Just another great game in the rivalry between UF and FSU. As an FSU fan, I had respect for Spurrier as an offensive mind, yet at the same time couldn’t stand him always whining about Mickey Andrews and the FSU defense. Spurrier vs Bowden was truly a great thing to see as those 2 coaches were at their peak in the 90’s. Mickey Andrews to me was the difference in some of those games and Spurrier always hated him because he devised the defense that gave him the most double and drove him out of his mind. Spurrier then realized they had to get tougher, so then from ‘95 to ‘97 he made sure they were a rougher team, and the addition of Bob Stoops propelled them to a National title.
VA says Big Fing Deal to this game. Far and away, when 2 college teams meet twice, the winner of the 1st game, loses the 2nd. FSU beat FL in 96 then totally got their clock cleaned in the rematch 33 days later bec they didn't come to play. 35 pt swing on what were close games during the period. Yeah, right.
At 2:04:04, Lynn Swan as the sideline reporter says a Gator player, diagnosed with a concussion, may play again in the same game. And then he jokes with Bob Griese about concussions. How things have changed since!
Back when we had a sense of just having a good time, understanding it’s okay to joke, and there’s no real harm by joking, but still saying that concussions are serious and should be taken seriously. Today, Swann would’ve been fired or seriously reprimanded for those comments. It’s unfortunate how far we’ve fallen. Everyone is just afraid to be offended. Grow up.
@nateboy1489 Today, Swann wouldn't make those comments, not for fear of being fired, but simply because of all we know about the long-term effects on the brain.
Ah, one of the better games of the series. I miss these days, when this game was for more than just bragging rights, but when both teams had a shot at the national title, and the entire national championship scene depended on the outcome of this game. This was a good game, btw.
Yeah a lot of these have been blow outs. 97 probably the best. Even though Florida won I don’t think many fsu fans would argue just based on overall game quality/stakes
I was at this game. That’s when the gators dominated the championship game in the rematch. The best rivalry ever all theses players played in high school together
This team went undefeated n the reg season but we dnt get credit for it the was 12-0 bit cuz we lost that champion chip game it dnt get counted .....but now if teams do it oh its we 12-0. Undefeated sesson what a great team this was wow GO GATORS LETS GET BACK TO THE GATOR STANDER i say it great to be a florida GATOR
UF fans know. Up until the previous year UF was usually food for FSU. Your statement holds true, in my mind because they got absolutely shellacked in the Fiesta bowl.
@@robbie192 what the F are you talking about. 1 year ago when he posted his comment, FL was FING joke of a program. So, yes comparing 2022 to 1995, FL did have a lot more talent.
I really miss these days, to me these were the days that UF were at it's very best. And as a Gator fan I realize that a lot of us want blood when it comes to FSU and they want it when it comes to our Gators. But giving the devil it's due I have to say it meant a lot more to me to beat FSU back when it mattered. Back during this time UF and FSU fought each other to decide which one had a chance and the Championship. Ya had one of if not the greatest offensive minds in Spurrier and the same on the other sideline in the deffence of FSU with Mickey Andrews. And as always Bowden's mind and style vs Steve Spurriers. On the UF side Spurrier had a QB that could have been his son in Wuerfful, and I believe the best college QB of all time. He never lost to Manning even in the pros, and I think that says a lot not to mention Wuerffuls' character and relationship with God. I know now days everyone knows about Tebo, but way before Tebo was Wuerfful. I know that a lot of people liked Myers teams but Myer never had to play the FSU teams of the 1990's. Spurrier did, and he didn't win all the games but I think he won the most important ones, and had twice the love for UF and the coaching talent of Myer. We also had walkons like Doering who came from nowhere to be one of the biggest names in college football. So to me all this just made for better years with better games. Anyway just my thoughts on it.....
@TheWakeup011 *"I thought he got complacent after winning the NC. He had a great run though."* That sounded good, until it didn't. Spurrier was so totally overrated. Then quit on his SC team. What a slug the "ole ball coach" was. * Fatman Fulmer, a losing record to 19 coaches, * Beat Goof, Donnan, Richt * Bama was a mess from 96 to 08

Last two plays on offense for Florida were the dumbest plays in a game I have ever seen....Danny almost get his hip or leg broke and a long pass when th hey need 4 yards on 4th down

That Spurrier draw play out of the I-back under center was deadly. And the talent on this field is insane

No, that was in 96-97season. after this game, UF def. Arkansas in SEC champ. Then got blown out by Nebraska in the Fiesta Bowl. 62-24.

We need Spurrier and Bowden back.

If I had to make an all Florida team, the majority of them would come from this squad. And yes, Danny Wuerffel would be my starting QB.
Hearing them mention “The Alliance” and how “The Big Ten was not a part of it”, oh how much uproar we would hear in today’s modern era.
I ordered this game on PPV, due to Ohio State /Michigan showing in St. Louis on ABC.
1:52:15 Ike for 75 to wrap up the game
24:25 J Green puts UF on the board
1:05:25 Ike for 6 again!
1:17:05 Chris Doering right before the half
Mo Collins was sensational in this game
Griese talking up John Cooper. What a laugh!!!
Do you have the 2001 game where we smashed sf 37-14??
Head football coach should have won more than 1 championship. Probably 3
Myers should have won 3
Hey do you have that 1995 Auburn game I thought that game was a great revenge game after what happen the year before.
The Florida Gators were coached by a great visionary Steve Spurrier.

Remember when the announcers were professional and cared about the game- and not about produced bits? And they showed the instant replays? Sigh
Danny Wuerffe 114 passing touchdowns
8 rushing touchdowns
Tim tebow 88 passing touchdowns
57 rushing touchdowns

Why? Seriously, I have no idea what you’re talking about.
That's the truth...he did want to go to Tallahassee

Stephen Davis played well against Florida that year on the Plains of Alabama.
Danny Kanell would not have been a good QB in the SEC. The ACC was Azz back in 95.
