Nick, you are a visual historian. Capturing iconic buildings of a United States I grew up on as a British kid in the 1970’s. You are so right, 10 or 20 years from now people will see this photo and the prices on the windows and reminisce on times past and how cheap the food was. The irony wasn’t lost on me seeing the old and the new on opposite sides of the street with Amazon behind you showing the future and the past straight in front of your camera. What you are doing is important because all these building you photograph will be relics of the past and capturing them before they are gone forever is a noble gesture and a nod to the way things were. Happy New Year to you and your family. Good to see the beard back. The moustache just wasn’t right. I know, I’ve tried it.
Thanks for the kind words, Simon. With the rate old buildings are torn down around here in Southern California, I feel almost an anxiety to get out and record them before that happens. And I agree about the beard. Couldn't get used to the mustache.
If I get back over your way in the near future I will do the same, but I think time is running out. I watch a show called American Pickers. They go around buying junk from old guys who collect gas pumps, old cars, bikes, signs and anything from the past in order to preserve it. It may be junk to most, but to them it’s like gold. It got me hooked. I love old gas stations way out West. I can see what a great job you are doing recording these architectural gems of an age where the US was booming. You are documenting American culture through its buildings. Shooting your subjects on film pays homage to that time. Seeing your images makes me want to just step through the photos to the time when these run down old buildings were in their heyday. A RUclipsr in Arizona did a video on a Mall from the 80’s that’s deserted and due for demolition. He used to go there as a kid with his friends. I think he said he is going back to document it properly before they pull it down. Those early mornings may be hard for you to get out of bed, but we all really appreciate your commitment and great attention to detail.
When your videos come out, everything else gets the back seat in life. Long, short, any video is super instructive and feels like you're always there too. Well done
Oh wow, I actually ate here while I was visiting California last year. Just happened to be close to my air bnb. Great breakfast and a great photo. Cheers!
I love the glowing sky, reflecting in the windows. To me, that‘s even better than light insight. The lights at the right are helping a lot. You had a good one here.
Man! I found this so interesting. First time seeing anyone shoot this type of format. Thanks so much. Even more fascinating since I grew up 15 mins from that place!
I think the society missed a great gynaecologist looking at you changing that film without looking ;-) Love the shots, the subject and the colors are beautiful, thanks for sharing !! Happy New Year !!!
It's very impressive how I got hypnotized by the narrative of you taking ONE special photo. Good work, man. Incredible how you can tell such a simple story in a such interesting way.
One video a month is killing me man! Thank you for showcasing so much film work. You've made me want to check the seals on some old film bodies and recapture my patience.
Waking up to this the day after New Years was just a perfect way to spend some time on the sofa. I’m really glad you moved the camera and took the shot, that’s a really interesting photo as well as the first ones. I appreciate all of what you’ve done so far and I’m looking forward to see what you will come up with this year.
THANK YOU NICK ... finally someone else who puts the darkslides in like me. When I started large format photography I was on my own and thought the white side was to write the word EXPOSED on, so that is what I did. It was only much later that I found out that others did it the opposite way.
It is a good start to 2020 when a Nick Carver video pops up. Great video, loved the images. Keep the videos coming - and don't hold back on the ol' slide guitar.
Thanks for the New Year's video gift! I always look forward to these "Western Americana" architecture shoots. I loved the orange reflected light juxtaposed against the cool blue sky. The architecture always takes me back to my youth in Arizona and California. Happy New Year Nick!
It’s funny I live 2 minutes from there and I always wanted to take a photo of the place but then I remember how it looked before the remodeling and I get discouraged.... I wish I could of gone back in time and done it because the remodeling building was an old school mechanics shop with the same colors it was beautiful .... now when I see something I don’t hesitate Keep the videos coming my man ... hope to cross paths with you I’m always one step behind you 😏 Cheers
One of the few channels where I watch every upload. Thoroughly enjoyable as always.
Thank you very much. As always, it means a lot coming from you.
When it comes to these videos, I hit the like before I even watch it.
I hope I always earn it! Thank you!

shit man, keep the ads and make some money so we can continue to have great content from you released! I can wait a couple seconds.

