I never thought of mollies as being native to anywhere! Haha This is a great way to bring another part of the world into your home. Thanks
Love Speckles.
Maybe try partially burying that skull a bit? Might make it jive a little better with the 'skeleton'?
Your rack keeps getting better!
Oooo, I like it, that is a good idea!! I was trying to think what was off about it and it's because a skull would never be just sitting like that after it's been there for ages 🤣
What a lovely young lady, doing something constructive and obviously something she loves.
I agree with putting some kind of cover on the inlet. Rubber band a screen on the end. Or find a piece of pvc that'll fit the filter an make your own down pipe to add a sponge to it easier an dont have to modify your original inlet an leave it intact for future use
You have been quite the aquascaper. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Kaity.. it was nice to meet you Saturday at Pet City where I was replacing a light for my Molly tank and here you have uploaded a video for your new Molly aquarium. Awesome keep up the great content and I hope your USA trip is successful.. Joe.
It was so lovely to meet you too Joe! Thanks for coming and saying hi and thank you for the kind words 😊
I’m getting the feeling someone really may have enjoyed Florida! lol Tip on planted tanks: You can remove the aqua soil that pushes through to the foreground with a magnet ;) I think it looks great, but some folks may want to remove the tiny bits from the sand. Great video, Ms Kaity! :)
Hahaha, I need to take Jack's tips more 🤣🤣 That is definitely a pro tip! And thank you 😁 I did really enjoy my time in Florida, I'm looking forward to going back 🐊
It looks sooo good! But also, a moment for your hair!!!!😍😍😍
Awwww, thank you Tamara 🥺🥺🙏🏻
Great job...This is coming from a guy who grew up in the Glades. Keep up the drive.
Im sure you have seen this somewhere but putting the aqua soil in mesh bags makes it a lot easier to reuse the soil without making a mess! Realy cool tank 😁
Thank you 😁 and that is a good idea!! Maybe I will do that next time 👀
what size mesh?
@@rembrandtshadows I usually pick media bags made for canister filters. But otherwhise look for something that is around 1-2mm since the aqua soil grains are about 2-5mm if im not misstaken :D This can depend on what brand of aqua soil you use so check that before you get the mesh bags :)
@@goodmuffin3542 good to know! tyvm!
Love those Tidal filters. I have 6 .
They are great!! I'm really happy with them 😊
Beautiful!!!❤❤❤
Thank you 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Looks so good!!
Thank you 😁🙏🏻
If you are interested in adding more Floridian species, you should consider the Florida Flagfish (Jordanella floridae) and the Mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis).
Anyway, tank looks amazing. :)
Oooo, that could be cool!! Thank you heaps 😊🐟🐟🙏🏻
gambusia are a pest in Qld , not to be kept, if caught are suppose to be disposed of
do NOT add Gambusia, they will bully kill, and eat your mollies. A more viscious live bearer I know not. I used to catch them for fish bait and oscar food. I once put a few in my community tank and the first thing they did was kill all the other live bearers.
AWESOME JOB MAMA..everything is flowing together sooo nicely!!!! Love the crocodile skeleton element it is super cool and I'm sure... no doubt that Sparkles and her fish pals agree and are livin it up in that tank!! haha.. 😬❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤☮
Thank you soooo so much 😁🐟🐟🐊
Adorable little fish!
They are very very cute 🐟🐟🐟
Katy, I am planning on collecting exotics in Florida in about a year. I recollect that Mosquito Fish (Heterandria formosa) and Flag Fish (Jordanella floridae) are natives. I used to catch them along with Gambusia. If you like, let me know and I will catch you some natives. You are allowed to catch up to 20 fish per day. What qualifies as a baitfish (minnow) is exempt. Invasives have no catch limits. I think it could take a year for me to get over health issues, ID some good times and places for natives, and secure any necessary permits. Let me know if you are interested. btw, I live in Virginia and the local val gets up to 12 ft long. If it gets unruly learn how to give it a hair cut.
