The problem is the Bree’s and Sean Payton window was dragged out more then it needed to. Once Bree’s retired and Payton walked away Mickey should have started the rebuild but he kept dragging it, made worse by hiring DA as hc and drafting horribly.

Been saying for years that loomis is a cap wizard and im hoping that he still is. People loooove to point out that were over the cap by some ridiculous number but to me (an idiot) that means literally nothing other than we're paying the most we can for the players we think are the best we can get. Loomis continues to bring in talent (that tends to be misused) and the fact that he pushes the cap to its absolute max every year is a good thing in my dumb person opinion cause i like seeing numbers go up.

Sorry maybe it’s just me but I personally like Mickey and the fact that he’s the cool calm head in the building. Patience is a virtue. Also I remember games where they were calling Mickey a cheat code when Drew Breese was completing passes to 10 different dudes a game and 8 of them were on league minimum or rookie scale contracts. 😂 We spent almost 20 straight years in the mix for a bowl. Y'know I do agree that people need to calm down about the cap, I do think we're looking at years of issues. We don't have the cap space to go out and get real high impact proven players from other teams yet which leaves us SOELY relying on the draft to give us the talent we need and the likely hood we hit on everyone is almost unthinkable. I hope we hit these picks and that the cap truly does get fixed but man the realistic look is a pretty long stretch of bad football.

It's not the cap number itself that worries me. It's Mickey's bizarre extensions and overpays. Remember the head-scratching contract Andrus Peat once got. I'm worried he'll pay Penning like he's a Pro Bowler, and give Pete Werner an extension that would make you think he's a HOF'er. Or bid against himself and overpay in free agency on the next Carr type player. That, plus spotty drafting, is the crux of the problem.

We are not going to be $60m under the cap next year. We have to restructure people this year to get under the cap which will kick some more money into 2026. We will likely sign some players. We can't really know what the cap will look like in 26 until we finish get cap complaint this year.
Most people that are actual Saints fans and pay attention, even those likely me that have been critical of Loomis, have always known that by 27 the cap would be mostly cleared up. Still likely two more years of sucking ass before we get there though.
My biggest issue is that we should have started this process three years ago. If Loomis started some sort of soft rebuild three years ago, not talking about tearing it all down. We could likely already be in good cap space. We spent three years sucking with DA only to have to suck for a another two years and hope we draft better then we have lately and get lucky with a QB.
