DJ Toomp Talks New Law For Producers to Get Paid, Why Most Producers & Artists GO BROKE + More
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июн 2024
- Interview with the legend DJ Toomp who is one of, if not, the creator of making trap beats. He has produced countless hits including many of the beats on T.I.'s first succesful albums like Trap Muzik and songs like "U Don't Know Me" as well as the grammy winning T.I. song "What You Know."
His producer credits also include Kanye West "Good Life" & "Can't Tell Me Nothing" as well as Young Jeezy "I Luv It" all which went platinum before Apple Music and Spotify streaming was a thing.
We covered a wide variety of topics in what is now our LONGEST INTERVIEW yet (lol we know its long AF y'all!)! We talked about how much producers & artists get paid from Spotify and the difference between songs going platinum now vs 15 years ago when selling physical CD's were a major part of the music industry's business model.
Carrington and Toomp had a nice convo about the good ol' days when ladies and gentleman would slow dance at the club (oh how they wish it would come back 😔😢)
**** We think the MOST IMPORTANT part of this interview is DJ Toomp's groundbreaking idea on ways for producers to get paid every time an artist performs their song at a show or concert (sort of like a government regulated tax.) This is something he also brought up at our Producer Town Hall in Atlanta. This is important because most producers have to rely on getting placements, selling beats & music publishing checks to pay their bills.
Another one of our favorite parts of this DJ Toomp interview is when we talked about poor money spending habits made by artist's and producer's who make a lot of money before really getting a financial education

i realize I'm quite off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream new tv shows online?
@Dante Billy I watch on Flixzone. Just google for it :)
DJ Toomp is an ATL legend. Originator of the TRAP sound 🙌
Would say it is Dj Paul/Juicy J but I get what you mean.
@@otterdonnelly9959 He's on the Mount Rushmore. DJ Paul/Juicy J are their own mountain. Lol. Shawty Redd, DJ Toomp, Lil Jon, and Polo are the roots of what is considered "trap music".
@@oneblood7411which is why I said I k ow what he means. Lex Luger def on it too. Arguably SpaceGhostPurrp (at least for the 2010s)
Three six mafia is the originator no one in Atlanta and it’s sooo annoying how everyone disregard their inputs. Drama boy as well he was really starting the actual trap sound
HPM Royale Na man. It is not “Totally different” I’m born and raised 1hr from Memphis TN. It is not totally different for the record
Legend of ATLANTA..his horns was always on point and smooth
This better than an episode of hip hop evolution
facts , that show decent it just feels too vague on subjects sometimes
LMAO
Never watched it, but this show taught me crazy amounts of shit. every episode i learn more
Sadly it is lol
T.I’s album “Urban Legend” is a classic 💯 because of Toomp, that album was the beginning of the sound that we here today.
Urban Legend and Im Serious is the best Tip albums.
John Kennedy you gotta throw in trap muzik.
King is better
Tory Johnson no its not.
Fuck tip he a rat
Y’all got one of the most legendary underrated producers ever on here. I’m so hype
🔱THE GREAT1🔱 Right 🔥✊🏾🔥
Big Facts! 👌🏾💯
He acknowledged three six mafia as founders of this shit and I really appreciate that!!!!!!
3 HOURS????? I’m finna watch the whole thing
Jay Peezy 🙏🙏🙏
Producergrind 2.0 THAT WAS GREAT...MORE POWER TO YOU GUYS...DIDN’T Y’ALL HAVE DRUMMA BOY ON HERE BEFORE ? IF I’M NOT MISTAKEN
@@hbonthetrack yes, probably was on their own channel that got took down
Roderick Hockaday I WAS LIKE I KNOW I WASN’T CRAZY
@@hbonthetrack naw man, u wasn't bugging lol 😂...They got some other good ones that I cant find
You fellas should really consider inviting Toomp up to your facilities more often as an "OG", guest co-host. That brotha has a shit load of knowledge & wisdom to share, especially as it pertains to the history of hip hop music & culture in general. Dope interview...and I watched all 3:18:58.

