      It really is... Alistair has had a hard life. I regret making him king at my first playthrough. It wasn't what he wanted and as everyone else in his life I kind of forced it on him.
      I think of him like a puppy... It's so easy for a female warden to romance him if she's just nice and compassionate. I wish this character could get a happy ending... He deserved it more than anyone. I miss that guy. And consequently I applaud the game writers for making me empathize with him so much.

      I know that the real reason is that the creators of DAO did not want to bother to think of a dream for the dog (although it is something that should have been very simple, something like simply showing him in a field surrounded by toys or bones would suffice), but what would this mean within the internal consistency of DAO? That animals are not affected by demons or that they were not interested in the dog so they ignored him?

    I know this doesn't have anything to do with the companions, but I always found it strange that the warden's perfect place would be with Duncan and the other wardens. I don't know I just think that in all origins the Warden's life has to get almost completely ruined before they decide to join the grey wardens. One would think that their perfect place would be in their old life.

    • @glassy_rose
      @glassy_rose 6 лет назад +225

      Yeah... The reason they became wardens is because they literally had no other options. The human noble has their family murdered, the dwarf noble is cast out and exiled, the city elf is taken by the Grey wardens as an alternative to being executed... Duncan was a perfectly respectable man and leader, and I wish he had lived longer, but they could have utilized the intro of the game and the origins of each character better. Certainly it would've been harder to animate 7 different cutscenes and dialogue, than 1, but it would've made it much more meaningful.

      @largeshake9601 5 лет назад +143

      I was forgiving with it, its rare for an rpg to even give you a variety of different background options that get referenced throughout the story. Would've been hard for them to implement that in every situation but they almost did.

    • @frederickbentley7774
      @frederickbentley7774 5 лет назад +203

      I always thought that this was why our Wardens saw through it so easily. The demon wasn't even trying. It gave us a "perfect" world but that's not what we want. We want our family and friends back. Duncan is great and all and we had at least a month (depending on our origin) to get to know him while on the road to Ostagar, but he doesn't matter as much as our old life. My human noble would be at her family castle with Howe's forces defeated with no casualties. My mage would see his best friend Jowan happy and a full mage and maybe even holding hands with Lily. But it's implied that the demon can't get a good read on us and so it just guesses.

    • @MURPHYCHACHO
      @MURPHYCHACHO 5 лет назад +38

      I agree. I know it's not reasonable to expect the developers to make scenes for each companion AND a vision for each individual origin, but I really think that would have had much more of an emotional impact for the player. The human noble is suddenly back with their family alive and whole, the city elf is at the happy wedding reception they never got to have, etc. Imagine having to force your character to walk away from that, knowing it isn't real, but still having to watch those visions of the warden's loved ones begging them not to leave...

    Ya know, it's unfortunate the Warden's dream isn't tailored to their origin story. It might make for a more heartrending scene, and it would make defying the demon more difficult (and also more satisfying). Seeing Duncan in the Fade, acting like everything is wonderful and congratulating you, is just way too obvious and easy to break from. The Warden doesn't have much attachment to him, and depending on how you RP your Warden it may not even be consistent with their character. These dreams are supposed to be fantasies (or nightmares) intended to keep ahold of the dreamer. But if the Warden has no desire to be a Grey Warden and has little attachment to Duncan then it just feels kinda cheap. I know that it would've been more work and money and resources, but I still wish Bioware had made the player's portion of the Fade based on their character's origin story. For example:
    - A Dwarf Commoner might have a fantasy about becoming a noble and being respected, and their mother not being a drunken bitch and Rica being happy and not forced to sell herself on the streets.
    - A Dwarf Noble might dream of not being betrayed by their brother or killing Bhelen and ascending to the Orzammar throne with the blessing of Endrin.
    - A Dalish Elf might dream of never having found the Eluvian and blissfully hunting with Tamlen in the forest or of becoming Keeper.
    - A City Elf might dream of being happily married instead of their wedding being ruined and their friend being raped. Or they might dream of their mother being alive and being happily single.
    - A Mage might dream of being free or gaining prestige within the circle, and their friend Jowan being happy and free with Lily.
    - And lastly, a Human Noble might dream of their family all still being alive and happily playing with their nephew or dog or something.

