    • @thephonecollector
      @thephonecollector 2 года назад +1

      The iPhone and Pixel both shoot with a faster shutter speed and capture great shots of kids. One of the biggest complaints of Samsung users is the slow shutter speed for moving subjects :(

    • @juliatrotti

    I am a huge fan since finding you last year. I have purchased the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I never know when to go for RAW in the photos, so this Video has helped me a great deal. I use Lightroom a great deal when taking photos with my Sony Mirrorless (thanks also for your Videos there too), so I am trying to achieve as best results as possible with this Phone when I don't have the Sony with me, and I am still finding a few issues but will watch this Video a few times to help me out. I have the same issue with the ProRes on the Video side 🙂

    Awesome video as always, Julia. I'm wondering if you've tried something other than the default app, such as ProCamera, on the 14 Pro. I'm curious if there is a difference between the images generated in 3rd party RAW apps vs. the Apple default on the phone.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! For all my phone camera reviews I like to use the default app as it's a good benchmark to have, especially the more versions of a phone camera I review! I've honestly never had a problem with the iPhone jpg processing until this 14, so it looks like I will be on the hunt for a third party camera app now to see if there is one that removes or allows you to change the amount of editing it causes. In terms of the raw file, you might be able to get better results if you use an app where you can control the actual camera settings - I will test that out soon too!

    • @michaelcliffordphotos
      @michaelcliffordphotos 2 года назад

      @@juliatrotti Thank you! Do I remember correctly that you tried both RAW and JPG on the default app? (I don't think RAW is really even pure RAW on the default app - and if they are doing computational stacking and combining, it can't be.)
      I tried a whole bunch of third party apps on my iPhone. The best one I've found to date is ProCamera. It can save in JPG, RAW, HEIF, TIF, or Apple Pro RAW, and it has much of the control that you'd expect from a DSLR or mirrorless camera - histogram, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, grey card calibration, intervalometer, various guides, etc. No aperture control though - I think the phones only support one aperture on each lens. While I wouldn't use it instead of one of my Sony bodies, it does give you far more control than the native app does...

    Great video!! I wish Apple would go back to the smooth photos it once had. I've worked with Proraws, the photos are really gorgeous, but the moment it switches to jpeg/heif, the photos are insanely over-sharpened and look artificial (something that's been happening since the iPhone 12, but the 14 suffers from it the most, unfortunately other brands apply the same), which basically forces you to almost always shoot in Proraw, because there you can pull off the ugly oversharpening, and then it can really compete with DSLRs that are much more expensive (unless you zoom in and examine the details, of course). We are in a time when you don't have to be sad that you didn't take a big camera on a long hike. So cool!

    • @authenticNL2
      @authenticNL2 2 года назад

      I guess you can always try unsharpening it but I think that jpeg look is what a lot of the public likes which is why it is the way it is.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  2 года назад

      "Better" is very subjective.. it really depends what you need the camera for. For my kind of work with portraits, weddings and fashion the R6 doesn't have enough resolution so the A7IV is my go to. I also personally prefer the lens choices and colours on Sony.

      I've only given the full frame equivalent of focal length, not aperture. With sensors this small I don't find a point in mentioning the equivalent aperture. Of course its not a true f1.78 like full frame or the image wouldn't be sharp from foreground to background.

      @juliatrotti  2 года назад

      Thank you and yes! In some of the raw vs jpg comparison photos I also noticed the raw looks like it has more separation/depth of field. My thinking is that the jpg sharpens the overall image vs the raw doesn't. So in the raw the background just looks more creamy/soft!

She is using a tool to create simple, non-complicated, but gorgeous images. The little post edition is welcome, then again one could see that it's not compulsory. The great-looking young model, as uncomplicated as a morning breeze, tops the charts. This video is about having fun under the sun, as photography was meant many years ago.

    a list of the actual equivalent (35mm) f-stop and lens length numbers for each iphone 14 pro max lens with basic conversion shared by Tony Northup, outside of the intentionally misleading marketing.
    unfortunately after so much r&d, incremental improvements and elaborate ad campaigns, it's still just a phone camera and the software can only try and mask the limits of physics. and what's most disquieting is how we allow brands to lie to inexperienced customers concealing the truth to sway their opinion with cheap marketing tricks.

    • @pkennethv
      @pkennethv 2 года назад

      Not really. Basically "no"...the one exception is Profoto has an iPhone specific product, but I don't count that because you can't use an iPhone to trigger/shoot with other strobes you might already have for your other "real" cameras

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  2 года назад +1

      My answer is pretty much the same as Poradis! I don't think there is a "proper" external flash specifically for iPhone. I know Godox also has an app and you can trigger your camera strobes with it. It's a bit buggy though and doesn't trigger every single time and since you can't control the shutter speed it tends to band sometimes as well!

Most of us already have an understanding of what JPGs are going to look like since they haven't improved much in that regard compared to the iPhone 13 Pro's JPGs. The main allure of iPhone 14 Pro's camera are the RAW and ProRes capabilities. Watching through the video it seems like we get 10 JPG examples for every 1 RAW example and you didn't even show any ProRes video. Like, who is this video even for?

    • @thephonecollector
      @thephonecollector 2 года назад +2

      That's what digital zoom is. It's cropping the area of the total sensor size. Which is why you get a much smaller megapixel output. Nokia did this with their Lumia series and the Lumia 1020. The Lumia phone sensort had very little loss of detail when zooming because of the massive sensor. Now we are seeing this good idea present on an iPhone. Normal digital zooming on a small sensor area creates noticeable degradation very quickly

    Hi Julia, great work ! I did a "model shooting review" of the IPhone 14 Pro on my channel 5 days ago, vs the Canon R5 and the IPhone 12. Feel free to come and check the video ;) (and sry, it's in french)