I second this
Agreed

Bruh DJ Toomp is a BEAST. His talent level is truly insane. Playing What You Know in 2020 just reminds me how far ahead of the time he was. That beat still sounds majestic. Countless hits. Always coming with big anthems and crazy with the brass. Super talented producer
very humble as well, this what makes him special.
D
Y guy
Toomp is the LEGEND that the LEGENDS brag about....
best 3 hours of my life
Astro 💯💎💯💎
damn 3 hours. did not feel that way because DJ Toomp is droppin' Facts.
Keith lol facts
Yea its a lot of jewels in here...im only 30 minutes in. I should have stayed out the comments cause 3hrs is fwm.
This interview was 3 hours but it was so good it felt like 20 mins
amon tri facts 🔥
same
This is pure wisdom.
Christopher Miller 💪💪💪
I needed this interview. DJ Toomp beats still sound like 2030.
We owe u for giving us the opportunity to sit thru the whole thing, not the other way around... Salute!!!
Underrated legend, he helped create trap music.
This DJ Toomp interview is golden and honest. I paid almost 6k for an MPC 2000 Studio Plus and a midi keyboard workstation. $1500 for a Tascam 564 4 track. That's over 7k. Just imagine how much it costed with outboard gear, microphone, etc. It was a struggle back in those days.
My Top 3 DJ Toomp tracks are:
1. TI - What They Know
2. Young Jeezy - I Luv It
3. TI - U Dont Know Me
Honorable mention: Parental Advisory - 3Bs
If y’all think that I’m gonna sit here and watch a 3 hour interview after I got 3 homework’s you’re definitely RIGHT
SteamMusic lmaoooo
noones forcing you
This show could use more OG’s, he spit a semester worth of knowledge in 10 minutes how y’all not know Jack the Rapper
Facts. LOL. Toomp was real cool about schooling em though. The best OG will give u some game and not make u feel stupid for not knowing something. This was lowkey like a masterclass in how the old generation gotta approach the new generation. Whole lotta history the new school knows NOTHING about.

Toomp is definitely dropping those GEMS in this episode. The don't quit your day job part is real! 2:34:00
This is absolutely my favorite interview on the channel. Thank y'all and DJ Toomp!
Best interview I've seen on here can't wait to yall interview Dj Toomp again 💯💯
DJToomp is a fuccin Real One 💯💯✊🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yo that part DJ Toomp said about dont quit your 9 to 5 hit hard lol I'm literally ending my internship tomorrow for my last day of work to do music full-time as a producer, artist and engineer, my internship pays well which seems super crazy why I'm not staying (it doesn't fulfill me at the end of the day), but I feel like I set up multiple leads and connections for the past several months and also can stretch rent and bills for a few months after I end this internship. I told myself if in 2 to 3 months, if nothings rolling, I'll go back to a part-time or full-time job, but at the moment I hope this music career as producer, artist and engineer starts getting some traction *edit, dont worry though because I'm all about side hustles and got a few going, but even if that doesn't keep me up, no worries I'll go back to a part-time or full-time, but at this moment I feel ready to go 100% on my music, which I never had before
LaynoProd no one gunna hate on you for doing what your heart tells you to do. Everyone is different and his times are different from ours.
I hope ur music career blows cause it will give me hope that I can do it too.
@@RapScotty thanks! I appreciate the encouragement
Hey man I did the same thing 1st of january. Got myself covered with saved up money for a year maybe even more. Going all in seeing where it ends. there is no right or wrong into this. I think DJ Toomp meant that if you are just starting out, not when you got a few years under your belt and you got your game plan ready.
Thanks for the Toomp and Ryan Leslie interviews!! I watched every second
JWSlack 🙏🙏

Side note: Someone got a million dollar deal on Shark Tank for creating a tack that keeps socks together when you wash them. Smh. What a time to be alive. LOL...
Rich A. Yep. And genius. 🤣
Definitely a smart idea cause I'm missing the other sock to 4 pairs of socks and I'm mad cause they are my favorite pairs of punisher socks lol

I'm here for Dj Toomp so I subscribed !!
Gems! Thanx fellaz!
This might be the best one ive seen so far
Toomp dropped a lot of gems. Thx for the knowledge!
He’s really right! There has to be variety and not the same sound. The industry flooded with 808’s and same sounds. Have to be the clothing store of production! #facts
That’s the key to being in the game for a long timeeee. Toomp knows that 💯💯💯
But which other type of bass can we use? 808’s been done, Sub Bass been done, Synth Bass been done, Bass Line been done, Sliding 808’s been done, Overused Lex 808 been done, Zaytoven 808 been done, Spinz 808 been done, what else can we use? I’ve been thinking about this coming for a long time! Maybe you can help me figure this one out!
@@sigbeatz6733they’ve been done but they haven’t been done by you . U need ur own flavor
I hit the bell for all notifications. Please bring Toomp back.
Thanks for the time stamps guys! Amazing interview as well! Wow 🔥🔥👏🏽👏🏽💪🏽
