Game gets a 9 " You're just corporate shills" Game gets a 6.8 "You're just being contrarian for clicks" Lol IGN can't catch a break. Also this people take reviews way to personally. Especially when there's a game that has a ludicrous amount of hype behind it.
Don't forget the part where they compare the score to a score given to a different game, in a different genre, on a different console, from a review written by a different writer, as if that somehow proves anything.
So many people disliking the video because he's actually being honest of how he felt about the game instead of calling it the best game for reasons that dont make sense. Great job ign for giving 1 of the few honest reviews
I highly agree. It gives me goosebumps with teary eyes when the music started when entering an area. The cinematography and sceneries are refreshingly wonderful. The story is amazing. Unpredictable and satisfying. I really love this game.
I wouldn't mind this score if they fairly scored annual garbage releases like cod and FIFA. There's now way those games deserve higher scores than this
it should actually be: "the whole thing seems like a personal attack on reviewers, who had to play hastily, a game where you need to do just the opposite"
another detail that shows he was rushing the game is the umbrella comment at 9:05 . Theres no point in carrying the umbrella because you can't take any packages during teleport, they need to stay in the distro center
To the people that liked this game, if Kojima didn’t make this game, if it were a disliked company like Bethesda or ubisoft that made this game and charged you $50 to deliver packages, there is NO WAY in hell you’d be making excuses and speak fondly of it. You know it’s the truth.
I think a lot of people just hate ign's score system, not the score itself. 6.8 is a fine score, and I am enjoying the game quite a bit, but I wouldnt give it more than an 8. I hate this review specifically though because it is a whole point below fuckin ME Andromeda. lmao
Clarence Escuella thats just like your opinion man. I honestly really enjoy the game. It’s slow paced relaxing and beautiful. The exposition dumps at the beginning are a little annoying but I love the gameplay. A lot of his problems with the game are solved with just a little bit of perseverance, and while the controls are a little tricky at first with a little practice and patience I now have a very firm grasp on what I can and cannot do. But that’s just like my opinion man.
To understand the game and Sam you have to “walk a mile in his shoes” it’s not easy to explain but by playing the game you’re heavily incentivized to create paths for other people to use. To collaborate with other players on building roads. To interact and be supportive of other players. But most importantly to do very difficult tasks alone. It’s a game that wants to relay the very specific emotion of being alone. And also the systems in the game are incredible!
Just finished this game and honestly loved it. If you're feeling lonely and the pandemic is taking its toll, this game is hugely comforting. It was a breath of fresh air and I hope more people give it a chance
Kojima's worshipers, nothing new. To them, everything he makes is somehow revolutionary or genius. Kojima himself is egotistical, the fact he said this game was a new genre, is just pathetic.
Starry Night Say what you will but how is kojima egoistical? it is a fact that he is one of the great creative minds that deeply impacted the gaming industry with his mgs series. idk about death stranding yet but kojima being a legend of the industry is pretty much established
The funny thing is that it doesn't actually hurt the video. The RUclips algorithm will view it as more engagement and thus place it higher in the search results. Not voting and not commenting would have done more damage.
@@frodobaggins7469 Hideo is awesome, but this game shows how out of touch he is. If you want a video game director who is a true auteur, and way ahead of his time, that has forever changed gaming, then look at Hidetaka Miyazaki. That's why Sony and so many companies literally spent millions just bidding on him to work with them. Everything Miyazaki touches turns to gold.
Reviewer: It feels like you're being declared the winner of a food fight, only to find out that your prize is a mop and bucket. That analogy though 😑😂😂
Actually I think that's really far off.because a game where you have a food fight would probably actually be fun if that was the main concept. but in this case he's saying that the actual thing that you do in the game, and the main concept of the game is not fun. I don't know if the reward for beating this game would be fun. But I don't imagine the reward for the food fighting game to be as awesome. But it could be go development it become a millionaire and just remember me if you could please.
I mean kojima has been telling for years this wasn't a shooter game and you wouldn't be awarded for killing stuff and now that is out people are surprised you aren't awarded for killing stuff?
Sure the entire game is a glorified fetch quest. I don’t think anyone here will deny that. But it’s not monotonous like a fetch quest. The experience feels different and when you actually make the delivery you feel validated as if you’ve achieved something. You just survived climbing a ghost infested mountain with rain that will kill you to deliver a pizza. It’s silly and fun and the feeling you get when you see an S rank with all those like is a pure dopamine rush. Maybe next time focus less on what you’re doing and more on what the experience of what you’re doing brings you.
Counter point: the game is hypocritical, anything you do accomplish is taken away for even the most basic of tasks to make the game more challenging. MGS never did this. And being creative to finish your missions actually gets you lower grades. To think that a 4x4 truck can't even manage the slightest of rocks is just poor design.
totally agree. if you don't do any side missions it's beautifully paced as well. every time i got bored hiking something surprising came around the corner. plus it's incredible how the ending plays out. credits roll.... two hours later: real credits roll *thumbs up*

