Very interesting interpretation of this game. If this video give me some understanding of "Death Stranding", this is overstretched interpretation, but overstretching is legitimate things to do in many cases. As such I think this is very good overstretched interpretation.
lol, one time, my mom sent me a dresser set and ups delivered it to me broken up into pieces. When i opened the package and saw all of the damage, I was like: "Damn, did the guy enter a destruction derby competition before he got to my apartment or something?" 😂😂😂
I’m not going to lie but after seeing the mixed reviews I went in skeptical and having played the game for the first few hours it felt overwhelming and felt like I was doing boring chores. But it started growing on me bit by bit and once I understood the foundation of the gameplay mechanics it hooked me like no other game did and before I knew it I became addicted to it. It’s very hard to explain this feeling without sounding stupid or crazy.
Nah, Stardew valley is fun and you can get plenty done without having to worry if your package is going to make it thru the timefall rape or if you’ll have enough time between BTs to fix said fucked up package...
Dude I feel the same way, but I didn't take the leap. My brother got it as a Christmas gift for me, knowing how much I love Metal Gear. Now I'm at chapter 4 and having a damn blast. I can't explain it to any of my friends though when they see me playing it.
N4zmul dude it took me right from the start. I just finished it about 3 hours ago and oh my fucking god it was so goddamn good. I walked everywhere it was so immersive.
I perfectly understand what you mean man. No other game has ever in my entire gaming life made simply walking and exploring the map(s) so immersive and enjoyable
It's irritating. This game, like all games, is a piece of art( whether your a fan of it or not). I can totally get why some are turned off by the game, I'm not sure even I would enjoy it. But it's opening up some interesting discussion which I think is a good thing. But this is the internet and people treat their subjective opinion regardless of which side their on an an objective truth. It's art, if you don't like it, move on with your life. If you do like it, cool, don't waste your time arguing and trying to change other people's minds.
yeah everyone used to get their panties in a bunch whenever someone called it a walking simulator, but now in retrospect it's obvious that it wasn't that farfetched of a statement
Art > Cloning. It's definitely an original looking experience, like I would expect from an artist like Kojima. I hope more studios give creative control to the artists rather than the capitalists in this way 😎
More likely, he was playing Paperboy the other day and wondered to himself, "Where's the deconstruction of class-ism in America via the mighty right arm of the proletariat, smashing the system with deadly volleys of pulped wood through gentrified non-subscriber houses as well as challenging their bourgeois ideals with rising scientific literature until the advent of the Internet leads to the death of print journalism, stranding the paperboy in a perverse mirror of daily news past....
Finally beat it, just want to thank everyone for helping me through out my journey in the game, your ladders, trikes, charging towers, those time fall covers that restore your cargo, specially in the snowy part near Heartman's house, you know the area 👍👍
Sad part is people will actually believe him lol the guy can do no wrong in their eyes. That's exactly why I wasn't on Kojima's side back in 2015 when he fell out with Konami, not that I was on their side either .
@@de_dustybones Did I say he made bad games? No, I said that people (like you apparantly) will blindly support him no matter what. MGSV, while a very good game, was a massive disappointment at the same time, and some had the nerve to blame its shortcomings on Konami when its 100% Kojima to blame. He's nowhere near as golden as you guys make him out to be, and he most certaintly doesn't deserve this godly treatment you fan(atic)s give him. The whole Kojima/Konami debacle strongly proved how people will blindly suck Kojima off like he can do no wrong, and there's evidence he was in the wrong with that whole thing. Speaking of, it was clear that some of the MGSV reviews were blind support but with Death Stranding, the reviews overall are mixed, so lets see how this game which some prob still think is Silent Hills will turn out. Didn't look bad to me overall, but that doesn't mean anything lol

dragontyron add on top that you and other players can make the trip easier by putting up instillations in key parts of the world (when connected online if I understood correctly). +[Victor Kurske] Republicans have fractured America far more than Democrats ever will. Also, you know, fighting for regular people tends to be a thing that brings a nation together, whereas fighting for the elites and trying to create a Fascist State does the exact opposite. So, assuming an actual Progressive wins in 2020, as opposed to one of the Corporate Democrats, I think we'll see something more akin to what I imagine the end of DS to be, as opposed to the beginning. Other interesting thing to note: Kojima began producing this game in 2016 or 2017. Now, Yong mentioned that much of the themes are probably related to Kojima's own sense of loss and isolation, followed by connecting with people and getting back on his feet..... but given that the game is set in the United States and given that the Main Character has the same name as Ultimate United States Mascot Uncle Sam, I would be positively shocked if the 2016 Election, and who ended up winning it, had nothing to do with the conceptualization of the story.
I'm a fan of Kojima. But I'm not gonna let that give him a pass. So I was initially pretty disappointed at the game. But I've played around 30 hours..... why am I so hooked to this game? It's actually fun.....the grind is a different kind of satisfaction.

