@@jayzeetv If you're willing to play online there's tons of online tools! My favorite format is commander and there is a plethora of ways to play games! Prof even has a handful of videos talking about it! Nitpicking nerds, Tolarian community college, and I'm sure multiple others have a discord open with free commander play through spelltable. You can even use your phone as a Webcam to play!

@@jayzeetv I was in the same place you were. All of my friends were interested by the game but not the investment it required to build a deck. Got a few budget decks for everyone and we still play to this day. There was not as many affordable precon back in the days. Perhaps getting 4 precon and considering it a "boardgame" could be the way you get some friends playing with you
Plaza of Heroes is great in most Commander decks. I pulled one in prerelease, so psyched!! Also, good to buy soon, I think it will go up in price quick.
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 I mean it's nearly a second command tower in many decks, and that is good enough in 99% of the time, the rest is icing.
Thank god blue has a proper wrath now, they were almost lagging behind in a singular area.
It's not even fair, the opponents get bears out of my wrath? Blue really can get worse cards.

You actually convinced me to not buy packs, I wanted an expensive card from this deck but calc'd the odds after this vid and realized I wouldve lost a lot compared to just buying the card. Thanks!
I started to realize much of a different Format MTGA Historic Brawl is from actual commander. A lot of the cards that might pair well with your deck may not be available and because brawl is only 1v1 it really changes the dynamic in what you might normally consider to be a great card to a mediocre one or vice versa. I still really enjoy brawl and think its a good format it's just different and is kind of suited for matchmaking 1v1 with a random stranger on the internet.
Yeah, Commander can easily see 3-4+ turns go by while everyone sets up. Try that in Brawl and you'd better hope your opponent is thinking the same thing. Otherwise you're just dead. The lack of multiple opponents also means the threat of single turn "I Win" decks is much higher because YOU must have the answer rather than 1 of the 3 other players having the answer.
Personally, I find Brawl the most fun when both players are on something midrangey without "I win" combos or conditions that can grind. I LOVE the Alchemy Ishkanah as a commander but she dies to literally everything with more, or less, than 2-3 colors in their identity (lower is where aggro lies and higher is where multicolor combo tends to lie). When both players are on a midrangey pile of Good Cards with some durdle for setup it's an incredibly fun deck to play that can navigate really tricky board states and find a line to win.
@@krimhorn Was brawl that 60 card standard commander format where planswalkers could be commanders? If so then yeah no one likes a standard singleton format you know a rotating format it was just a pale imitation of commander. And Brawl just like magic in general is honesty more fun in a 4 way not just 1v1's
@@JohnnyYeTaecanUktena brawl and historic brawl was specifically created for magic the gathering arena and is still a 100 singleton format the differences between commander and brawl I can think of is it's 1v1 you start with 25 life instead of 40 and historic brawl cards only go back as far as Ixalan. Normal brawl only uses standard cards. But also yes a planeswalker or legendary creature can be your commander. I would agree 4v4 is probably more of a fun time but you can't really get a game of 4v4 commander going anytime literally anywhere.
@@baconbankai Historic Brawl actually allows almost every card that's on Arena. There's a separate banlist from regular Historic but that's mostly for things that fundamentally hose the Commander. Even Demonic Tutor and Lightning Bolt are legal in H-Brawl (though Bolt really should just be legalized in Historic proper).
@@baconbankai You kinda can.A good LGS has a discord app,we schedule games thru there.The ppl who frequent the shop join the discord. Getting a games is simple as "Any pods playing now?" or "I'll be in around 6 with my jank deck,anybody playing today"
As an avid BG cards aficionado I am unexpectedly excited for Tear Asunder. Despite being locked to BG+ identity it is definitely one of the best Disenchant renders lately.
The Card Kingdom improvised section gave me a distinct Rick and Morty vibe and I'm here for it. More please, it's great stuff!