Awww yay, Speckles is one lucky molly! Love watching your vids, always some inspiration. Cheers!
Speckles sure is hahaha! And thank you, that's awesome to hear 😊🙏🏻
Great video love your channel
Tack looks great Kaity
Thank you!!
Really great KC 💞🐠🐠🐠🐠

@@Kaityscichlids 🥰🥰🥰
I think this aquarium looks amazing. I love your videos and look forward to you posting!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 😊🙏🏻
This turned out way cool! Val is one of my favorite plants and seeing the Mollies all swimming together looks rad.
Thank you!! They are loving it in there 🐟🐟🐟
Looks fun!
Lots of fun! 😊
Floating that head facing the front and changing the colour of the water is my vision of the Everglades good job on the setup👍
Thank you 😁😁
Very very stunning simple zen setup! I need a shallow
Thank you very much 😊🙏🏻 I love shallow tanks!! They are awesome
beautiful tank Kaitylove it.
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻
As a Florida native, I approve! :)
That tank looks awesome Kaity, I love your enthusiasm :) 👍👍
Thank you so much 😁😁🙏🏻
Another great video Kaity. I too love mollies, and have always kept them in my community aquarium set-ups. Always active and easy to breed, and very undemanding as long you just keep up with the water changes. Impressed with your fish rack; coming along nicely!
They are such cute little fish!! I never would have known I'd enjoy keeping them so much 😊 and thank you heaps 😁🙏🏻
Yet another great video your so awesome keep up the great work I knw the time and work it takes to have your tanks in the conditions that they are in keep doing great things
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it 😊🙏🏻
Nice setup, growing up in South Florida, I'd think some spider wood to simulate mangrove roots and tannins would finish off the setup nicely.
don't tell anyone, but I am thinking on sending her some rooted mangrove shoots.
Hi Kaity I love the way your planted mollie tank has turned out it looks amazing love your videos can’t wait for the next one to come out
Thank you so much 😁😁 I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
I quite like the croc-a-gator idea with the holy rock as 'bones'. One thought i had that might look more natural would be to use the rocks as the spine. Make a long curving line of them coming from the base of the skull. Just a thought from someone who loves fish tanks, and dead things. Haha
That is a good idea!! I definitely think that could look really cool. I didn't do the best job in executing Zach's vision 🤣 But I think it has a lot of potential
Hi kaity
I've learned something today. That is when you put ornaments in a tank the right way and they fit the theme, they aren't kitsch anymore!!(Never thought i would say that.🙄😁) I really love the alligator, it's a cool adition!! The rest of the scape looks great too, and i think it Will look even better once the plants have grown in!
Speckles is a Lucky girl and it's Nice she has some friends now. it's a good thing they have a big tank because i think you can expect a LOT of fry in the Future! 😊
Another good job over all!!👍👍
Thank you so much!! I think Speckles will be very, very happy now 😁🐟🐟 and I'm glad you like the alligator 🤣🐊 I thought it was worth giving it a go!
Put a few leaves in there for tannins or a few twigs. Born in Fort Lauderdale, it's super swampy. Father Fish does the Florida approach on all of his tanks.
That would look really cool!
I lived in Sunrise before it was developed. As a boy scout we used to go survuval camping is said swampy areas. I remeber going bass fishing near Invarary Gold Course and hooking a 4 ft tarpon in the channel!
very informative your vlogs I like this
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏻 I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Actually some snails in the tank wouldn’t be a bad idea they would keep the algae from getting to out of control and also clean up a lot of the waste from the fishies water!!! Just thought you’d like to know about having a clean up crew in there just as a second filter so to speak lol also you could add some shrimp like cherry shrimp would really pop in the tanks and or some little snails as well as dwarf Corydoras catfish would look so cool in there and would also help a lot with the filtration and the cycle as a whole would be much better but at the end of the day it’s your tanks just giving you some ideas to play around with!!!! Anyways I just love all your tanks and am really into your videos the more you expand thanks for sharing the process it’s totally cool to watch you transform the tanks!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Nice video! ☺️
Thank you 😊🙏🏻
Hi Kaity, I like how it's getting your rack. The plants and everything look so natural, so I think Speckles is very happy hanging around with her new buddies. Congrats you're close to reaching your goal of 100k subs. Have a nice week!!!
