I’m 62 years young now and as a 13 year old I attended my first ever motorbike race at Oulton Park to watch my hero Barry Sheene, the year is 1975. As I got out of the car I could smell the two-stroke smoke in the air and it was fantastic. So much so I said “fucking hell” and that’s the first time I dad heard me swear too 😂😂😂😂 Love the video guys and cannot wait see it finished.
How many racers today actually know their way around the bike. Sit on ride. Look at telemetry. The enthusiasm for what you do has no doubt helped both of you to success. Whitham and his two strokes, priceless. This was a wonderful era of racing. But then I love racing. Went to my first race early sixties. Still going.
All sidecar lads know bikes inside out. And the Irish national road racing scean the lads are the same. But yes I agree what your saying it's a dieing breed.
the enthusiasm is infectious, just brilliant and what a guy James is, good to see you getting about Lee even though it looked a little uncomfortable at times
What a fantastic project to be involved with. It's just dawned on me that there's probably people watching this who've never seen a 500 race, or seen James race. They were proper race bikes. Ah those were the days👍
Love this ! I remember they used to race 750cc two strokes, any chance you guys could resurrect one of those? Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki seemed to be the main protagonists, 'cos Honda Didn't do two strokes ( until they realised that they couldn't win unless they did ). Now that we know more about how 2T's work, you'd be able to make them easier to ride. The power band was ridiculously narrow, I'm lead to believe. "Good luck Jim..." ( mission impossible music plays...).
There is no sound like a proper two stroke race bike great to see you boys so excited getting the bike done Whit is a legend proper excited about a stud😂
I can't wait to see the finished bike and hear it being put through its paces. Great to see you in such high spirits and Whit is just a big kid around race bikes (aren't we all). I have just finished my own two stroke restoration down here in Queensland, Australia (one of them RD350LC's) and I was just as excited when it cracked into life for the first time. No doubt you will capture any track action with your bike. We're all "peaking" (I think is the term you use) to see it.
New bikes are great with all the technology they have but you can’t beat old school 2 strokes the looks and sound totally understand why you guys get so giddy. 👍
Imo new bikes aren't great with all the tech(wait until they put geo fencing on them like modern cars, guess what's coming). All the rider is doing is losing skills. Agree will never beat a two stroke for smiles per mile. Just reluctantly bought a 08 CBR600RR because replacing the RGV250P would of cost at least 2x as much. Imo the RGV250P was the best bike I have rode/owned , the Rd's LC's LC2, 500, KR1/S, RG250gamma, 500 was close but handling wasn't great. Dream bike to have sat in the garage would be a Suter 500, only 100,000 euros.
Guessed Yam France as soon as the colour came in through bubble wrap. Best 2 colours in bsb boost and Fast orange. Saw Jim's bike in speed motorcycles in Hull. .
Nice 1 Lee, Great to see you up and about again, That bike is going to be so dam good man!! cant wait to see the finished article and hear it! awesome content as always .
Brilliant vlog Lee , good to see you up and mobile. Whit is a legend, his enthusiasm is unreal ! Good luck on your recovery, can't wait to see you back racing, and cant wait to see this bike completed !👍
Great video Lee. Can't wait to hear that yamaha. Love Whit, such a funny bloke, great character, I'd love to meet him I've got his book & I want him to sign it.
That’s what I love about you two. You love what you do. The bike is looking mint. Can’t wait to see it finished. Would love to see James and your self have a spin on it . That would be the icing on the cake. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for another great episode it’s always great to see James acting like a kid in a candy store! Bike looks great can’t wait to see the completed job. Greta to see you up and walking around hopefully that brace is off soon! As for riding the 500 my vote goes to Mr. Whitman or mad mark LMAO! Hope all is well cheers from California!
Thanks for recording and uploading this. You're living my dream life! James Whitham really is IRL what you'd expect. I've read his book, it's a good read. You can feel the passion and dedication he has for the bikes through the screen. Top lads! 💯💪👍
Could watch you both all day working on these fabulous machines, ps , Spray bay 1/2 mile up the road from me, they have a great reputation! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 looks mint.
Although James raced the Harris SLS YZR500 at Macau 1992, 1992 French 500GP 9th and top privateer and the 1992 Donington 500GP DNF (clutch went). He did start practice for the 1995 Donington 500GP on a ROC 500 but had to pull out of the meeting before race day due to illness.
Brings back all the memories from back in the day...this is why we love pure race bikes... especially YZR500'S... Great work so far Jim & thks Lee for sharing.
It’s great to see Both of your enthusiasm for this bike build I can’t wait either to see the finished product 😁 Oh did I see an RD350 or 250 in one of the shots? Haven’t seen one since I sold mine in 1983 😢
Love your vids buddy. Cheered me right up. As in hospital after a heart attack. 🙏🏼 You two are like two kids on Christmas morning. That bike is going to look amazing. You got to take it on track to test it lol 👍🏼you and whit are brilliant.
so funny you like kids in a sweetshop, u like every body i no that does rebuilds, start putting parts on and not fixing them to see what it looks like, starting to look mint boys
I think you would find that it would alter the sprocket position relative to swingarm pivot, changing the mechanical grip available. This was due to evolving tyre technology
I love the way Jim plays down what he’s achieved in racing, legend 👊👊
Going through cancer and DOMINATED 1996 BSB, like Doohan 92 500cc season it should have been his.
@@zacharyradford5552 was good to watch in world supersport as well.
Good seeing James looking healthy, such a legend.
Whitham is like a dog with 2 tails when he's around a 2 stroke race bike
Or as my Grandad used to say, “As happy as a dog with two dicks and ten p*****g posts”
The better phrase is 'like a dog with 2 dicks'!

60 year old here and saw Bazza at Oulton Park at about 13 and it changed my life, still riding an XJR1300 in South Australia now
The man the myth the legend whitham. Could listen to him all day. What a man

JW you are a star, such knowledge and enthusiasm a joy to watch and listen.
Jamie Whitham is the reason i got into bikes. He never disapoints !
I could genuinely listen to Whitham all day long. Does he need a tea boy?
Whitman’s like good old Fred Dibnah but for bikes not steam trains 😂 class vid 👍
Loving this rebuild series. How excited you both are, is infectious. Good to see you both looking healthy and happy.
Always a pleasure to see whit. Love the excitement and enthusiasm.
Great work Mr Whitham and a lovely RD in the corner.

What a legend of a guy! Can't wait to see a video of the finished bike!
Your enthusiasm is infectious, good luck with everything this year, 👍
Two Strokes never get old ! they just get more expensive 😂 love it so much 👍🏻
the enthusiasm is infectious, just brilliant and what a guy James is, good to see you getting about Lee even though it looked a little uncomfortable at times
10:19: i'd love that LC - those paired curved spoke wheels made em look like they were doing thirty when they were parked
What a fantastic project to be involved with. It's just dawned on me that there's probably people watching this who've never seen a 500 race, or seen James race. They were proper race bikes. Ah those were the days👍
96 BSB was his he DOMINATED.

Love this ! I remember they used to race 750cc two strokes, any chance you guys could resurrect one of those? ROC YAMAHA, Niall Mackenzie pulled out a 3rd place finish on one at Donnington in 1993
Yeah, I was there. Foggy almost got third, but starting to run out of fuel..
Wondered where you were....Thanks!!
I think you would find that it would alter the sprocket position relative to swingarm pivot, changing the mechanical grip available. This was due to evolving tyre technology
Awesome guys cheers 👍🏻
