- The Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 has had an update. Does it make me want to own one? Let's just say that it definitely offers more than ever, but that is not say it isn't still a little too pricey for my liking. Especially when there is an Audi Q3 or BMW X1 to be had for less. With that said, the GLA 200d will appeal to Mercedes-Benz fans, especially those who want into to the SUV life but need to start at the beginning.

A 6 minute video of which half the time is spent talking about people in traffic and a little segment promoting an insurance website. As entertaining and cute as Juliet might be this is hardly a review or journalism.
@@TheAppleLoadout It's a certain kind of short and entertaining format. Doesn't make it not a review... It takes a lot of time and effort and money to regularly film cars like this. I'm sure she will grace us with long format when she makes it big.

My response was to a comment about being the best reviewer on RUclips. I don’t agree. Her short format is entertainment. That being said, what is the difference between journalism and some RUclipsr influencer producing this type of content? Observe the number of RUclipsr/influencers that attend local car launches as if they were journalists.
Pricing is just ridiculous. And it still screams “pensioner”. 😂 BMW X1 diesel is a far better buy for the price.
Nice car, but in this case it is too expensive for what it is. It’s not enough car for R1 mil and is more expensive than its BMW and Audi rivals (and they’re bigger cars)

I must say, it looks good on the outside though 👌, as futuristic as the interior looks, the built quality is not there. I'm surprised you did not talk about that😐 . All that glossy black material on the center console and on the dash, rubbish 🗑. I would buy a Tiguan for that money 💰, and go home with some change.

The price is a deterrent for this Merc, and as an entry-level "SUV", it doesn't even do any SUV stuff. Just a jacked-up A-Class. Disappointing 😞 X1 is way better.
Now define the X1. Is it really different, in a much better way?

Interior looks cheap to me, except for the steering wheel.
I had a new 2021 A200d auto hatchback, bought it new. It was the worst lemon ever. Rattles, creaky plastics, infotainment issues. Low cost indeed. The screens and ambient lights were “fun” for a month - totally unnecessary. It was just bad bad bad car. Actually a bad Mercedes. Performance was so-so. After 11 months of trying to fix the rattles and stuff, I got rid of it. I was a Mercedes fan, that car, and the rattletrap 2022 C220d I subsequently had, cured the notion that Mercedes is a premium brand.

As much as we all need to “get over it” regarding extortionate pricing, legacy auto makers need to wake up and smell the manure. Mainstream customers, where the volume sales are at, are voting with their feet. My local merc dealer (where I also service my humble Mitsubishi, mind), told me that their new vehicle sales division sold ONE new car in the whole of April. Maybe they were scared away by the menacing, black EQS spaceship thingy languishing on their floor for many months.

German makes are overpriced, but Merc is way overpriced.
I'd rather purchase a Tiguan R, instead of the GLA. The GLA is basically a Renault underneath. If I wanted a Renault, I'd go buy a Renault. That aside, the interior quality is absolutely abysmal compared to its competitors such as the BMW X1, for example. It's quite disappointing.
I was wearing shorts today in Pretoria. 🤣🤣🤣 CP is definitely not my cup of tea. Lovely review but this probably of the not so good looking Mercedes that is overpriced and will probably get discontinued because they don’t sell anymore.
My children visited Pretoria over the weekend; they are from Cape Town. Parts were stolen off their car at their supposedly secure guesthouse last night. Hell was invented in Gauteng.
Cape Town weather is always perfect; dress accordingly.
