"Galaxy Quest": The best "Star Trek" movie that Paramount didn't make.
It's a great love letter to fans.
This is a quote from Patrick Stewart on it:
"I had originally not wanted to see [Galaxy Quest] because I heard that it was making fun of Star Trek and then Jonathan Frakes rang me up and said ‘You must not miss this movie! See it on a Saturday night in a full theatre.’ And I did and of course I found it was brilliant. Brilliant. No one laughed louder or longer in the cinema than I did, but the idea that the ship was saved and all of our heroes in that movie were saved simply by the fact that there were fans who did understand the scientific principles on which the ship worked was absolutely wonderful. And it was both funny and also touching in that it paid tribute to the dedication of these fans."
Need to check out Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary
Thank you I love Patrick Stewart. Legendary actor!
Well... In fact, it's more a homage, than a parody. On the other hand... Mel Brooks, punked a lot Star Wars, at "Spaceballs". And think what... Lucas and Spielberg full deserved it!
- Alan Rickman hating his character is a reference to Leonard Nimoy as Spock.
- The bathroom scene where Tim Allen gets dissed by the fans really happened to William Shatner.
- There was a real magazine article about squeezing Jeri Ryan into her jumpsuit in "Star Trek Voyager" (though in fairness, she has a LOT more to squeeze in than Sigourny Weaver)
- Tim Allen yelling at the fans is a reference to Bruce Boxleitner yelling at fans at a "Babylon 5" convention.
- Sigourny Weaver asking "Why is it always ducts?" is a reference to her role as Ripley in the "Alien" movies
- "Never give up, never surrender" is a reference to Tim Allen voicing Buzz Lightyear in "Toy Story"
- The scene where Tim Allen wants to mute the communications with Saris is a reference to the Scene in "Star Trek II" where Khan is demanding the Genesis Device.
- Sam Rockwell played Tony Stark's competitor Mark Hammer in "Iron Man 2" and the Marvel One-Shot "Hail To The King"
- Tony Shalhoub was in both "Men In Black" and "Men In Black 2"
- Justin Long was in "Die Hard 4"
- Sigourny Weaver's F-bomb was changed when they decided to switch the movie from a PG-13 rating to a PG rating
Great info. I didn’t know there was so many references.
One other thing there was a scene where Tony Shalhoub did get high but it was cut from the movie for the rating, this is why is acts stoned during the movie.
Fun Fact : When Sam Rockwell screamed when they arrrived at the ship it was ad libbed so Weavers startled reaction was genuine
They were going to make a sequel but sadly Alan Rickman passed away and they did not want to attempt one without him
Tech Sergeant Chen was always so chill because he was always stoned. 🤣 They took out those scenes to help with the rating. One other scene that was an obvious edit was when Gwen says "Well, forget that!" When they were going through the chompers. If you look at her lips, she said F**k that, but dubbed it to say "forget" that to help with the rating.
I saw the original release of this film and it had not been edited out yet, but immediately afterword's it was
@@candicelitrenta8890I can’t tell you how envious I am!
She was dubbed to say "Screw that", not "Forget that". Unless it has been redubbed later on.
@@Wishbone1977 you are correct. I was going by memory and was wrong. But same concept
"Never give up! Never surrender!"
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Rainn Wilson and Justin Long.
Casting Notes Fact: Laliari is the first main role Missi Pyle landed in a feature film. Her role was expanded after the producers noticed Sigourney Weaver was the only female main character.
Fan Boy Fact: Tim Allen admitted that he was quite star-struck when he met Sigourney Weaver, as he's a huge fan of Alien (1979). Allen even asked Weaver to sign some of his Alien Franchise memorabilia between takes. She ultimately did.
Red Shirt Lives Fact: Despite frequent whining about his character Crewman Number Six being expendable and going to die, Guy Fleegman (Sam Rockwell) is the only crew member not to be shot and killed by Sarris (Robin Sachs) during his surprise assault towards the end.
Thank you. That’s awesome.
You're welcome.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
The actor that played Mathazar made that voice up to get the part. He also created their whole character application for all of the aliens
Mathesar was played by Enrico Colantoni, who was also brilliant in the TV shows "Just Shoot Me," "Veronica Mars," "Person of Interest," and "Flashpoint."
I love person of interest!
@@couchcity Colantoni played the crime boss Elias.
The kid on the computer is Justin Long who has developed quite a career of films in his own right
Funny thing is that Sigourney Weaver who played Gwen in this was also the female lead in Ghostbusters.
She is a lot of franchises
30:03 This is the scene that caused Tim Alan to get emotional. Much of it was cut of the reaction but you know the scene. He’s a really enjoyable actor, but in that moment he was a really good actor. I can’t say great but I was impressed. The emotion was palpable.
For more good Alan Rickman, try:
"Quigley Down Under" (1990)
"Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (1991)
"Dogma" (1999) directed by Kevin Smith
The kid playing “young Laredo” is actually Corbin Bleu from High School Musical fame! Probably one of my earliest crushes.
Yours is one of the BEST reactions to this film that I have seen. You appreciated it in an appropriate way - while falling out of the couch laughing! Especially the minors bit - some people actually miss that. Also the classic Gilligan's Island sadness. Notably, you commented on the transition from the black hole to Tim Allen's eye. I don't believe anyone else ever has, and I think it one of the most creative visuals in the movie.
Great job!!!
This means a lot. Thank you!