Well Yong, I've been very much on the fence about this game. I've thought it looked extremely boring, yet I was intrigued by it at the same time. I was debating on waiting for it to go on sale before picking it up, but the enthusiasm you showed during your review, and your common sense attitude while talking about it has convinced me to give it a shot. As a side note, it's not very often we get a fully fleshed out game with no "live service" BS, no predatory micro-transactions or "time savers" nowadays; so I will be more than glad to pick it up, and help support games like these, and the developers who make them.

disclosure: im still in the second map making sure to finish all the contracts and moving my resources to south knot distributions, so ive not caught up with the story yet. that said im actually loving the game, i went into this game with an open mindset knowing that i shouldnt expect this to be another metalgearsolid game, and since i come from a background of very very grindy games (many of which are building games) like ffxiv, destiny 2, the sims 3/4, anno 2070/2205/1404/1800, rust, sims city, cities skylines, farming simulator 17/19, eurotruck simulator, space engineers, etc. It was very easy for me to be able to absorb and enjoy this game since its basically a hiking version of eurotruck with light building mechanics in it that make life in the game so much easier, i spent my time dedicating resources on building 8 entire sections of road for the second map as well as dozens of rest stops for other players to enjoy and alternate routes for people to get past BT's with and i found that incredibly rewarding, i used to think that it takes a very patient person to enjoy this game, but i realized that it takes a very clever person to enjoy it, this game requires a lot of planning and foresight to work with and i love that. for example- theres an area on the second map in the northwest which is a giant crater full of BT's, most people stupidly tried to shortcut it with ladders scaling over the ruined walls only to find themselves trapped inside with a very inconvenient way out through a hoard of BT's, i instead went around the right side until i found a ruin of an elevated freeway, i placed an anchor there and a few signs to make it a bit easier, and got to my objective without encountering even one BT, after a few days i came back there to farm some sweet loot and found 3500 likes on my anchor, so i set up a rest stop there complete with a timefall shelter, postbox, sensor tower (all level 3 so they will survive longterm in that area), left a couple of floating carriers for other players to use, and even left 2 bikes hidden under the freeway to keep them from rusting. and after that i got over 70,000 likes! Just imagine it.. one well placed yet cheap anchor rope made so many peoples lives much easier.. it makes me really happy that so many people found my longer route convenient. (i will admit that my roads got me over 380,000 likes, but its not as rewarding as making a very difficult problem a cake walk, even if the roads are insanely convenient)
@Captain Blopsi _Paperboy,_ ooh, that's an old one! Hmm... _Death Stranding_ needs a Special Move that allows Sam to deliver the package thru a window ;)

Between this and the game "Outward", I'm really happy to see a slow shift in the way open world games are now presented. Like the world in itself is the enemy and your goal is to traverse it. Sure, it's a typical staple of survival games, but in Death Stranding and Outward your goal isn't to punch enough trees to magically build a house, which I always found counterintuitiv in an open world, but to travel the world. Some might find the barren world boring, but that's a better usage than the overblown maps in any Ubisoft Game. An example would be in Outward, where I spend so much time in the starting area that winter came. Leaving then my home town and my cozzy cottage, thoroughly prepared with winter gear and food (no magical stash box to access from across the world) to reach the next mainquest in the next city. It was nice backpack travel experience, where fighting is the exception. Now I live under the bridge in a tent, deep frying fish from the nearsest pond and try to raise money for a new cottage by hunting the local wildlife. :)
+[Shaman X] See, if you backed that up with any sort of point at all, or even if you didn't repeat the same thing over and over and over again, we might actually at least consider taking you seriously. As it stands, you are a pathetic little troll whose every comment just further confirms how great a game _Death Stranding_ is.
It's quite interesting for me that most of the "reviews" for Death Stranding have had little to do with the game. These reviews have actually reflected the reviewer's view of Hideo Kojima. This was a solid review and a great video as usual
You can make time, brother! It's a game that honestly speaks a lot more to you than you can express in words. The fear of being spotted, the desperation against the environment, the overwhelming relief of finding help & the determination to keep pushing on and helping everyone out (NPC and player alike) is something I have never experienced before in my life. I only got my hands on it a day ago, but I can truly say, this is one of the most extraordinary games of all time!
I never related to a comment more. Hot damn. As we age.... you're god damn right we all become impatient. It's a shame. I want the feeling of falling in love with a game again. I want to feel that the time I invest into something won't feel like a waste.
@@nosherkhan3232 Bro I still haven't finished The Outer Worlds. A 20-30 hour game, that I bought day one, and is my most anticipated game of the last several years. When you come home after working hard for 12+ hours only to end up with more adulty nonsense at the end of the day... And then you get maybe one or two days off per week, on which there is almost always something that needs done... Ultimately, I get about 2-4 hours free time per week, and I have more interests than just gaming, and I have a backlog of games that I'd love to sink more time into. I'm also not a major Kojima fan. I played Metal Gear and like, half of Metal Gear Solid 3. Basically, I got priorities. A Kojima game that took what, 3 or 4 years for him to even talk about beyond a name and Norman Reedus isn't one of them. I'll be sure to get my hand on it sometime, but I am surely not in any hurry. Oh, and then there's the part where I've already far exceeded my games budget for the year... Money don't grow on trees.
Yea me to, that OCD kicks in and until I finish every side quests I ain't touching the main story unless it forces me, but in this game it seems I will have to balance it out.