You'd actually need 2 spells to loop eternal witness and visuvian diplomancy, as the stack order would be cast, create token, resolve, put spell in graveyard.
Silverback Gorilla: Great synopsis. I made a Tatyova EDH deck recently and crammed it full of big Seas Monsters. My friends were like why wouldn't you use Aesi instead and I was like I prefer the life gain, we all laughed but I notice that it's so low and inconsequential but can quickly add up. I also put in a bunch of creatures that get land into play and yet again, my buddies were like why you do that? I did that because it is another form of card advantage: play creature, creature ETB and puts land into play, that is 2 cards for 1. I can't wait to add this Silverback 'Rilla to my Tatyova deck.
I am most excited for Aether Channeler, another Blue Powerhouse, the Swiss Army Venser, another way for my deck to draw itself out and win with Thoracle or Triskaidekaphile ;p

Personally Rith was a great dragon addition, he was essential when I paired him with silverback during a few games by creating flying shield walls and gaining life

An underrated card I'm looking forward to adding to my Talrand, Sky Summoner deck is Haughty Djinn. The synergy between it discounting your instants and sorceries and growing its power as you cast them is wonderful for a blue spellslinger deck.
Since you rarely attack with Talrand himself, Relic of Legends seems like it is a pretty great include from this list as well. Talrand likes cheap spells to make drakes, so using him to get another spell out the turn he enters is great.

You know, the first time I read the Silverback, I initially read it a a Titan-like effect (ETB). Effectively, I skimmed the card lol. Now that I see it’s on creature cast, OMG! Killer card!

Timeless lotus is not 'mostly better' than gilded lotus, the latter is specifically great for creating lots of mana of one color, think firebreathing etc. or even tiple-colored mana spells in two or three colored decks.
That’s what “mostly better” is.
@@KSE828 But it's not. I'd argue Gilded Lotus is mostly better than Timeless lotus, except in some fringe use cases (in particular, some five color decks, although it vies with so much great stuff in those that it'll still be cut in most of those)

I really enjoy the search power through the new karn it helps a lot in certain situations.
I'll never be disappointed by a return to Dominaria, no matter how many times it happens. Although, they just happen to be some of the best set releases as well.
One card overlooked by everyone - the new Karn - Perfect for a colorless commander, ramp pings and more, got him in a sealed and have 80% of the cards now for the perfect artifact army underway, would love to see if you can build a Void deck 😎
@@UrsulaMajor yeah had checked with official judge, I find it a silly ruling because it doesn't have the text on it saying it can be your commander, it can be powerful as having essentially mana ramp but is limited to colorless only. As can have mana crypt or whichever was 0 cost, 1 land and sol ring and have him turn one haha

I pulled an etched foil stained glass Sheoldred The Apocalypse and Lilliana of The Veil with my first collector's booster and was very happy with my preorder.
Not a lot of people are excited about the new Karn PW, but I can't wait to put him in my Urza, Lord High Artificer deck!!🙌 His +1 and -7 ability with unwinding clock ⏰️

Rivas the Claw, and rith, Liberated Primeval were immediately slotted into my Ur Dragon deck. If I ever build for Tiamat Rivas will go into that as well.
Worth noting, Serra Paragon's added ability is a triggered ability, not a replacement effect like how a lot of similar abilities work. If you can respond to it and get the creature out of your graveyard before it resolves, you won't exile it. And the gaining life isn't conditional, so you'll still gain even if you don't exile. This works wonders with Persist/Undying stuff, where you can alternate between casting with Paragon and reanimating with the Persist/Undying trigger before Paragon exiles the creature, constantly keeping board presence and gaining life.
...Also you can play lands, Prof misspoke when he said Paragon only lets you cast things.

I always use Card Kingdom for my card ordering unless they don't actually have a card I need, but it's rare. Place the order, and just one week later at the latest I have my cards!
So this is coming from someone that is playing mostly MTGA nowadays but I feel the Read Ahead mechanic is one of the best designed mechanics they've added to the game in a while. It is fun to play with and adds a ton of choice to game play.
That Card Kingdom "ad read" was freaking hilarious. Easily the best sponsored segment ever.

one of the nonlegendary cards i was most exited to get from the set was defiler of dreams for my Donal deck because its mosty just flying creatures
Weatherlight is going to be insane in aristocrats decks, with a decent skullclamp loop you can draw 3 cards per activation or comboing with viscera seer to dig through to deck in a heartbeat
Vesuvan Duplimacy is already noted for my Sultai Mutate-Deck… this will go off hard in it 💪🏻
I also agree about having powerful cards specific to certain strategies. Not only does it keep things interesting. It also keeps prices at affordable levels since there is less demand (not a universally strong card).
100$ for a deck is not affordable even if it's considered "budget"
Aerher Channeler is the card for me. My Yarok, the Desecrated deck craves is both as a value piece and a combo piece
Prof is the only reason I still have an EDH deck. The rest of my MTG was sold for FABTCG+
Serra paragon is even better than how it’s being described. It is to graveyard exile, but in a flicker or bounce deck you don’t have to exile forever
He also said you can cast nonland permanents with it, but you can also play lands.
Serra's Paragon and blink effects will make sure that whatever you bring from the grave stays. Cause the clause is when it goes to the graveyard, not leaves play, like Prof said