Sorry it's not 'typical open world game'/mobile mashing game/Metal Gear Solid. I felt like reviewer had a lot of expectations and projections about the game - and it didn't match his picture. It's obviously not game for everyone. But will I buy it? Probably, not 100% sure. But if I will, it's mostly for graphics, cinematic experience, unique focus on unique points and few more. After all of these years of cryptic messages, sci fi spectacle and philosophical themes the game is finally revealed to be... ...the struggles of a FedEx delivery man.
I have to say I found this to be a very strange review. Yes this game is about delivering stuff from one place to the next but I bought the game anyway as I liked the look of it and I found that the game was so much more than what this review gave the impression of it being. For a start, you made it sound like you would be running around on foot for such an unbearably long time before you finally get a vehicle, yet you get a bike very early on in the game. I don't know, maybe it is just me. I found this review made it feel like one of those games where it is just repeating the same thing over and over again and, while the missions are all delivery missions, the constantly changing terrain has made it feel NOT AT ALL like a game where you are just repeating the same thing over and over again.
Every game is doing the same thing. For example all you do in Call of Duty is shoot people. It's a dumb way to summarize a game. This game has a lot more going for it than the review says.
It’s the same gameplay loop plus when you build things it makes it easier so you end up taking the same efficient routes every time making the game play loop eventually repetitive
@@MIKUIEL You don't take the same routes. If all you do is story you will be going to new territory. Fighting MULES and trying to connect to the network and help other players. It is a lot more than the same routes. You get vehicles and other routes around the map.
@@nurulafsar1304 I researched and what I found is that so many reviewers are saying the same thing. "this game is not a game" man, even there is an article saying ending cut-scene is more than two hours.
@@Henry_Slatyki Definitely not. Kojima always exelled at storytelling . Even his first metal gears had so much text in them that it was crazy back then.
For a walking simulator it’s actually quite engaging lol. You’d think walking across an empty map over and over would get repetitive quick but it doesn’t, having to watch where you walk, making sure you have the right tools for the trip, taking in all the breath taking landscapes really sells the gameplay loop.
@@Rhi_Spawn_no. This is actually a walking simulator. The same way that a game having cars isn't automatically a driving simulator. And the games that we generally call walking sims are NOT walking sims. They don't actually simulate walking with any kind of depth you just glide around
Just watch Skill Up's review, he goes way more in-depth about the gameplay and how the systems are really satisfying when you put your mind to overcoming the difficult act of traversal. A lot of risk and reward mechanics built into just traversal, where you have to strategise your loadout for the journey ahead. Obstacles can be approached organically utilising numerous pieces of equipment, so choices matter a lot, e.g. packing light with an exo with a few spare batteries to prioritise speed, or packing heavy with gadgets to help you over rough terrain. It's basically a Bear Grylls-if-he-can-bring-everything simulator. It really looks like the IGN reviewer just wanted to skip to the combat, instead of seeing obstacles and setbacks as things to overcome, he sees it as extra time not spend fighting the militia. Like a game built with a deep combat system, but the reviewer played by speedrunning and avoiding all the enemies, then reviewed it as 'frustrating to play' and missing out on the satisfaction of learning the combat properly.
ark13700 I was just joking about how IGN have no idea how to review a game and always bring up dark souls in their reviews like it’s the only game their reviewers played lol
@Michael Pelton imagine not reading reviews for their critique and the information they provide but only to read the arbitrary, misleading number at the end. Even other reviews have stated that the game is boring (although puzzlingly some of said reviews have still given it a perfect score)

