One thing it never shows too well in the videos is the eerie green tint that also comes with seeing tornadoes. It's is hard to describe but it's almost comparable to being in a haunted/spooky situation. The little extra that can't be explained as easy as it is felt.
Freaky as heck!
I have a decent theory about why the sky turns green, Imma put it lower under "Read more" if you want it to stay a mystery though.
The sky turns green, because much like a normal sunny day, the light is reflecting off of the water. Though in this case, the light will usually be reflecting off of both water droplets, and hailstones in the atmosphere, giving it a more greenish tint. Still scary as hell though.
Same with the yellowish color! Yellow/green = eerie!
@@CodeWolfieOG It's the light refracting off the hail, so you are correct, supercells that don't form tornadoes are often still green because they are big hailers.
That is the hail reflecting sunlight.
@11:23 its important to remember the EF rating is based on damage. The strongest and biggest tornado ever could form but if it doesn't hit anything it wouldn't get an EF5 rating.
You beat me to it
And a derecho is the same thing, it’s next to being a Tornado. It has to be so many feet wide, and length, and they do a lot of damage too!
Recky , you need to come to America in the spring and ride with some storm chasers in the mid-west😂😂 Bucket list😊
One hell of a sandblaster!
lol
Have you seen all the footage from the Greenfield, Iowa USA tornado from May 21 (?) . Reed Timmer got some insane video of wind turbines being hit and collapsing. A lot of crazy video of that one. And the damage….awful.
I live in the US but outside of where tornadoes normally happen they rarely happen here in Boston but 2 in one night almost hit me … I’ve never been so scared in my life.
I live in Pennsylvania. We just had a tornado warning a few days ago. Maybe its because we are in a mountainous area, but we don't see them often. It has been getting more frequently, though.
The poor man in Algeria, he was so scared. Who could blame him! 😰
If you’re interested, there’s a Storm Stories episode about the Moore tornado, it talks a lot about the people who took shelter beneath the overpass. Here’s the full title if you want:
Storm Stories: Shields Blvd. Overpass - OKC/Moore, OK Tornado of 5-3-99 (The Weather Channel)
I was told we have tornadoes due to driving on the right side of the road.
😅😂
No that's round abouts. 🤣🤣
Love Kansas! As a Kansas resident and a truck driver I constantly get asked about tornadoes. Basically stay calm, cool, and collected. Have a safe plan ahead of time, and grab your camera! Im 39 and only seen 2 in my life, but I'll never forget!
Mother nature is very powerful
Sweden averages 12 tornadoes a year, most of short lived and never observed.
I live south of Atlanta, I have seen a lot of tornadoes
11:05 yeah tornado EF scale isnt based on size but rather on damage ratings to buildings. you could have a giant 300 mph tornado but if it's just ripping across an open field, it'd only be an EF0. maybe an EF1 if it damaged like idk hay bales or smth
Speaking of tornadoes we had one right near us
If you want a tornado vid to react to, check out "The Jarrell Texas Tornado - The Worst F5 In History". No footage of the actual storm. None needed. It tells the story well, and you may find yourself profoundly affected. Another, with videos from the day, is "Jarrell tornado survivors remember ‘The Last F5’ to hit Central Texas, 25 years later". That storm was brutal.
Recky, the reason that big big tornado only got a 3 is that it was mostly in open country and they judge is strength by how much damage it causes. If it's mostly out in the open, it didn't cause enough damage to judge it higher.
Recky, you have to remember that tornadoes are rated by the amount of damage they cause. The largest most violent tornado can be observed in a field and receive a lower rating that a smaller less powerful tornado that destroys a lot of structures.
There were 11 tornados near Chicago yesterday, with 2 of them actually within the city limits. That is unbelievably rare.
Watch the movie “Twister”!!!
Look up raining fish
I've lived all over the USA and have seen tornadoes in all the places
That was some pretty amazing tornado footage. Very cool. Thanks Recky.
My pleasure Don!
Howdy from Texas! As a former Building Inspector. I can say that there is, already, Tornado proof structures that have been proven all over the world to consistently survive direct hits from Even EF-5 tornadoes.