@@kadosho02 Honestly I'm just glad there actually is dialogue and cutscenes from beginning to end. I'm really hoping that's the case.
@@andrewamann8855 I'd say it's a contemplative game, and add that if they liked Shadow of the Colossus, Shenmue, Brothers or thought Red Dead Redemption 2 would have been better with less shooting, they'll probably like this one.

Yong, great review. I bought this game and absolutely loved it with a passion. Would you be willing to upload another discussion video on this? I want to hear your spoiler version of the game and your more in depth look at the social strand system.
I'm hearing nothing but good things about its story, which is what I was the most concerned about. Of course I shouldn't have worried. Even MGSV didn't feel like it was a complete waste, and Konami literally cut the narrative off midway.
One of last GOOD story writers and game designer left. He probably doesn’t let the corporate cucks in a suit and tie tell him what he has to do and when the game must release even if it’s barely working. Fuckin sick of all these Triple A companies these days making A functioning games that just look good....
A great review Yong. I finished Death Stranding with 100 hours put into the game and I have to say I loved every bit of it. It's pretty addictive if anything. I could've easily put in dozens of more hours into the game before finishing it. In fact I intend to continue playing it. Got some more people I want to max out my rating with.
All the environments are very familiar to me, I live in Ireland and even the damp atmosphere, lighting and rock formations look like me country when I travel to the rural areas.
This is interesting. He is such a highly praised name, no matter what he does it is praised. He could make a toilet simulator and fans would go, " it is not a regular flush, it is actually very detailed and intellecutal and need dynamic buttoncombos"

In an era where companies are turning to money-grabbing mobile games, I really appreciate original games like Death Stranding taking chances. Thanks, Kojima.
Gunnar Hegg based on every single special edition version of this game being sold out, and how many people are talking about it, I’m fairly certain it’s going to make a profit. Even people like you who seemingly dislike this concept will one day play it. You’ll get tired of hearing people talk about it and you’ll try it yourself.

Bropez I remember like if it was yesterday, how the Playstation's MGS serie, at least from 1 to 4, change in time. From storytelling to gameplay, music, elements, etc. (fav one is MGS4). If a Death Stranding sequel borns in the near future, maybe Kojima will make it to a more action oriented/action-heavy strand game. (This is just an speculation). Maybe revamped the gameplay a little bit, dropping that thing of cargo a bit, but retaining some cool Death Stranding actual aspects or i don't know, he'll just make some adjustments to find the best way of gaming for the players.
Wilfredo Garcia very possible. Could be a ps5 title. Probably already planning it. I obviously like action games but not more than a good narrative. Reason why i loved Detroit become human. Until dawn as well.
huskytzu Yeah, i mean, can you imagine, this time with the newly transformed, rebuild, reconstructed and fully functional UCA. It is there, when we'll see the new habitants, new towns and cities, technology, a healthy economy, a UCA full of life. Adding some old games elements like the inclusion of NPC's or new gameplay elements/aspects like how about ourselfs (the other Sam's) living in the buildings, or safe houses in-game, real time, new ways/approach to do the campaign missions/sidequests. Again, all of this, while maintaining the actual Death Stranding concept as a single player "strand game", and with a more action-packed/action-oriented game, it is possible that we will see a new and more robusted "action strand game".
He's so overrated. When you read a book, the store should grab you right from the start. You don't read on if the story sucks in the beginning and hope by chapter 3 or 4 it will pull you in cause it might be a waste of your time. The point of a video game is that it's fun and entertaining. Kojima left this out of the game. This game is trying to be different for difference sake.
@@garfunkle5447 What's fun and entertaining to you can be widely different depending on the person.. Challenging, thought provoking, immersive and unique experiences to each person.. To put it simply, I agree video games are and can be very fun. But sometimes, in fact, many times, I want something different.. I want a challenge, or a fresh experience.

