30 years of P&C insurance experience. I would much rather have "used" OEM parts than new Chinese aftermarket. A takeoff bed was removed from a new truck so that a different commercial body could be installed. Yours is even the correct color; so less paint work is required. I would rather have factory paint, with light repair, than to have to entire bed painted in a body shop. Body shops can do great work; but factory paint is best.

I worked insurance claims before. It is totally normal for salvage parts to be used in repairs as long as they don't compromise the overall integrity or safety of the work to be repaired. In other words, you're not guaranteed new parts.

We tow RVs and trailers, too. Sometimes we watch these videos to see what we can learn. So first, thank you for the insurance information: good to know 👍🏼. Second, our first thoughts were that the vehicle was going way too fast for the conditions, and that perhaps the 5th wheel brakes were not set up properly. Thank you for the reminders, and thank you for posting.

Yes, the fine print in your policy always gets you. The term is “LKQ”. It means the insurance company reserves the right to use parts of “ Like, Kind & Quality “. It could be New OEM, used or aftermarket depending on what’s more financially in their best interest but they do have to restore your vehicle to pre-accident condition. Glad you’re all ok. In the end it’s all plastic and metal that can be replaced. Thanks for sharing!

As an adjuster, you want to check your policy language. I've worked in Insurance over 30 years... every Insurance company outlines the parts that can be used to repair your damaged vehicle. While I have never worked for a company that requires use of "Used" parts, they have outlined aftermarket parts and many people assumed aftermarket parts are used and they aren't. But look to see if your estimates call for reconditioned or recycled parts. Also, Insurance helps put you back in the position you were in "Just Prior" to the loss. Giving you OEM parts may put you in a "better" position, so insurance will usually offset that betterment to the insured. Also, You can add an endorsement onto you policy which allows you to pay a higher premium to request OEM parts in the event of a loss.

Great information on insurance claims and policy stuff.
My wife and I just purchased a Ram Laramie 3500 Diesel Dually and Toy Hauler to haul our Harley-Davidsons around. I’m semiretired and we basically live off of my military pension.
What I’m trying to say is I don’t make much and we live off of a fixed income while trying to make it work while full time Rv’ing in the future.
I’m so glad things have settled down a bit for you and your family. I look forward to hearing news about your family and you moving forward.
Also one last thing. The food, entertainment and enjoying yourselves is a great ending to your video.

My suggestion is to not waste money on discount insurance outfits. I'm not wealthy but have always carried auto insurance with either AAA or State Farm for the past 48 years. The few times I've been involved in accidents State Farm stepped up to the plate immediately and fully. No shortcuts no stalling. Take my truck to quality shops of my choosing, get quality workmanship and parts. Claims were settled almost immediately and they'd assist in easing any inconveniences throughout the accident and repairs. AND, they never jacked up my premium to recoup the cost for repairs, regardless of fault. I've known so many people who have had to hassle and fight their insurance company over claims. As I said, I'm not rich but my premiums aren't all that much higher than the lesser known discount insurers but boy what a different service you get when you need it most! Just my two cents. MOST important is no one was hurt. Happy n safe travels ahead. :-)

Instead of laughing this child knew you were in trouble. That shows a lot of insight. I've battled Fleetwood with troubles from the very start. So many. But this is your thread. i felt the thrill of going down Wolf Creek pass once with no brakes and a 20 foot Holiday Rambler. But I hit the run away ramp at the bottom of the hill. I just had a major brake job. It looks like you damaged your slides outs all the way down that side. I can't find a follow up vid on your trailer.

The tires that come on these trucks are about the best u gonna get, I have Firestone on my 550 and they are horrible in snow. Closed shoulder tires. I saw a pretty decent Bridgestone that had sort of a open shoulder till about half tread. The Firestone I have have terrible balancing to them, some times they vibrate around 60-65mph sometimes they dont. I would not get them again. Horrible in any kinda snow or mud.

  • @960wattoffgridrv

New parts just increase your premiums. Your vehicle gets "rebuilt status" and eats all the black book value of the vehicle. For you, you're still getting your truck back in restored condition like new. But your insurance rates will skyrocket for several years. The truck is worth more as salvage than rebuilt. Don't waste your time rebuilding it unless parts are cheap. Resale?? Lucky me I'm not a ford fan. Oilfield trucks are cheap!!