The part where he trips and loses his entire inventory and how you have to hold the triggers and balance yourself just to move was enough for me. No thanks.
Other reviews say there are mechanics that should help you resolve these problems. The reviewer here did not seem bothered to explore these mechanics; he did not even mention their presence.
Having a neutral stance on Kojima, meaning I won't deify everything he touches, I don't find anything wrong with this review. It's very coherent, unbiased and objective to me, if all the things talked about are really like this in the game, then the game does look very disappointing. Did the 19k people who disliked this, did so because they didn't like the review structure or did so because of a childish belief that Kojima didn't do anything bad? Because all I see are immature reactions to something you still have no clue about, the game isn't out for the rest of the world.
Why would you ask if Kojima did something bad? Maybe DeathStranding isn't for everyone (different taste or preference), but you can't say Kojima did something bad. What you can call "doing something bad" is Fallout 76.
How will you know until you play it? Lmao people agreeing with the review have yet to play the game themselves. Not all of us have the attention span of a goldfish and can actually tolerate walking here and there.
is that why he never mentions the story, characters, writing, ect? its a GAME yes but this isnt the 80s where you insert a coin and press some buttons to have "fun". games arent just games anymore. some of us like games that are like movies. not every game has to be fortnite
Maybe cause I've never been a speed runner, barely did as a kid even, unless I was playing Mario, or Sonic..... but I was more of a zelda guy....I like taking my time, playing as slow as possible appreciating the world, the graphics, embodiing myself in the character, immersing myself as much as possible, using my imagination as much as I can... If I were to run through I would miss so many things. Not one negative thing talked about in this review scares me about getting the game, only excites me... The dread of walking, delivering, returning, delevering, fight, sneak, walk, repeat.. excites me... it captures the world of Death Stranding.... the loneliness, the life he lives... the games supposed to be a dreadful world, where he's basically a slave to restore the world... I can't wait to feel alone, walking for hundreds of miles, avoiding BTs, avoiding human camps, trying to get the job done... it will feel lonely, and sad which adds to, and brings out the very intriguing story in gameplay, I honestly never expecting much more than this.... I'm psyched for one.
Birger Wessel Because Imagine: Party Babyz is better than this game and Godhand. And Death Stranding is apparently only a little bit better than Metal Gear Survive. I don’t think anyone here played Metal Gear Survive because it’s such a horrible slog to play. Imagine complaining about Death Stranding’s opening when Survive throws 10 at you at once, then each expository conversation is a 3 minute cutscene and then there’s the robot telling you to eat and drink. Every. 5. Minutes.

I think what gets people about IGN'S review is more so that there's so much hype and expectations over this game, and the many other reviews INCLUDING IGN Japan giving this game a much higher score. On top of it, seeing other reviewers gameplay comparing it to this, it honestly feels they didn't give a damn about learning about the walking mechanics that honestly won't seem too hard to get use to. Overall they once again shot themselves in the foot with this review, it doesn't seem like they tried, like they do in the past.
There are a lot of 8’s, some 10’s, a 3 and 6.8. So you’ll either like this game a lot or you just won’t. Edit: VGC changed from 4/10 to 6/10, Stevivor 3.5/10 and Powerup 3/10.
When footage of this game first started being released I thought it looked strange but still interesting. Now after seeing the gameplay it's ridiculously disappointing. It's hard to believe this is the same guy that helped make CastleVania Lords Of Shadow.

Death stranding was way ahead of time. Kojime said this game is the future. Now humanity is caged in their homes due to Coronavirus. And this hiking simulator helps us remember how walking outside was like.

The main issue here is that IGN USA is well known fans of Konami. Konami hates kojima, so ign USA doesn’t like him or his games. That could be wrong, if almost every other single review of the game didn’t put it in the 9s and called it great, including igns own international studios like ign Japan. IGN USA is the laughingstock of reviews and it’s as credible as Wikipedia.

After playing the game myself and watching this review, IGN has lost all credibility for me. This game is incredible, from the story and the characters to the cinematography and the soundtrack. Everything is so well thought-out and all the emotions are conveyed in a way I've never seen before in any other video game. It's a shame that many people seem to not be open to this kind of change in story-heavy video games yet: Where fighting and killing your enemies is not the main focus. No, sometimes it's the opposite. Because the older generation of gamers want old-fashioned, fast paced or action style games just as they are used to in the past and they don't want to "work" through games after they come home from a full time job. Death Stranding is literally the game that this generation does not want. On the other hand, this game addresses topics such as loneliness, connections and isolation which is far more important for the younger generation right now.
It’s an opinion from someone who disliked its new take on a game that doesn’t have any similar opposing kind to compare it to. If you’re here to love it caz “Kojima” or hate it caz you’re “anti-Kojima” doesn’t change that fact. So take it with a grain of salt, experience it yourself and have your own opinion on it. 🤷🏼♂️
Gonna be real honest and say I never understood why people were so hyped over this when all the gameplay indicated that the game would be a walking simulator. Well it turns out the game isn't really that but instead it might as well be called ''Apocalyptic adventures of Postman Pat, the reckoning''
Many people already pre-ordered it. They won't accept the fact that the game is trash. And again companies hire shills and media to convince people to buy what ever they invested.