They are concrete dome structures and can easily be built to just about any size from shelter size to arena size. The aerodynamic shape of the dome structure does not allow the wind any purchase upon the buildings . Because they are generally round and smooth, without any roof eves or Gables for the wind of a tornado to gain any purchase on. Tornadoes tend to simply pass right over these strong structures and do little to no damage.
But human beings are very slow to accept such a radical departure from the traditional wooden houses complete with flat walls, roof eves and gables. Everything a tornado needs to gain purchase and be able to apply tremendous pressure to. Resulting in entire houses torn to shreds or simply lifted whole from their foundations and thrown hundreds of yards away.
Dome home technologies have been around since the sixties. But because of their unusual shape and aesthetically alien appearance. Most Americans are suspicious of just how practical they are to actually have to live in full time. But more practical and sometimes more adventurous people who have taken the chance to find out. Can't say enough about how great these homes are to live in. As well as the peace of mind they give those who live in them when dangerous weather conditions develop in their areas. If it were left up to me. No other construction techniques would be allowed in tornado Alley or any coastal area homes, schools and businesses.
Concrete dome homes are not only tornado proof, but also, hurricane, flood, fire, earth quake and termite proof. What's not to like Maybe some day ignorant people will realize that a building doesn't need to be arcatectually complicated to be both beautiful and strong. And the traditional house and building designs are very popular and desired. But Dome homes and buildings can also be considered beautiful. But are much stronger, more practical, more environmentally sensible and friendly. As well as being practically bulletproof from all weather events. Then just maybe we can put some of these greedy insurance companies out of business.
You can have a collossal 2 mile-wide tornado that does absolutely no damage(thus making it an EF0), but you can have a tiny "drill bit" tornado that has winds in excess of 200mph that rips up structures and tosses cars and trees like toys that gets a rating up to EF5 after damage survey. So, just because you have a huge tornado, doesn't mean it's gonna be a huge disaster
@ 10:01 I'm pretty sure that's where I live in Colorado (San Luis Valley), although there's never been a real tornado besides maybe a EF0.
In the Chicago area on July 15, 2014 there were 14 reported tornadoes including 10 at once. That includes also straight line winds at hurricane force of 80-90 miles per hour. That means that over 1,300 square miles and a population of over 5 million were under a tornado warning at once.
@Recky if you want to see a clearer example of being in an EF4 torando, watch the footage Clem Schultz shot as it closed in on his home. When they played it on The Weather Channel, Mike Bettis (who survived a direct hit in his car in the El Reno tornado) said that Clem was "filming death."
If you haven't seen this - you'll want to. This video is shot by a man on his second floor in Fairdale, Illinois, on April 9, 2015, as an EF-4 tornado heads straight for him and his wife downstairs. When it hits, the camera doesn't die, so you hear it all. It's called: Clem Schultz records tornado that destroyed his home and killed his wife... Hope you can react to it.
Pillager was twin f4 tornados 🌪 if I remember right.
I'm in Birmingham UK.. we had a tornado a few years back, passed by my works, took the signage and frontage off the next door building too, travelled a fair way and did the same to many houses.. heard it but did not get to see or film it.
There Is a video called Tornadoes in Europe. It's a good Watch
4:55 - Storm chasers are almost always able to predict the track of tornadoes with relative accuracy due to the overwhelming majority traveling from SW to NE. Amazingly, there have only been 4 storm-related deaths recorded in the history of the profession. Tragically, 3 of those deaths were during the El Reno EF3 in 2013, which both took a weird path that swept south, then north & also accelerated dramatically as it approached the highway the chasers were using.
The upper level clouds and lower level clouds will stop going different directions, and start spinning.
I make it a policy that if I live in an area that gets EF3+ tornadoes I have a tornado shelter on the property
There's a few signs that I've been told to look out for that indicates a tornado may form. First, if your area has experienced extreme heat for a few days, and then all of a sudden the temperature starts dropping. A green tint will often be in the clouds, which is also a sign of hail accompanying the storm. Due to the pressures involved in the formation of a tornado, sudden ear aches or ear popping can occur minutes before a tornado strikes. And if you're outside and all of a sudden you realize you can no longer hear any birds or other animals you normally would hear.... go for cover. If the animals are hiding, then it's about to get real. Also, the size of a tornado has nothing to do with it's EF rating. You can have a tornado that's a mile wide, but if it stays in a field and doesn't damage anything, then it's only rated an EF0-EF1. Then you can have a small rope tornado with a tiny base that could rip a house to shreds and get an F5 rating if it leaves a clean slate in its wake.
