We discovered Unknown from the same show, and later made a special 2hr trip to a record store in New Orleans so we could buy his albums and get a contact address for him. I treasure those yellowed letters Unknown sent me more than a lot of my family heirloom crap. I can still hear the weird little motor that moved the dish around to connect to different satellites.

Public access tv was a goldmine of interesting content compared with the relatively cookie-cutter unprofessional stuff you usually see on YT. You had to put more work into it and actually leave your house and deal with other people. Only the most talented, dedicated and creative and/or the most deranged would jump through all the hoops and make it to air. Unknown Hinson is a testament to that fact. You also had certain standards you had to uphold. On YT there's some fancy editing done of re- used, unoriginal (as in not owned or created by the producer) material but very little interesting original material and it's almost always made for only one reason - to get clicks. Hinson might be selling shirts and cassettes but that wasn't the sole reason for the show existing, creating the content itself was more the point with any profit (likely not a lot) existing to support the work, not the other way around.