"The Search for John Gissing" is fabulously funny: you can tell that Rickman really let loose and had a great time with his character.
This is a pre-malignancy (Cell Phone) movie.😉 Maybe if they hadn't made "communicators" look so attractive for 20 years.👍
Great reaction to "Miners, not minors!" 😂
Yeah, they really enjoyed it and it was a blast to watch. One of my favorite lines too!
In case you have not found out yet, Quellek is not that actor's only tentacled part.. I mean, technically you never saw *his* true form, but his baby that Wil Smith delivered in the back of a car was a squid baby in Men In Black.
What made this so good is that if you strip off all the comedy what's leftover is still a good straight movie. So you have a good plot to hang the comedy on.
0:53 i would like to see a first watch for you both!
Dead poets Society is a first for both. From now on we’re mostly doing first watches for both
OMFG!! LOL & LOVE on SO Many Levels !!! This Popped up on my RUclips I'm 65 yr old Super Nerd.. saw Star Trek when only 4 TV channel...BUT What me #1 like the reaction The way you react & interact with each other # & 2 BIG One RIP Allen Rickman...I met in in 1979 before I even Knew who he was...met because of Actress Lisa Eichorn....My Mom & her Mom friends ,.knew her Mom too...all worked at Dept store called Boscov''s in Reading Pa......ANYWAY...Lisa did a movie called YANKS ( oscar nom) & party at her Moms house && Alan was there....he was nice & Sweet...I remembered him because of UK accent.... Thank you so much. What a cool story!
0:24 sorta? 100% _the_ best Star Trek movie.
Well said
Don't forget Rainn Wilson (from the The Office).
The bag was another thing dropped when the switch from PG-13 to PG happened. They edited some of the scenes out, but basically...there are 2 things in the bag. 1. Snacks. 2. Weed.
As for Justin Long - I recommend watching "Accepted" with Lewis Black and Jonah Hill.
I am not sure how old the two of you are or I would recommend other films of his.
Lol we’re old enough
@@couchcity I wasn't sure. You both look pretty young. I didn't want to recommend R rated films to 14 year olds. (You do both look like you could be that young).
@@couchcity So. Drag Me To Hell, Tusk and Zack and Miri Make A Porno.
You guys are getting better at reacting each time. This was another fun one. Keep it up! 😊👍
That means a lot. Thank you
@@couchcity I could give you a lot of advice about do's and dont's of doing reactions, but this is the most important thing:
People love to watch other people react to movies they love. You don't have to love it, but you do have to "get" it. As long as you understand it, you have a valid opinion. If you ever do a reaction and don't feel like you understood it or it went over your head, I would recommend not posting it. Few things annoy fans more than reactors who don't pay attention, miss important plot, or just don't understand what is happening. Heck, do a reaction of a second viewing and post that instead of the first viewing.
I haven't seen it happen to you guys yet, but always keep this in mind - show the source material the respect it deserves, and you will never do a bad reaction.
I loved the line I was going to see if they had a pub
Well... He's a Brit...
Great reaction! I like your trend to doing great full length movies.
If you like Sam Rockwell and you haven't seen it before, watch "The Green Mile" based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
A few other excellent movies are:
"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"
"Highlander"
"North by Northwest"
"Rio Bravo"
"The Time Machine (1960 version)"
I’ve been wanting to see “The Green Mile” for a while.
Did either of these two recognize Sigourney Weaver (kickass Ripely in Alien(s)) as the dumb blond Gwen?
Young Laredo is Corbin Blue

Dead poets society is next!!
Arsenic and Old Lace is amazing.
Came here from your 300 reaction and thought I'd suggest Kickass, Dredd and Sean of the Dead if you haven't seen them already. All the best from the far north of New Zealand!
(Subbed)
I love Sean of the dead. Thank you.
Great reaction to a great movie. Keep them coming!
Thank you
Balls Of Fury
This movie almost unknown to most people and trust your gonna laugh when you watch it. Hopefully we can see your reaction for it soon 😊
Also these are my film list to watch if you're interested
Upgrade 2018
Looper
Strange Days
Dark City
Cloud Atlas
Yes i know they're all scifi because it's my favorite genre 😅
Upgrade is one I definitely want to check out.
@@couchcity glad that you know it,just 3 million dollars budget and it's better than most Hollywood made movies these days. Great example of how modern movie should be made instead of wasting 50,100,200 million dollars and the movie is not even that good. Also the director was in the first SAW movie and he definitely take some influence from that movie
Nice reaction, guys, on this awesome movie. I know only one better sci-fi/comedy, and it's an Indian movie "PK" (2012).
How many older movies have y'all seen? I highly recommend *12 Angry Men* from the 50's.
Also have both of you seen the Lord Of The Rings trilogy or Back To The Future trilogy?
Yes we have seen back to the future and Lotr. I have seen parts of 12 angry men. One film we want to watch from the 50s is South by Southwest
@@couchcity you mean North by Northwest with Cary Grant? Can't go wrong with Cary Grant. I love him in Arsenic & Old Lace, His Girl Friday and The Philadelphia Story.
Watch '
Do Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri!
We should do that one
@@couchcity also what are the chances of you doing Dear Zachary? Maybe a documentary isn’t right for the channel, but I would love to see a live reaction to that.
I’d be open to doing that. Since I’ve already seen it it’s less of a priority, getting Alexis to watch it would be great
