No one explains surveillance and human rights issues quite as well as Jacob Appelbaum. I echo the comment of one of the persons below, to say "so glad Jacob is back". He has a unique role in this world, and he is so appreciated by so many.
Thank you so much for sharing this, I really hope Jacob would do more of these, he used to do a lot of speeches and interviews like 10 years ago. We need people like him to speak more and speak louder! The solution to bad speech is more speech!
Jacob you have been missed.. You are courageous! Why so few at “Rage Against the Machine”? Going back to Occupy Wall St. 2011, a month long demonstration against banks at the foot of Manhattan that had sympathetic responses all over the country. One year later there was an anniversary march from Brooklyn across the Brooklyn bridge to Manhattan. The NYPD blocked both sides of the bridge trapping 700 demonstraters. They were all arrested and taken to jail. Once there, the police said, “Give us your phone # or your ISP, and you can go...” The NYPD then sent that information to the NSA. These people were mostly employed and semi-employed professional with careers to consider. They now found themselves on an active list in government hands. The NSA can label these people as a threat and influence corporate interests, “Do Not Hire this Person!” In the US, to protest the war makes you the enemy...
Thanks for this excellent overview about the current state of surveillance. As others here have stated, I think Jake is an incredibly powerful & valuable voice on this subject & has the ability to make an important contribution to the debate about surveillance & the influence of technology on the society & also our individual lives. How we educate & inform the wider society & especially the young generations is pivotal at the present time. Many ordinary people have concerns about the intrusiveness of technology in their everyday lives but lack the insight to know how they can empower themselves. Knowledge will always play a vital role by informing people about the ways in which technology is shaping our present & future as a starting point for further exploration & change. PS: FREE JULIAN!!!
@@pajeetsingh what are you talking about the ISP infrastructure blocks it? There are still real ISPs out there that allow you to open ports on your router and that's all you need.

4:16 - I've been trying to tell people that they can run their own servers. Like Jitsi Meet which has end to end encryption.
The ISP infrastructure blocks it. But there are ways but the ISP marketplace is artificially created to take values from the end consumers.

@@nirv CNAT does not allow it.
@@pajeetsingh then that is not a real ISP and you shouldn't be paying money for that.