Yeap, we can't deny the game has fantastic art direction, but if this game exactly as it is now had "Valve" "Ubisoft" "Konami" "Capcom" stamped on the box instead of "Kojima Productions" it would have received a different treatment.
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment. There's so much opinionated toxicity that it's just nice to see someone saying, "It's not for me, but I'm glad if it's for you." Personally, I'm still not sure how I'll respond to Death Stranding - part of me feels like I'll have more fun "watching" it rather than playing it, but another part of me really wants to try it and see if I can make the sort of connection(s) the game and its story are encouraging. And YongYea, thank you for an insightful review and all you do on your channel. Cheers everyone!
I'm honestly blown away at how much the connection aspects of this game really make the experience. You hear that and it feels like a feature that could be interesting, but you can take it or leave it. It's so important though.
Thank you for this thorough and honest review Yong! It's refreshing to hear your points and critiques as opposed to IGNs "Long cutscenes, short attention span, clumsy game"
@@danielblank9979 pretty much yep, it really buffles me how they keep making such horrible reviews even though they hire different "gamers" to review the games
IGN reviewed the game as a game; from its gameplay. And gameplay-wise, it doesn't *seem* impressive. And about "Long Cutscenes"... The reviewer wasn't complaining about long cutscenes in general. He criticized why there are so many cutscenes for something as simple as a FAST TRAVEL. And his argument makes sense. If I want to fast travel, then it probably means I want to get there ASAP. Cutscenes after cutscenes is not what I am expecting at that time.
Couldn't agree more . Some people are mad for not being liked by themselves. It's like there is no other games coming out and they don't have to play anything . Assassin's Creed , Cod and many mainstream games will be released every year but those kinda games are like 1 in decades .

So, you're becoming a MULE?
N4zmul dude it took me right from the start. I just finished it about 3 hours ago and oh my fucking god it was so goddamn good. I walked everywhere it was so immersive.

Republicans have fractured America far more than Democrats ever will.
Now, Yong mentioned that much of the themes are probably related to Kojima's own sense of loss and isolation, followed by connecting with people and getting back on his feet..... but given that the game is set in the United States and given that the Main Character has the same name as Ultimate United States Mascot Uncle Sam, I would be positively shocked if the 2016 Election, and who ended up winning it, had nothing to do with the conceptualization of the story.

disclosure: im still in the second map making sure to finish all the contracts and moving my resources to south knot distributions, so ive not caught up with the story yet.
that said im actually loving the game, i went into this game with an open mindset knowing that i shouldnt expect this to be another metalgearsolid game, and since i come from a background of very very grindy games (many of which are building games) like ffxiv, destiny 2, the sims 3/4, anno 2070/2205/1404/1800, rust, sims city, cities skylines, farming simulator 17/19, eurotruck simulator, space engineers, etc.

Hideo Kojima should just make an animated movie already lol
Isn't that what MGS4's ending is?
@@Infernape7890 Yea, lol!
He has announced his studio will now make movies.
Movies are in the slate. Kojima is crazy!!!!
Crazy delicious!
Lance Mausser he has the vision but I think Kojima wants people to experience his art rather than just watch it
This cancels out every Silent Hill “disguise in Death Stranding” theory. I hope Kojima works on a horror project afterwards.

The world was desperately needing a gritty QWOP reboot.
I'd love to see the scores someone would give this game if they didn't know it was Kojima produced.
But he did. The point is absolutely moot and there is no other developer that would have made a game like this...
10/10 Kojima senpai notice pls
4/10 Kojima not involved.

@Gunnar Hegg have you been paying any attention at all?
Gunnar Hegg based on every single special edition version of this game being sold out, and how many people are talking about it, I’m fairly certain it’s going to make a profit. Even people like you who seemingly dislike this concept will one day play it. You’ll get tired of hearing people talk about it and you’ll try it yourself.

Kojima is an innovator.. His first stealth game wasn't perfect either. But he pushed the genre to heights no other director has
Bropez I remember like if it was yesterday, how the Playstation's MGS serie, at least from 1 to 4, change in time.
I understand why a lot of people are subscribed to the mindset of "video games are meant to be fun". But in my opinion it couldn't be further from the truth.. video games can be a myriad of things... Challenging, thought provoking, immersive and unique experiences to each person..
To put it simply, I agree video games are and can be very fun. But sometimes, in fact, many times, I want something different.. I want a challenge, or a fresh experience.
Beautiful and memorable experience. A slow burn start but when it starts to burn, my god it burns bright!
Sounds like Journey. A game where you're alone, but through other people you cannot interact with, you form a bond and connections, and finish the game together.
I loved that game, but this sounds like the Dark Souls of Journey games.

nikos orf I wouldn’t even consider them gamers tbh
IGN reviewed the game as a game; from its gameplay. And gameplay-wise, it doesn't *seem* impressive.
And about "Long Cutscenes"...
The reviewer wasn't complaining about long cutscenes in general. He criticized why there are so many cutscenes for something as simple as a FAST TRAVEL.
And his argument makes sense. If I want to fast travel, then it probably means I want to get there ASAP. Cutscenes after cutscenes is not what I am expecting at that time.