It was crazy to hear that the US gets most of all the tornadoes in the world.
HI BOSS! Just letting you know, I still can't catch the guy at home. Most of the work is finished repairing his place, but I just keep missing him. I think its his only posted video, so maybe a small screen would be enough. Elkhorn Waterloo Tornado from Tom Adams. At least show it to Carol, you can watch it approach for over 10 minutes, then multiple cameras around his home showing the "fun". Edit- 1 of 2 videos on his channel, the other is a construction vid from 2 years ago.
I can show Carol!
Oh I forgot, the first video is the 10 anniversary of the day of the twins, I think you already reacted to that one though. As for the Dodge City one, its seems peaceful to be out in a field
I had a ef 0 come through my neighborhood a month ago , it only lasted for a quarter mile but it killed a 9 year old and injured 5 more the trees and debris are dangerous
Spring in south Ms
Fun fact, some strong tornados can literally shred people making them identifiable through DNA only. I live in Dixie Alley ( Alabama) & have many tornado warnings. I’m terrified of them.
You need to check out some of our hurricanes, they are just as bad but tons of water too!
I should probably stop watching these tornado videos since I'll be moving to tornado alley soon,Iowa where my son and grandchildren live😂
We get Water Spouts Sand Twisters Hurricanes (Tornadoes Cyclones Twisters) Blizzards Ice Storms Thunder Storms Snow Storms Earth Quakes Floods Straight line winds Up drafts down drafts every weather pattern imaginable we suffer through and survive. Nothing is shocking anymore.
I did not know "WTF" in Dutch was "WTF".
I encourage people to watch the storm chaser’s while they are live, Dr. Reed Timmer is PHD, he teaches and explains what’s going on and why! But just a warning, he get really excited and yells ,goes a little crazy when he Intercepts a tornado. There is also Conner Croft, Brandon Copic, Vince Waelti, and many more that are great chasers!
I watch them all the time. I dont record, since its licensed to another company than the chasers. And they sue people.
@@Reckyj I’m saying for you and others to watch them learn more about Tornadoes and even Hurricanes! And you are right, you can’t record to play it on your show!
Not so fun fact on the F/EF tornado rating scale, rated for DAMAGE DONE, not how strong the tornado is.
El Reno 2013 was rated EF 3, it was a 2.6 mile or 4+ Km maximum width, multi vortex, Abnormal tornado with 250+mph winds. Plenty of others just like it, stupidly STRONG but didn't do enough damage to get the rating people think those tornadoes deserve
Tornado's happen on all Continents, that includes the Arctic and Antarctic. As I said before I am a chaser( over 45 yrs.) we do not believe in radars we go by our senses, nor do we tape that is not our job, we make sure people and animals are out of harms way 9 they are our only priority. Today it has become pathetic, some chasers are just one or two people that is asking for a disaster. The drivers should NEVER have any other role then keeping eyes on the road, none of these carry medical persons on board another BIG problem. Sometimes I wonder if they are doing this for the clicks or cause they care, and people have came to the point they would rather film then take shelter. Sometimes after these stunts I wonder why I care. Maybe I shouldn't!!!!!!!!!!!
Great documentary on the science of tornadoes with decent footage of some of the big ones:
ruclips.net/video/LkSlCbrJAuM/видео.htmlsi=KzMq01qHjk4TSAR0
(Code Red: Tornadoes & Earthquakes. it's actually two episodes uploaded to the same video back to back, the first hour the tornado video.)
I think i spammed you with one of my longwinded replies sorry Recky! so this isa short one 😅
ruclips.net/video/GI6_R2bWzW8/видео.html most intense footage of a tornado.
We've been under a heat wave for about 4 weeks now, Temps. daily pushing triple digits, this next week doesn't look as bad, temps only in the upper 80's. of course here you can't talk heat without sauna like humidity, this is what really kicks your butt, sweat doesn't evaporate.