It's IGN they give every COD 9 plus. Their reviews are terrible.
The funny thing is that it doesn't actually hurt the video. The RUclips algorithm will view it as more engagement and thus place it higher in the search results. Not voting and not commenting would have done more damage.

Aaron Z. Solid logic
Couldn't have said it better myself
Counter point: the game is hypocritical, anything you do accomplish is taken away for even the most basic of tasks to make the game more challenging. MGS never did this. And being creative to finish your missions actually gets you lower grades. To think that a 4x4 truck can't even manage the slightest of rocks is just poor design.

But it is..except for the terrain..in a sense

Every game is doing the same thing. For example all you do in Call of Duty is shoot people. It's a dumb way to summarize a game. This game has a lot more going for it than the review says.

For a walking simulator it’s actually quite engaging lol. - IGN
Well..... Their not wrong.
i really knew that it was going to be boring

Nah more like the review is being rather antagonistic in what they say. Cheap tactic to get those interactions.
I don't have to play it to know that this is a story based game yet the review talked little about the story
There are a lot of 8’s, some 10’s, a 3 and 6.8.
So you’ll either like this game a lot or you just won’t.
Edit: VGC changed from 4/10 to 6/10, Stevivor 3.5/10 and Powerup 3/10.
3 ?! From who?
So....like literally everything in the world?
3?! Which site??
in conclusion: it's not revolutionary like many people had hoped..
IGN gave Far cry 5 better score because that's the type of game they like play all the time
This is going to be the most polarizing game of 2019
Probably lol
Knowing Kojima he probably did it on purpose.
Mr. Snake that’s...nevermind
9/10 on GameSpot lol
Not it won’t!
For all that's said, in certain locations, BTs and the nature combined create a truly bone-chilling atmosphere.
Why is everyone mad?? This review seems fair, I can imagine myself getting frustrated too by a lot of those choises in game design
Facist
When footage of this game first started being released I thought it looked strange but still interesting. Now after seeing the gameplay it's ridiculously disappointing. It's hard to believe this is the same guy that helped make CastleVania Lords Of Shadow.
Cause Konami Treated the creator like crap when he worked for them even though he made them a ton of money. So when he teases a game for a few years entirely by him it's kind of heartbreaking if he ended up making a bad game
Because you can't criticize Kojima.

I wish he just made a survival horror game on the level of PT.
Nick Johnson exactly why
@@MakelBelieve Because the PT demo is one of the greatest survival horror experiences to date, and I want to see what Kojima could do with an entire game, rather than a demo.
Right.
@@nickjohnson398 you know that the demo had nothing to do with the final game right?. If you spected that first person gameplay. than you are hyped for a game that Never intended to be like that demo. Oh, and, it was a playable teaser. Not a demo.
@@ameliekeen4241 I am aware of this. I am simply expressing my desire for a full length first person survival horror game made by Kojima. What he did with a short demo in 2014 was incredible, and I want to experience what he could do with a 2019 full-length game in the same style.
This game was just a test of loyalty to the cult of Kojima. Judging from the dislikes he made his point.

Death stranding was way ahead of time. Kojime said this game is the future. Now humanity is caged in their homes due to Coronavirus. And this hiking simulator helps us remember how walking outside was like.
Totally agree it's like when he predicted , age of info, artificial intelligence, conspiracies and much more with mgs 2, and with death stranding he truly put his all to show how humans are socially connect and how our hearts desire to be with someone to be something a desire to connect with someone he showed in this game alas but people didn't understood this game it's sad that they do not have mind of that velocity which kojima has.
@@maskari4425 It's a garbage game...Kojima fangirls really think that making a game about going to point A from B is something new and fresh.

Btw IGN italy gave a 9.8 rating, so yeah.
I didn't expect that score. I tought a 7.5 or 8. But honestly I would rather watch a movie based on death stranding.

This game invites you to think for yourself, not just about the game's plot, but about life's values in general, and I for one am incredibly thankful to Hideo Kojima for creating what is, at least to me, a masterpiece.

I feel like this game is a generational thing. Younger generation would most likely not like it while the older ones would appreciate it more. But this game is a master piece🙌
Spot on
No, sometimes it's the opposite.