Thank you so much!! 😁 And yes, getting so close! 🤗🤗
It's been a while for me Kaity. I'm back, and I love what you do! Thanks!
Yayyy, welcome back!! 😁 Thank you heaps 🙏🏻
very beautiful, informative and relaxing channel..
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏻
Hi Kaity. I'm a Florida native and I enjoyed watching your setup, you did a great job. I grew up in North Florida and currently live in Central Florida but I have visited most of the state and seen all kinds of water situations. The Everglades does have both crocodiles and alligators, though alligators are more common in most of the state. I'm also a native plant enthusiast and teach the occasional class on the subject. While most of my plant knowledge is for dry land, one of the reasons I started aquascaping was to improve my water plant knowledge. For anyone interested in Florida plants I always recommend the Florida Plant Atlas which lists Hydrocotyle bonariensis, H. bowlesioides, H. ranunculoides, H. sibthorpioides, H. umbellata, H. verticillata var. triradiata, and H. verticillata var. verticillata as our native hydrocotyle species. Some of these are dry land plants and some of them are wet but most of them can be found around the everglades (one or two are only found close to Georgia and Alabama). The other thing is that most of Fl's fresh waters are either springs (clear to blue water) or VERY tannin heavy and look like sweet tea so botanicals and blackwater would not look out of place. But seriously, great setup!
I definitely think some tannins would look very fitting!! Thank you so much for sharing all of that awesome knowledge 😊🙏🏻
@@Kaityscichlids flroida has ~23 different biomes, so feel free to mix and match,. There is definitely a flood season for the Everglades. It is really a very wide slow moving river. March is the driest month, the water level can vary 2 or 3 ft by the season and as much as 9 ft if you get a lot of rain. Cypress trees produce knees in heavy tanin waters. I won't suggest cypress in an aquarium, but I am sure some creative person can make something for you.
Kaity, I loved raising Sailfin Mollies when I was active in the hobby, & am very happy that you're branching out & keeping livebearers :) Keep up your incredible channel!!!
Thank you so much!! I appreciate it so, so much 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻 Mollies are awesome 🐟🐟🐟
Love it! I think we have the same taste, because I found your videos when I decided to try African cichlids and I loved your Tanganyika tank so much and did a similar scape and community for mine. And when I began planning an Everglades biotope with Pygmy sunfish, you started posting these videos doing the same for Speckles. Keep up the good work Kaity!
Hahaha, that is so funny!! Great minds think alike I say 😎
I love it! normally im not a fan of tank ornaments as they tend to ruin any scape which would otherwise look great. But the skull combined with holey rock "ribs" turned out great. Looking forward to speckles updates now he has some friends
Thank you so much 😁 I'm exactly the same!! I never have tank ornaments but I thought it was worth giving it a go
Oopsie lol. Great vid just seeing how excited you are makes me excited for the vid.😎
🤣🤣 Thank you, that is lovely to hear!! 😊
great , tetras gonna be next i guess 😇in your juorney of new tanks
I live in Iceland. My mollies and platys are in tanks without heaters. They are doing great. I believe your shallow tank could do without in case you dislike how prevalent it is, visually.
Wow, that's incredible! I had no idea they could live in cool water, that really surprises me
ha! you are just reflecint the heat of active volcanos! 😁😆😅🤣🤣🤣😂😳😱💀
@@Kaityscichlids Granted, it is room temperature, but given that the weather changes four times a day, it is cloudy a lot and then the long winters, my platys and mollies do real good. Perhaps they grow a bit slower, I'm not sure, but in any event, they are healthy, strong and lively. In fact me and my two sons are setting up a "glorified" goldfish tank for two common goldfish and they will be accompanied with a few platys.
unless it gets really cold where you live, sailfin mollies don't need a heater in the tank.
the ones here in Texas live year round in the creeks outside, the temperature usually gets down to below freezing a few times every winter but doesn't stay that way for long.
rack looks fantastic !
