its never about the camera but as I expressed above replying to the commenter - why ,when you can, not use the best camera available!!!! Sounds like sour grapes. Same goes for Hi-Fi!!!!!!