      @@thesixthkid7689 oh, I took my game the very "roleplaying playthrough", so I go human noble, become a grey warden seeking revenge, all the ostagar shit, recruit everyone I can and befriend them, save Eamon his wife and son and go to Denerim, here's when the real shit happens: save Anora and surrender to Cauthrien, Wynne and Morrigan save me and Alistair from prison (oh, you just need to see morrigan trying to pass like a chantry's sister it's gold I tell you), then free both of us make a deal with Anora by my own and like in game of thrones I get all the evidences against Loghain making a deal with the magister (it will be a bad move to simply kill a foreign government representative for someone who pretends ferelden's throne, so in my head make a deal with the magister and offers him 150 sovereings in return for him spreading the word in the Imperium that Ferelden will be open for business soon), release anyone in Howe's psycho pervert mansion assalting the place in a killing spree like the rendon do in my house (for ser gilmore and the others) but then I discover that vengeance will not suffice me, the bastard is dead but that's all, nothing will be like back, so I need a new future, a new family. Go full for Anora, wining the landsmeet with full support but redeeming Loghain by allow him as a Grey Warden (what anora wish) and betray Alistair allowing Anora to execute him (again for gain her favor but also cause Alistair as she say could be a problem, he was public anounce as the last Theirin and my ultimate wish was to the Cousland's take the throne, so sorry, but in this playthrough it's Power over Friendship). In the final when Morrigan's offer her ritual I take the Game of Thrones choise (as I see it) and convince Loghain to do it (for two reasons, the first I want not risk to give Anora any reason against our union and cheating will be seen as a bad move in any way, the second I was plaining to have a real heir and a bastard could be another problem, see Alistair thing above). Then Anora just tell me She will become the queen and I just her prince-consort, and again I agree, but take my final move: told her I was and will be at her side in anything, leting her to control the country, going so far to let her execute my only true friend and saving even her father who hunt me like a dog, and never asking her anything but one boon than she cannot refuse me, if he wanted my unconditional support: our heir will have my surname and after her rule, the Theirin line comes to and end and the Couslands will become the new royal dynasty of United Ferelden.

    Shale. I love her so much. Oh man. She's the best. She cracks me up so much. #headcrush
    What always strikes me about Alistair's scene is when he says, "I thought being a Grey Warden would make me happy but it didn't."
    He's pretended up to this point that he likes being a Warden, as if trying to convince himself and everyone around him. But he can't. Aw. And, if you do this scene before meeting Goldanna for the first time--you're like: Oh, maybe she'll be nice. NOPE. BITCH.
    I love Alistair's voice actor. He's so amazing.
    I need Oghren to meet Iron Bull.
    I'm curious though about Wynne. If she's actually inhabited by a spirit when this scene takes place--how did she get tricked in the Fade? Putting aside that she's a mage--wouldn't Sloth see both Wynne AND the spirit inside of her? I know if you take Anders into the Fade with you in DA2---Justice takes over Anders entirely and is like: O HAI. Shit. Didn't even THINK to come out by entering the Fade.

      With regard to the Wynn thing... I think it's a question of headspace, when is essentially dead the only thing keeping her alive is the spirit that's inhabiting her. I suspect that the spirits full attention is taken up with keeping her alive. Anders was possessed while he was still alive, essentially serving as a refuge for the spirit of justice so this states that spirits are largely shaped by the perceptions of the mages who encounter them and this was an extremely angry individual before Justice inhabited his body, he perceived justice as vengeance and so justice became vengeance, however I suspect that it wouldn't take much of a push for justice to become full blown rage demon... assuming he wasn't riding shotgun to Anders soul

    i once had a creepy glitch happen with morrigans dream, i chopped off flemmoths head then i hit the button too soon and restarted the scene with a HEADLESS flemmoth talking to morrigan, lol.

    I always liked how Morrigan easily knows it's fake, but I didn't know Sten knew as well. Shouldn't of underestimated his intelligence~ of course the silent reclusive type ends up being one of the smartest. :o

      It has nothing to do with his intelligence, it is implied that Qunari (Kossith) dream differently, wich should make him more aware than Zevran for example.

      And yet he was still weak minded as he preferred to stay in the dream until the Warden arrived.

      @@SeventhheavenDK Less weak minded and more, enjoying the moment while it lasted. It's like dreaming of a long dead family member and talking with them. Even if you knew it was a dream, you'd still cherish it for awhile. I'm not saying that he could've broken out of it, but I am saying that just because he hadn't decided to yet doesn't make it bad.
      "It can wait." - means "let me enjoy the moment and then I'll do it"

    You forgot dog... but don’t worry it’s not exciting it’s just him sleeping and the warden wakes him up that’s all.

    I hated that ogren and a dwarf warden will go to the fade .
    I wish it was the legit way to skip the fade is by being a dwarf or having a dwarf in the party to wake up the others .

    I hope that if that have a section of temptations in the fade in inquisition its more like in the book, the calling, where its closer to reality rather than just a lumpy floor with a smattering of npcs.
