My dad met Bob serveral times when he stayed in London. Dad was a taxi driver and provided service. He got to know one of Bob's crew who invited my dad up to the top floor of the flat he was staying at - my dad sat down with others present and listened to the rehearsing. This occured several more times whilst Bob stayed in that property. My dad is 83 now and holds very fond memories.
This is the best documentary about Bob and the Wailers that I've ever watched. I thought I'd learned as much as I was ever going to learn about the subject, but a huge amount of the information in this one is new to me! I appreciate how it didn't waste time focusing on aspects of his life that dozens of other documentaries go to great pains to repeat ad infinitum, but instead shares a lot of rare gems from the mouths of the very people who were there. Amazingly done 👏👏👏
This important documentary captures Bob Marley and the Wailers on the cusp of transitioning from "local" heroes to international stars. The atmosphere of expectation and hopefulness (wherein nothing is guaranteed) is quite palpable. The reminiscing of individuals who were eyewitness to that transition allows the viewer to experience the mesmerizing effect of seeing something that feels transcendent, but not knowing for sure what it means or where it's going. Many bands and performers have been at this stage, but for one reason or another traversed only the foothills and slopes of success, never quite making it to the pinnacle. The photo of Bob purchasing football equipment for kids back in Jamaica perfectly demonstrates the ethereal quality that makes him beloved by both his contemporaries and by millions who came along after his death. He's heading into his future, but looking back from whence he came.
Thanks for posting and explaining Bob's legacy. Since that time in October 1981, when I first heard Bob's song, "Redemption Song" I became addicted to his music 🎵
I first saw Bob Marley and Wailers with the iThrees in Manchester at the Free Trade Hall I was 18years old 1975.. It was my first ever concert.. Fabulous!!❤💃 I saw him again in Hulme when he visited the HQ at the time of the Twelve Tribes of Israel the Rasta Movement at the Ardrie Center.. around 1979/80 An awesome depiction of Bob and the Wailers Awesome...
the intersection of punk and reggae and before it skinhead to rudeboy was so vital to uk. the societal fringe now had voices that the established order had to take notice of.
It has been over 40 years since Marley has left us and its incredible that i have yet to see anyone who knew him personally speak bad about him now if you dont understand that Bob was larger than life then i cant help you 😂 RIP Bob you are my favorite person
Bought Catch a fire album when i was 14 ❤ that was 50 years ago , & see him in concert at Cardiff City football stadium in 1976 absolutely amazing & never forgotten !!!!!
I have my own story about falling into Bob Marley Music. It's for me a never ending Book, a two ways traveling time. Like the Bible you can find in comfort, inspiration, strength, knowledge, blessing, anything positive you need through your journey on this Earth...
I can never get enough of this Messengers songs and Words may all Of us who are Alive Remember the Message and Treat each other with love and respect no Matter who We are or Where we live or come from Peace and Love To the Marley Family ☮️💞
I loved this document, gives us things to think about. Hats off to the elders who put in the work before us with little or no resources so individuals like myself can enjoy the results today . Bob Marley hit the international countries at the correct time when oppression was at an all time high. The world was happy to listen, now that we have Covid, Brexit, philistines oppression, America oppression on Blacks, am still puzzle as to why Jamaican singers are not capitalising on this moment and having a world tour of events. The whole brand of Jamaica was to speak about oppression and struggle but all I see now is Reggae / Dancehall singers submitting to the very system the elders who paved the way spoke about. Female singer seem to find it difficult to unite change their dress code and have a tour Europe, Africa and Usa. When this is an idea moment to uplift women with good music. As for the male singer most are stuck in their ego playing follow follow when there is money to be made buy sticking to the brand and making it grow. I think only Burna Boy may has spot this niche and may take advantage of it. We once again in the era of Rastafari where going green, eating well, and economic oppression is at its highest in 30 years.
I agree but reggae music is more alive than ever, here in Hawaii and in the world there’s a huge reggae revival. Bobs sons and family are carrying the torch and those of us that make reggae music have been so influenced by his lyrics and soul that it’s inevitable to want to follow his footsteps. Long love Bob Marley!! #onelove #allweneedislove
Bob opened the gates for concious musicians with a serious message to come through. Too many people were singing about sex & money until then. Bob sang what the people wanted to hear, whether they knew it or not. He was a prophet, he knew what was coming & if you listen to todays musicians, you can still work out who are trying to uplift & who are trying to burden❣🕊
Yes there are, many other artists, such as: Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, FredLocks, Culture, Freddie McGregor, Mighty Diamonds, l Jah Man, Junior Reid, Aswad, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Third World, Johnny Clark, Jacob Miller, Pablove Black, Don Carlos, the list goes on. Notice anything about this list? They were/are all concious artists, & they were/are all black❣
@@Reggi_Sample I agree & that's why I wrote what I wrote in the comment before yours. Most of the concious artists this world has ever known have been Black. Fact.
Thank you for posting. Inspiring Bob Marley. Fabulous, thorough documentary. on many levels. A historical document to be seen by many. I recall visiting Brixton in 1984 while studying in London. I arrived from Canada, and I went straight to Brixton the next day, jet lag and all to see for myself what it looked like after the uprisings. I went on as planned to live and study in Camden Town... I was sent a news feed that a white man on his death bed confessed to dressing a pair of converse sneakers that he had given to Bob Marley that when the sneakers pinched his toe Bob Marley said ouch and that man said in his mind that he knew that he had him and his life had went downhill ever since. Now that was that man's own words on his death bed. 2 Samuel 12. This is why I don't accept gifts from anybody.
This documentary is good but it doesn't give any contributions to the other band members in the Wailers. All three of them wrote the songs for that group. Peter Tosh wrote Get Up Stand Up.

I'm happy that Bob Marley could make a living without "debt-ing." This is what music is all about. Learning the business aspect is very important, for, without the backing -- he'd just be writing and building, out and dog houses, cluttering the industry.
It's always weird to see someone else's problem in context to your own. As an American, things like the national front and politicians like Enoch Powell seem almost impossible. Then I think of the American parallel of these organizations and public figures. Same sandwich on a different plate.
I see a interview with Judy Mowatt on YT who states that Bob embraced Christianity before he died and denounced Rasta. Not saying it’s true but does make you 🤔

Still the best, he gave so much of himself to the world in so short a time. His music will always be relevant and timeless!
Here in South Africa Robert Nesta Marley's spirit still lives, a legend of all time
Bob's music transends music. His music is not just for entertainment but for constant inspiration.
Took me by surprise this documentary. I'd forgotten how much his music shaped my world. Bob Marley was goodness without artifice.
Absolutely hands down Robert Nesta Marley *IS* the *greatest musician* to ever trod this earth's plains.