What a way to end 2019! Yeah! And we appreciate you too.
Thank you, sir!
Glad you snuck one more of these in for 2019.
Thanks for the surprise video! Fantastic as always!
Thank you for watching!
Love your planning and your attention to detail. Appreciate you giving us another video!
Thank you!
Guy say "maybe I'm crazy" while talking to himself on camera like someone's listening
Hahah - that's a fair point.
First RUclips video of 2020, best way to start the year! 👍

That first exposure is maybe the best photo I've ever seen you take. Great stuff.
Watching Nick’ video has always been a relaxing thing to do. Thanks.
Your channel and Steve Wallis (Camping with Steve) calm me down, hold my interest and are never misses
Sun in the window with the sky like you pointed out... very nice! :)
There’s a sign in the window of the cafe stating “” Smile, your on camera “”
And now little cafe, so are you.
Another great “On Location” with Nick. Love your channel.
Thank you!
When your videos come out, everything else gets the back seat in life. Long, short, any video is super instructive and feels like you're always there too. Well done
I really appreciate that, thank you.
Another awesome video... Simple, straight forward, and as always, generously sprinkled with pearls of wisdom. Good job Nick!
Thank you!
Oh wow, I actually ate here while I was visiting California last year. Just happened to be close to my air bnb. Great breakfast and a great photo. Cheers!
Yeah they have pretty damn good chorizo and eggs.
Even though I hate long videos. I always seem to watch yours
That restaurant should be the meetup point for your classes! LOL Happy New Year!
Ha! Not a half-bad idea.
I love the glowing sky, reflecting in the windows. To me, that‘s even better than light insight. The lights at the right are helping a lot. You had a good one here.
Love your subject matter and I learn things when you explain what you look for in a composition. Great work!
Thank you!
Watching this made me hungry for that breakfast special! I love these images you capture of older buildings, and bygone hey days.
Thanks!
They have a good chorizo egg scramble too. Thank for the kind words!
Best NYE gift haven't even watched yet
Gorgeous photos, yet again! What great photography you share with the world. Happy New Year, Nick. Hopefully we can meet up again sometime in 2020!
Thanks, Arlo! And I'd be happy to. Drop me a line anytime.
I needed this, Happy New year sir.
Happy New Year!
I really like the first photo, specifically because of the orange glow in the window - so glad you zoomed in on that!
Thanks, Wes! Yeah that reflection made the shot. Lucked out there.
They just demolished an incredible old building like this in my town that I always wanted to photograph. Glad you captured this while you could!
I missed out on a rad motel here in town. Wish I'd captured it before they bulldozed it.
I liked the rays emitting from the front door in the last picture, but the first shot had the best light.
I had the same thought about those light rays.
I look forward to and savor these on location videos, superb content. Happy new year everybody
Thank you very much
Even if your pictures are timeless, I wish you a happy new year 2020 and success in your passion.
Thank you! Wishing you the best in 2020!
I dig that film loading pup tent. I also dig the photo. I think it turned out great.
Man! I found this so interesting. First time seeing anyone shoot this type of format. Thanks so much. Even more fascinating since I grew up 15 mins from that place!
From one local to another - Thank you!
I think the society missed a great gynaecologist looking at you changing that film without looking ;-)
Love the shots, the subject and the colors are beautiful, thanks for sharing !!
Happy New Year !!!
Good detail Nick. I like to preserve old unique buildings on film too. Sometimes I just shoot the doorway. I get your passion my friend.

In the final set of images, that ray of light on the asphalt stops right on the barrier. Happy New Year!
You're a hell of a communicator Nick. Salutes from a big fan from Spain!
One video a month is killing me man! Thank you for showcasing so much film work. You've made me want to check the seals on some old film bodies and recapture my patience.

Nothing but the soothing sounds of a clicking shutter to fill the quiet portions.
I feel so privileged, as if I'm right there with you. You're awesome.

I've learned it's important to jump on those photos sooner than later. Stuff changes so quickly - especially in Southern CA.
I love these videos. Hope you have a successful year in 2020 with the channel
Thank you!
I load my 4x5 holders the same way! Made sense to me so that's what I did. But I rarely duplicate 4x5 shots due to cost.
Thanks so much Nick for the entertaining videos of 2019!! Look forward to all your new posts! Have a great 2020!!
Thank you!
Happy New Year Nick!! I always enjoy your photographic journeys!! Here's to sharing more light in 2020. 👍
