For me, I wouldn't say, screenwriting is hard, but challenging at times. I know when I'm in the right track when a scene surprises me, touches me, scares me, as if I was watching a movie in a dark theater for the first time. Like Oprah would say, that "aha moment." I think is Oprah who use to say that. Lol. Btw, I once many years ago wrote a script which I became so obsessed to get it perfect, that it took me two years. After that, I stop obsessing and trusting my instinct, plus never forgetting my creative writing professor's last words b4 upon graduating (Dean's List), he said to never stop writing. Always a fan F.C.
Screenwriting is a nightmare. But if you don't write, it's not like sudden, creative scenes will no longer play in your head randomly all the time... or random daydreaming will cease. Might as well write em down and hone my craft.
@Justo Mantas however for musicians (vocalists) Vocal Fry can be a very useful warmup technique. I can add a half step to a full step and a half to my lower range by warming up with vocal fry an hour or so before the gig
To me screenwriting is hard because I just want it to happen, I don’t want to sit there and type this amazing story in my head only for it to be rejected 🙅♂️. I actually think it’s a better experience to just go to the theater, watch a movie & go to sleep.
That's why i love this channel. Everytime I want to quit, these writers let me know that I'm not alone in my struggle. The love of writing, to want to create, to tell a story you invented, is a blessing and a curse.
I wanted to immediately answer "yes" to the question at the end but on deeper thought, actually no. Screenplays/ stories are just highly subjective and as we all know, you gotta have the right connections at the right time to really go anywhere with your screenwriting career.
My writing life vs. my personal life? 🤔 My schedule seems flexible. I think. Wrote a few pages two days straight after a three day break. Mind overloaded...
Books: Syd Field's "SCREENPLAY" David Trotter "The Screenwriters Bible" RUclips: Joseph Campbell "HERO'S JOURNEY" Screenwriting Software such as Final Draft, or CELTX.. Read allot of screenplays. Watch allot of movies. And most importantly SIT DOWN AND WRITE .
A lot of screenwriters and writers in general really do look depressed. Just noticed after watching one of your other interviews. Not to say this guy looks depressed but the only person who seems to like it is Richard Walter.
Cause becoming a successful screenwriter is a hard grind. It's the most difficult artistic craft to master in the world. Takes a lot of sacrifice to get to that point. Even to option just one screenplay.
There are a host of reasons for anyone... anyone... to be happy or depressed. And this is in no way absolute, but as as a writer I imagine inbetween projects can be a breather and happy place. But that doesn't last cause it's always on to the next project. Then artists (I consider writers such) tend to be perfectionists or big self critics, and that can be down-putting too. Finally just like an actor, sometimes depending on what I'm writing, I have to get into it emotionally for duration of the script. That means lots of sad love songs when writing romance or purposefully recalling hurtful experiences from your past to tap into that emotional inspiration. I believe there was a writer on Film Courage that went and worked in prison for emotional inspiration on a script. All this takes its tole during the writing process. This is why my next script is gonna be a feel good, comedic and light teen party story. Need that break.

Jamez J. the X so right. I agree.
I agree. For me the problem is when I watch a movie that moves me, it's back to my laptop w/o a moments thought.
This is a fact of all things we use, from watching movies to using an app
meg doing what on your laptop?

The only thing is hard for me is actually setting up my sets for the room
I feel relieved. I thought I was shit for writing just 3-5 pages in one whole day 😪

Does any writer think screenwriting is easy? Maybe someone who has no clue what they're doing.
Marie B or someone who isn’t enslaved by conventionalism.
The only prison is your mind.
