I think it's for a certain niche of people, and the majority of the general public doesn't fit that niche. But for those of us who do fit into that niche, there's absolutely nothing like this film. To me it's my favorite film of all-time hands down. To me it's a masterpiece.
“Citizen Kane” failed at the box office. So did “It’s a Wonderful Life”, "Harold and Maude" and “The Big Lebowski”. Buster Keaton’s now forgotten sound films with Jimmy Durante did far better than his classic silent movies. “The box office” is even less of a guide to quality than the Oscars.
I can watch this movie over and over again. Thanks to Johnny Depp , Benicio del Toro and the whole magical cast this trip never bores me. R.I.P. Hunter S. Thompson.
Same. In fact it seems to somehow age like fine wine and get even better the more I watch it. It never ever gets old and I've seen it more times than I can count.
Maybe because of Depp's epic performance as Hunter, Del Toro's performance was a bit overshadowed but I think he totally stole the show. The job he did as Dr. Gonzo made this movie...for me, anyway.
Hunter must have felt strange when they shot the matrix scene. A precious memory of his, reproduced over and over again in a wide, dark and empty industrial surrounding.
Probably because he himself appeared in several scenes during that part of the movie; many directors do that, either making cameos in their own movies, or sometimes taking the lead role. Mel Gibson’s “Braveheart” and “Frankenstein” directed by Robert De Niro are two such examples.
I don’t think they should get paid they look like they’re having way too much fun does not look like work❤😃 I should get that movie on DVD in the mail tomorrow I am so excited I have never seen it
@clydefrog217 id forget about them man. Way too fruity. get ray ban CARAVAN models. with or without the brow bar, cant beat em. Also good as they are different to aviators (too man people have them )
How in gods name did this fail at the box office.

In all fairness this movie seems to have no plot at all apparently at first glance
Truth
Not what traditional movie audiences were looking to watch in the 90’s. Was just a little too weird for them

Best viewed drunk, drinking, and with some blow. Epic ride every time.

He was great, yet the role should have been Gary Farmers.
Did you eat all this acid? That's right! MUSIC!
Respect to the person who chose the music for the film!

He must have felt anyway, they shoot a movie about one of his adventures
I imagine that day of filming stayed with him for a little while and made him think about a lot of things.
Without a doubt this movie was Depp's living theatre tour de force...
johnny depp is one of my top 10 favorite actors and i think he can be #1 this year !!!=)
Atleast this year or the next :D
I’ve only just watched this film and it’s fucking genius!!!
Terry's dressed like Lawrence of Arabia

I didn't realize who Benicio was at first, but then I googled the pictures, and I recognized him, but here, he is younger, and handsomer.
Watch The Usual Suspects, he is great in that movie too
Try excess baggage so hot in that
I’ll have everyone know that they ABSOLUTELY used phony narcotics throughout this movie. I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea. 😂😂😂

does anyone know where to get those glasses at 0:44?
did you get the glasses?
Dr Gonzo
I read the book and it was amazing but the movie didn't portray it like book.
3:15, is that really Jefferson Airplane playing?
No, it's impossible
Actually the man who sells the LSD on that scene was the jefferson airplane guitar player
@Nedd Flanders and Flea was playing Jack Cassidy, the bass player from Jefferson Airplane, I'm pretty sure.