No way 😱😱 maybe it's the balloon mollies that are more sensitive. It doesn't get too cold here in Brisbane in Winter but I've heard they don't do well if left outside here
@@Kaityscichlids so the wild mollies in the US are POECILLIA LATIPENA the mollies you see in fish stores are are from Central America...Mexico and south are poecillia sphenops and need warmer waters .
I have mollies I caught in a ditch beside a highway in Texas.
hi yah that's a awesome set up It's.
Different to I like it 👍
Thank you so much Big Roy 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻
Tip: if you leave the pathos in your filter, the roots will grow into the pump and clog it up. Hang it from the side of the tank and let the roots grow free in the tank. They will get thick enough for baby mollies to hide in.
Oh yes that is a good point!! Maybe when I add some more plants I will move it off to the side with them 😊
@@Kaityscichlids that’s the best thing about pathos. They will just hang over the side by themselves. I have to clip spider plants peace lilies or ferns in place
Looking good. You're really gonna, want to cover the intake of your filter. I use Tidals and I love them. I have a 55 on my 20 gallon long and with the substrate it was rather close to it. I ended up trimming the tubes shorter, still making sure they fit together to get the intake off the substrate. I also got some foam prefilters that fit over the strainer portion, this spreads out the surface area and makes the suction less if that makes sense. Surface area went from a plastic cylinder roughly 1 inch in diameter and 1 inch tall to a foam cylinder top of the plastic one, but it was 2 inches in diameter and almost 3 inches tall.
Watch how deep the Val is planted, it tends to get unhappy if the crown (the part where the leaves join together) is buried. Keep on putting out the videos.
Lovely tank. I would try the crocodile head in the left corner coming through the val facing forward as if it is lying in wait. Might look more natural.
That could look cool!! It's meant to be a skeleton but I could definitely put it in a more natural position
Schönes Video! Langsam füllt sich deine Garage..😂
Thank you!! It didn't take long 😂
That crocodile head is very creative
I really liked Zach's idea with the Texas holy rock as bones too. I think it just needs a bit of fine tuning but it could look really cool
Hello Kaity, your tank looks beautiful and you too.
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏻
Aren’t mollies awesome I have some myself thank you for sharing another great video ❤🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
They are so so cute!! Thank you heaps 😁🐟🐟
I like it. That Val gives it a nice natural look and what's an everglade without a croc skeleton. If I remember correctly you got a smoking deal on that tank! Seachem Tidals are pretty solid H.O.B's. Fishys look happy. Keep it up little girl your always a treat to watch. Peace!
Thank you 😁😁 And yes I got the tank for only $100 from Jack at MAD Aquariums 😱 SUCH a good deal!
I usually think plastic tank decorations in tanks are cringy, but I do like the gator skull lol.
I’m looking forward in seeing your adventures in Florida. With all my trips to Florida as a kid, I always wanted to visit the Everglades, but never did.
I'm definitely going to be checking out the Everglades!! And lol I'm the same, but I was like you know what this is worth a try 😎🐊
Well, Kaity, I like it! I love the way the jungle Val looks. It's really one of my favorite plants. And once it and the other plants start spreading and filling in your tank, it's going to take on a whole other dimension. It's nice to see that Speckels finally got some new friends to play with. I'm sure she'll enjoy that. (Speckels is a she - yes?) I would have love to see how you set up the mister/fogger, though. Maybe in another video you could circle back to that? Anyway, have a fantastic week ahead. Cheers! ~Ron
Thank you Ron!! And yes, Speckles is a she, and I think she will be very happy now 😁🐟🐟 I can most definitely do a video on setting up the mist machine! I will try make a Short on it 😊
@@Kaityscichlids Thanks, Kaity!
