    Can remember being absolutely delighted when Charlton got their ground back even though I am a lifelong Spurs/Orient fan.

    Even though I'm from/living in Liverpool ... I remembered this and as a Football supporter I was "Made Up" (a positive Liverpool saying) for you ... Its always good to see fans Back Home plus I feel the same for Wimbledon fans!.

    Im a Millwall supporter but that was some watch. Lifetime ago but the 90’s were simpler times & good things happened.
    Charlton moving back to The Valley was sheer determination & having it right by all associated with them.
    Almost a triumph of Good over Evil.
    Make no mistake the Labour council wanted houses & flats on it & their pockets lined.
    Torys would have been the same especially with the location of the ground.
    The same happened at Brighton who eventually got a new ground but not exactly on the supporters doorstep like their former home.
    Fair size club Charlton are & it will be nice one day to see the dark blue & the red shirts of Millwall & Charlton in the Premier League at the same time.
    Stranger things have happened. 🦁🤷🏻‍♂️😁😁

    Goosebumps watching that, as much as they annoy me at times I’ll always love that club!

    Thanks, it took me back to 1950 and the days of Sam Bertram when I lived in The Village. He had a sweet shop around the corner from the ground. Great video, it filled a few blank spaces for me when I was living overseas. Good luck with the new owners and for the fans.

    I remember watching my team, Manchester United, play Charlton twice at Selhurst Park in 1989. The first game was on the 22nd April, a week after the Hillsborough disaster. The 2nd game was in November 1989 i think. We lost both games!! One of the programmes had pictures of what the Valley was like at the time, along with plans to return to the Valley in the near future. It was like looking at pictures of a place stuck in time. Overgrown terraces and faded sponsorship boards. A FADS sponsorship board on the front of the roof of one of the stands is 1 thing i remember.

    When did that big terrace on the side get shut down?? It wasn’t being used before they left in 1985 was it?? I know it said safety reasons but was it really that bad?? What was the total capacity of the Valley, including the side terrace, in 1985??

      As a Pompey can i went to the Valley a few times in the 70s and climbed up to the top , it was like looking at a subbuteo pitch . Think the official capacity was 75,000 . Lots of respect for Charlton fans , some great games over the years and it was an honour to be first team to visit .

    Why is the club named Charlton?

    • @Robertgregormcgregor
      @Robertgregormcgregor 3 года назад +1

      It was created by Bobby and Jackie Charlton as an experiment to see if they could make a football club from scratch that could play the way they do oop north.
