Every now and then Pokémon pulls me in and I may buy a booster or etb but I got a bunch of hidden fates tins and unbroken bonds 4-5 years ish ago and just stored them and never looked at price again til recently. They’ve all made good money

The smart play is to flip Surging Sparks in 3 weeks time, get that inflated price due to low supply and increased demand given it's the run up to Christmas and then just wait for the restock / reprint and go in again and then sit on it for a good few years.
Great video, Alex. Keep up the good work! I'm just a casual investor - just got into Pokemon last year. I have one or two booster boxes of mostly SWSH sets. Some PC ETBs and various random products. I'm more on the collecting side of the hobby vs the investing side. However, when I first started I was more 50/50. While I do read up and watch videos about Pokemon on youtube everyday, I am not constantly watching the financial side of the market and stressing about prices anymore. It's definitely had a positive effect on my mental health!
Great video, Alex! We're a new shop in Orlando, and it's wild to me that the Pokemon investosphere has so many people leaning into unsubstantiated FOMO and fear. The opportunities are usually the things no one is talking about. I think a lot of the early Japanese booster boxes from Scarlet/Violet are criminally undervalued right now, but it's not the flavor of the moment topic so no one is talking about it.

Investments aside, I think we can all agree that it would just be tragic from the perspective of our "inner child" if this whole thing went under. Yeah, it would be *incredible* from a business point of view, like 'how did this mega-entity not sustain?', but we would be losing something deeper than dollars, when we've grown up in this world of magical intelligent pets.

My main suggestion for anyone starting any kind of investment or business in this hobby is that you keep it a hobby. Don't let it evolve into an obsession. Obsessions are never healthy, no matter which way you look at it. The more you obsess, the more mistakes you're going to make. And certainly don't let it become an addiction, because it's only going to get more complicated from there. Explore other hobbies on the side that aren't just Pokemon so you can get your mind off of it.
This is the way. I'm buying every set and when they hit 5 years, I'm liquidating a portion to reinvest in the next set while keeping a small portion for personal collection/extending the investment timeline
In ten years we don't know what can happen... Likewise before one decade, with LESS than 5 k you d buy probably ALL the base set first edition of the planet.
Thanks for putting things into perspective with your friend who isnt glued to the market. It is important to remember that seeing even 2x your gains in comparison to regular stocks is a huge win.

Certain people just need to come to terms that long term investing isn’t for them. And there’s nothing wrong with that either, they’re probably better at other things than we are at this. I think these individuals feel pressured by this strategy when in reality they don’t have to follow it. It’s ok to flip singles, it’s ok to just collect for the fun of it. If you are checking prices every morning though and making irrational emotional decisions for your long term plays, this is not a strategy for you.
It’s just like stocks, nobody can buy and hold. They think it’s a 3 month return and onto the next and it’s just not the case. Buy and hold long term forever and ever and just borrow against what you have and just create this pile of assets to leverage
All the best investments I've ever made are the ones I completely forgot about lol. In the stock market that would be the total US market index. Why? Because I don't even have to buy myself it just buys on autopilot. As far as returns on investment? that freed up time is more than I could ask for, but also it is up substantially that's for sure.
The gains on Pokemon compared to other avenues like stock and precious metals is unreal. Most stocks aren't going to double in value in a year. That's why I'm here. Stock is nice because it doesn't take up physical space, but if you have the room for it, Pokemon cards appear superior, and they'll probably be that way for a while.
Think there will be opportunities to get prismatic especially for the next half a year for MSRP. Not too concerned about getting preorders right now. That being said, I did get in some preorders already. If you don’t, however, don’t stress. They’ll be available. The market can’t sustain this indefinitely, and they are going to be releasing new products of this set for a long time. The opportunity will be there. No need to FOMO.

Great video. However this advice is for ALL INVESTMENTS. You should approach it with a 3 year minimum time horizon on ANY INVESTMENT. Then NEVER LOOK AT IT. It will go up and go down. But over time if it is legit will appreciate. If you don’t have a 3 year time horizon then DO NOT INVEST IN ANYTHING. You are a day trader. A toxic way to try to make $. You should just go trade stocks or crypto. Plus very important for taxes. If you buy ANY ASSET, then sell it before 365 days you pay capital gains tax of 33%! If you hold it for 366+ days then sell you only pay your income tax on it which is usually way less then 33% like 12-20%. SO DO NOT BUY AND SELL FAST UNLESS YOU MAKE A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY LIKE 50-100% return on a large position.

Been here since 2009, my advice dip in and out you can’t sustain full engagement year in year out. Life happens. The hardest part now is simply down to social media creating panic and causing FOMO. I started by picking up stuff I enjoyed and branched into sealed stuff which I still have since 09. Keep a level head and enjoy collecting 🎉

I just feel like everyone’s so money hungry which causes them to panic when reprints happen and try to sell their products before a reprint can happen instead of holding. That just makes me think they don’t know what investing means and get confused with investments and flipping products.
I did a video on it. For the time it takes and all the expenses for travel hotel meals vending labels cases etc it just didn't make sense for the work. That's all.

I just feel like everyone’s so money hungry which causes them to panic when reprints happen and try to sell their products before a reprint can happen instead of holding. That just makes me think they don’t know what investing means and get confused with investments and flipping products.
