@@Guresu After the pandemic is over, I hope you visit Hong Kong which is my mom's hometown growing up. I've been there three times in my life. (The first time I was 2 years old so I don't remember.) It's a small city. Though, I find it a struggle to walk long distance. Some areas of the city is so crowded especially when mainland Chinese come over to vacation. There are some lovely hiking trails which I only hiked with my relatives and their friends; I won't remember where to go since I followed their lead. If you walked off the beaten path (away from the touristy areas), you have many opportunities to speak Cantonese with the locals especially some of the elderly who don't know English and many signs are in Chinese so no English menus. Hanging out at a city park, I had a chance to speak with random older folks in Cantonese.
As a HKer, after what happened for the past year, it feel so great to see there are still people out there respecting our culture and language. You have great pronunciation! Keep it going!
As a HK person, I can tell you usually HK ppl or Chinese in general don’t praise others a lot, so when they do, it’s a great compliment hahaa keep it up!! You’re doing amazing

Amazing stuff. So glad I stumbled upon your channel. I'm an American Born Chinese Cantonese speaker. The fact that the waitress acted normal like nothing was unusual about your speaking Cantonese should be seen as a compliment! She started to speak to you like a native speaker! I know many folks look for extreme reactions and all (look at that fool, XiaomainNYC who enjoys calling himself a clueless white guy). But know that that isn't worth it. I spent some time in China and met those foreigners who love standing out, but no one can live like that if they really want to one day become a part of that society. If you never get accepted and continue to be just a spectacle and celebrity, it actually alienates you, exotifies you. Once you get taken in by native speakers of Cantonese, you really get to another level. That's what I'm watching for. ;)

Just came across this being a British born Chinese, I watch a lot of TVB dramas too, your Cantonese is sooooo good, I wish my children could take an interest in my mother tongue, that would be good unfortunately my kids only know the basics.