Hi. another beautiful tank setup everything look nice i think its just need dark color driftwood just one everything look nice 💕🐡🐟🐠
Thank you 😁😁 that could look interesting with some driftwood!
If you get algae issues, try out the Florida Flagfish!
River bottom pretty much. Check out some freshwater stiphodon gobies
Hey Kaity, great video. OMG you are gorgeous!
Awww, thank you so much 🥹🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice tank. I don't think you would encounter balloon mollies in the Florida swamps. However the "lesser" sailfin molly Poecilia latipinna is endogenous to that region. Balloon molly is a breed and possible a mix between different molly species. Personally, I prefer the native molly species.
That is the one, the sailfin mollies! These are like little chubby mini versions 🤣
I wouldn't recommend pouring the water from the cover inside the tank and also maybe rinse the roots of the plants which were bought from the shop before planting them. Sometimes they carry unnecessary snails which could mess up the aquarium.
Maybe a lil better placement of the crocodile head but loved the setup ❤️
That is a good point!! Thank you heaps 😁🐊
Actually some snails in the tank wouldn’t be a bad idea they would keep the algae from getting to out of control and also clean up a lot of the waste from the fishies water!!! 🤩🤩🤩
We had amazing fan-tail mollies where I grew up in Key west FL, but the city filled-in all the brackish ponds for mosquito control in the 1990's. Such a shame, as the mollies were all so varied and beautiful. P.S. I like the new haircut!
That's such a shame 😭 The poor little mollies. And thank you, I didn't actually get a hair cut though! I'm actually getting one next week 🤣
Kaity, lovely setup. Just worried that you didn't put any covering below the intake. mollies tend to hide during the night they might get sucked by accident. lost a molly because of that a while back.
Hello Kaity. Really Interesting.
The only thing I have seen in Florida is Alligators, Not the thing I would mess with unless I was on Dry Land & not in a Boat.
The Whole Room is Looking Spectacular & a Credit to your Work.
Love the Croc head.
Back to the USA for me this week to Dallas & hopefully this time not meddling with Storms & Tornadoes on the way in.
Thanks for this Video as it really is Super & Very Informative.
Respectfully
John
Thank you so much John 😁🙏🏻 Hopefully I'll get to see some gators when I visit there. Safe travels!!
@@Kaityscichlids i think highway 40 cuts across the everglades, with numerous small bridges. gator are all over the place, though they are often submerged and can be hard to see. I saw a recent video where someone lowered a go pro into the water and the bottom was literally paved with them, mostly ones. If you are out usa way, stop off a the monterey bay aquarium. The seals start barking at sunrise in monterey.
Awesome video! The Florida tank is coming along well, you've done a really good job on aquascaping it! The alligator skull works really well with it, like the idea of putting the reeds in as well along the back! Have you thought about adding something like some large floating plants that resemble lily pads, or even really small lily pads if you can get them, as I think that they would fit the theme really well too! Still can't get over how easy Speckles is to catch! Every fish I try and catch is a nightmare, especially Khuli loach!
Thank you!! And that is actually a really really great idea, I think lily pads would look awesome in there! And yes Speckles is so crazy easy to catch, it's so funny. Such a cute and clueless little fish lol
Put the hob on one of the ends so it "blows" the Val like it would in a river. The Val will help reduce the water flow so the fish will not have as strong a current to swim against.
I had it setup like that last time, but I put it in the middle to try to match the light being in the middle. I'm thinking I might be able to get a small wavemaker to move the Val on that end
Hi kaity! ❤
Hello!!! ❤️
This is one of the best tanks you did...
It's time to change the name to kaity's fish tanks😋
Good luck keep going...
Hahaha, I think you are right 🤣🤣 it's definitely Kaity's Fish Tanks now!! And thank you 😊🙏🏻
Hi kaity just a tip for planting you should use dirt instead of aquasoil the aquasoil will eventually come up and most plants dont like a high ph they like a ph of 7 and lower i learnt this from the king of tanks MD fish tanks.
Thank you for the tips!!
