In the 50s my dad worked with Duane s dad in a Safeway store in Arizona--He was always saying to my dad--" I keep telling that boy -you ain t gonna make a living with that guitar." A few years later Daune bought his parents a new house with that guitar.
Duane Eddy, Hank Marvin and Bert Weedon are the guitarists responsible for me not sticking at any 'proper' job. Never had any money, but I've had a good time (mostly). They also showed me that it's style that matters, not the number of notes that you can cram into each bar. Thanks Duane!
Phil, I'm sorry but I have just noticed this. The tank was set up outside the studio building, which caused problems with birds nesting in it. Around 1963, a new Audio Recorders was built on a new site, a much bigger studio complex, with the echo tank now inside the building. In the 80s, the room it sat in was also used for tape storage and it looked very much as if the room had been built around the tank. The studio closed about 20 years ago, but the building still stands. One story is that the tank is still there but it is maybe more likely that it was cut up for scrap as there was no way of getting it out in one piece - and that would be sad.
Mason Dixon Lion with the lion roar intro......first heard it in about 1958. It was a magical sound then and still is to this day. I idolized Duane as a kid and still think he is the epitome of cool. Duane befriending Lee Hazelwood in Arizona turned out be one of those happy little accidents that lead to great things. Had they not met the rock world may never had heard guitar played like that. Duane got a recorded sound in the late 50's that was just clear and huge sounding. My other guitar hero didn't start to get a beautiful recorded sound until the mid 60's . I'm not sure Duane even knows how great he his or how much influence he had back then.
I guess this is based (pun intended) on the old Danelectro and Fender six string basses. I think the only affordable way to get that sound now would be the Squier Bass VI, with its three pickups and bass-cut tone switch and modelled after the Jaguar. This one obviously sounds great, especially with the DeArmond pickups.
Don't know what the rest of it is, but his 6th string is tuned to a low octave "G"!!! Whazzup did dat? Is the Gretsch a Baritone?? Just googled it, and it's a 6 string BASS!!! So I'm guessin'---G/B/E/A/D/G ??? Ha!
Duane Eddy. the coolest. A few months ago in 2021 I bought a red gretsch like the one behind him; from guitar center. I got it home and it wouldn't stay in tune. I noticed the neck separating from the body. just a tiny slight crack. Needless to say I returned it . About 3 weeks ago I was back to look around and low and behold! There it was. Hanging on the wall. For sale. I knew it was her because of the slight crack. And the G string wouldn't stay in tune. We can all pretend that we don't buy from guitar center but we do. If you don't, you're lucky. turn me onto your geeter shop.
He must be using some HEAVY gauge strings or a custom scale length. My 46 just flops an octave lower. Maybe he explains that when he's talking, but I can barely make out what he's saying.
Guitar legend and they can't even properly mic him or sort feedback. Wow, this is what happens when you put millennials in control of ANYTHING. Way to ruin something that will one day be watched by historians.
So great We had this man in our time of life now I am 93 what a sound
Happy 60th anniversary Duane! You are one with the great music you make. Thank you very much and play on, please.
He's a living legend.
One of those rare guitarists, you can tell who it is by him playing just one note.

Did you grow up in Coolidge?

His ex-wife. Marie Johnson . Also known as Jessi Colter went by the name of Vesta here. In Missouri. Who is my next door neighbor.😞😔🙏🏽.
An outstanding American artist and gentleman. We love him here in England too. Anyone know what happend to Lee Hazelwood's 2000 gallon reverb tank?

RIP Duane 😞😭
legend
awesome ... cheers from germany !!!
The shout-out to Link Wray was cool.
great
It was Surfin' USA--Beach Boys that stole that lick. Unlike the Shirells, Mr. Eddy did NOT sue!! Doo-Lang-Doo-Lang-Doo-Lang.
Noisy.

John Barry, the great composer, said he was influenced by the twangs Duane Eddy. Thought it might be of interest to the film makers!
new signature model gretsch G6120 TB-DE....black

Funny you should say that. I was trying to work out the key and it was obvious he was tuned very differently.
We need Gretsch to bring back the 7690 model...Super Gretsch!!!!!
Duane Eddy. the coolest.

Classy! Bass VI NEEDS some reverb and a dash of tremolo. I gig with mine.
Pity about the feedback in the amp as it spoils it great as always from Duane
Most Economical guitarist ever. Who says you need to play a lot of notes to be great? You just have to know which notes to play!
What is that tuning??? Sounds like 1st string is a bass A. Anyone know?
It is a standard tuning one full octave below a guitar tuning. E to e.

The strings are much heavier gauge. Google search "bass vi string gauge."
What's the song he was playing at 6:30?
My Blue Heaven..
Yeah, My Blue Heaven.
new look..... but always duane eddy big twangy sound.....
Vote for ant Trump😎😎