I love the idea of Weatherlight Compleated as a draw engine for aristocrat decks, once you reach 7 counters on it
Is this the place to talk about the stamped Leyline Binding I opened at prerelease? That's also gotta slap in the same decks that Timeless Lotus slaps in as a 3rd copy of Swords/Path.
Defiler of Vigor is my personal pick for this set - miles beyond most of the others in the cycle as far as value goes since it permanently pumps your whole team as you plop down your green permanents (which most green decks are full of).
Some of the others hurt because of the permanent restriction (blue) or because the ability just isn't quite as good (black with a temporary buff, etc).
I want to try some of the warriors and kicker cards on Abzan colors for my 2 commnder full decks, and some new doible type cards would be cool; I am really budget.
If you like cracking packs and chasing cards, there's nothing wrong with buying boosters or most other sealed product. "Don't buy boosters" applies if you only need a handful of singles and are trying to get the best bang for your buck, but if you WANT to buy boosters, that's okay, too!
I want a whole bunch of DMU cards for various commander decks, but I love chasing cards and opening boosters. So on Friday I went to my LGS and picked up a DMU bundle (which is less value than just buying packs unless you want more lands and another spindown lifecounter, which I did want. I got a [Weatherlight Compleated], [Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim] and [Braids, Arisen Nightmare], three cards I wanted very badly. I also got about 7 or 8 different cards that will be very useful for my decks, even though I wasn't really aware of them before, so it was a nice surprise! I even got one of the pain lands for my Mardu deck.
A bunch of the remaining cards could make it into future decks, or be great for selling/trading toward other singles I need as well.
There’s a non read ahead saga from this set called Song of Freyalise it’s a green which gives all creatures a tap for any color of mana ability for the first 2 chapters and the final chapter is putting a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control as well as giving those creatures vigilance, trample and indestructible until the end of turn.
You're confusing it with Freyalise's Worldspell. That one is from Dominaria United, Song of Freyalise is from original Dominaria
Stenn, no doubt. A second Cloud Key that can sit in the command Zone and can dodge removal? Say less.
This is looking like a great set for commander players.

1. Ratadrabik is going to be a staple in Esper Zombies, Abzan Graveyard, and Orzhov Value decks as well as any 4-5C Legend Piles.
2. Aether Channeler, Ilas Il-Kor, Urborg Lhurgoyf, Shadow Prophecy all these cards are meaningful upgrades or sidegrades to existing roleplayer cards
3. I'm going to test Tear Asunder over Nature's Claim, the exile might be worth 1 extra mana and the Kicker is just gravy
4. Torsten looks absolutely bonkers in the 99. Considering him for my Mayael deck of all things just for the potential value!
5. Danitha seems solid but fair in Boros Equipment or Bant Enchantress where she can cheat the play AND equip cost of big dumb cards. You can even loot them first!
6. Dihada can just be "Create four Treasures" and people would run her, but it turns out she can also provide card advantage, defense, and life??!
7. Showcase Jhoira is so beautiful I finally broke down and bought an Ultrapro playmat after years of using a plain mat.
8. Activated Sleeper being a potential second Body Double for UB/G Reanimator is kinda cool.
9. I have a massive temptation to build Ramses despite knowing just how much hate it would draw

I have a high power Ashaya deck so I grabbed a Defiler of Vigor on prerelease day1. Honestly for my decks it’s the only card I wanted. I may build the Ramses Assassin Lord cuz I like assassin’s creed and I can make a flavor deck for it.
I think, Astor, Bearer of Blades will find his way in my Syr Gwyn Commander. He has a little tutor effect for Equipment and Vehicles and lowers the equip costs if Syr Gwyn isn't on the battlefield. Also can see him in a red/White vehicle commander. as honorable mention i would like to add Electrostatic Infantry, it could grow fast in the right enviroment.
Timeless Lotus and Relic of Legends went right into the Jodah deck I built
I already tapped a copy of The World Spell for a new Mono green elves deck that's in the works. I also would not be surprised if Threats Undetected becomes green's Fact or Fiction slash Gifts Ungiven. Yes, It's THAT powerful in theory.
Love seeing this right after buying a bundle lol. I got some pretty great cards though so it was a win!