Hey you can cut the inlet tube you took off, I just used a saw with mine and then had a Dremel tool to thin out the inside of the piece I cut so it fits on the filter.
Oh that is a good idea! I might do that to try shorten it
You might want to add the filter extension back and even add a foam around it like a prefilter. Otherwise it will suck in all the baby mollies and might end up messy.
Oh yes, I didn't even think about if they have babies!! I will work something out for that so it's covered
Me encanta como eres me quedo como bobo mirando tus videos eres hermosa 😊
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏻
Awesome tank!.....(never add the water from the bag, if it's from the fish store)
Plus the ammonia in it from the fish pooping
Oh yeah good point actually, I didn't think about the ammonia
Be careful you don't burn yourself out, Kaity. A many an aquarist has by adding too many tanks. Just a friendly warning!
It's definitely important to keep a balance!
@@Kaityscichlids thats what friends and family are for! 😀😄
Your pothos is so cute and tiny. Wish mine would have stayed that size. Instead it's stem is about thumb thick and the leaves are bigger than my hand... I had no clue pothos would do that haha
Hahaha, oh my goodness!! I've never seen ones with leaves that big 😳 My ones always just get super long
in the native environment pothos grow huge, like 50 ft vines and leaves 2 ft across.
@@rembrandtshadows holy spaghetti I learned something interesting today. Thank you!!
Those filters aren't strong enough to pull sand from below but they are a great skimmer filter , i know because ive had them for years, so in other words kaity you could put your pipe back on because there is no way itll pull sand up. Did you close ur lower valve?
No, it was open! I did find a little bit of sand in the impellor. I think that because it was touching the sand some managed to get up there
🧡🧡🧡💙💙💙
😊😊😊
Thanks so much for this,me personally do not like the crocodile.
I'm not too sure about it myself, but I'll give it some time and see if I can make it look more natural maybe 🤔
Is that a 60 gallon breeder tank? Awesome setup and fun video!
The tank is actually only 25 gallons! It's 4ft but really shallow. And thank you heaps 😊🙏🏻
@Kaityscichlids wow! It looks shallow on camera but not 25 gallons shallow. That's a neat tank. Thanks for the fun videos and keep it up!
💯💯🐬🐬🐬
😊😊😊
Well done kaity looking good. But i would not put shop water into your tank thats a big No No.
i'm a little confused. I used to manage the fish department of a pet store a number of years ago. We had sailfin mollies but on the males the dorsal fin ran just about the full length of the fish. It came to almost the caudal fin. And if I remember correctly they got along in tanks with other fresh water fish but they do better and a slightly brackish water.
I believe they can live in both freshwater and brackish water 🤔
put a sponge on the inlet
I hope you don't get any smaller fish sucked into your HOB filter now that you took off the grill on the end....
Very nice apart from the plastic tat!
Shouldn't you have some kind of screen on the filter intake?
Hi Katie, have you considered Florida flag fish? They are an easy to keep colour full killifish that would go well in you tank with the mollys
I just looked them up! They are very pretty 😮 I don't think I've seen them around here before
@@Kaityscichlids they used to be very popular n the 1960s
Be sure you have some kind of strainer on filter inlets. No one likes to clean a stuck fish from an impeller...
I didn't show it but the tidal filters have an adjustable opening for the flow so you can make it so it's not wide enough for the fish to fit through
13:14 Squeee! Laila has entered the chat, pecking the mic a little...😍🥰🤩😘
She's always gotta peck the mic 🤣🦜🦜
Hide the filter behind the plants.. ⬅️
When adding substrate with sand you can also use a short of net bat to not mix all up! Why didn't you use any background such as a white or black paper?
That is a good idea!! And I kind of like the clear backs on low iron glass tanks so I don't normally add backgrounds
Poecilia sphenops is not native to Florida, I believe it’s Poecilia latipinna on the East Coast of the US
Hey Kaity, I know this is on topic but how’s your day going?🙂
It's been great, thank you! 😊
