Actually you can see the trajectory of the ball even if it's so fast during serves. With lots of training and experience you can do it. I played as the middle man we call it "tekong" in PH and got to the point that I can receive/catch even spikes from strikers. And FYI spikes from strikers are alot faster that serving. But my level is far from this guys in the vid. I entered regional level in PH. I don't know how it differs from other countries. But yeah, sepak takraw is definitely an awesome sport.
i think the reason why u are not allowed to lift ur foot during serve (one foot must be inside the circle) is to prevent the tekong to sort of makes a much more steeper angle of the ball to the receiving side.. imagine a tall tekong that can lift his feet high and jump during a serve ( and serve is actually done at half court lenght ).. with the max speed and steep angle, it is an easy point..before there is no such rule, but i think, when the thai's ( if i'm not mistaken, they are the first that sort of inventing the serve like we seen today ) do it, with a little jump done during the serve, it can really destroy the opponents easily.. and the govern body banned the jump ( cannot lift ur foot from the circle ) to make the sport more competitive..
The W in Sepak Takraw is not silent. It is pronounce as in the word "NOW" or "COW." The ball speed is almost as fast as in table tennis. With lots of practice, players can predict where the ball will go so they know whether to allow it to go outside the court or to try to tap/touch it.
I think you've misunderstood the rules. Or clearly the explanation should've been more detail. If your team makes the serve, your team need to be in the circle and only move once the ball cross the net. The opponent team who is receiving the serve doesn't have to be in the circle. Vise versa. You can refer to 2:34 .
Did you see the guys in pink vests? Those are the umpires. 2 at the side of the net, and plenty of them all around the court. So yeah, it's actually possible with that many eyes on the game.
Interesting fact: The ball is made from rattan, it is hard but it can bounce to a certain degree, you can hurt yourself or others if you are not careful, especially in pro league where the ball is flying at top speed, lol. These guys have developed inhuman resistance to such hits that you rarely see injuries caused by direct hits from the ball.
And yes, the sport is actually an ancient sport, dated thousands of years ago, believed to be originated from Southeast Asia.

i was a player of sepak when i was 9 i that was in the early 90's its a cool sport you don't flips and back flips like those players at the start you just need practice that seperately on your own time but its basic to know how to juggle the ball on your feet
There is actually 2 umpires one to observe the server's feet and another the serve.
Sepak takraw is sports that I like most
See the head movement of the side player when they serve. You see the head move with the serve ball then they'll jump out after the ball pass the net. See the timing of the head movement.
Here in south east Asia we play this since like 7
court is small, if you dont stay on your circle during you serving... your teammates can fake or do some tricks to distract the other team (for example.. you can run across the ball while your teammate is serving or jump almost touch the ball but not touching... just try to confuse other players... to prevent that.. )... that is why generally they use the circle and stay in the cycle.. dont move till the ball is crossing the net... but the other team doesnt need to be in the circle.
it's so hard when I played it on elementary school.. only some of my friends can play this one with rally 😂
Well, the position of the players actually different. Usually, the striker or killer will be at the right side of the court if they're facing the opponents while the setter or feeder will be at the left.

Have a look at another sport similar to sepak takraw which is called sepak tuju. Instead of using a court, its played in a circle.

3- Killer
for the rules of "until the ball has gone over the net" issue, yes its impossible to check the high speed serve like that, but for other player who cant serve like on this video, they just kick it in a normal way, at low speed arch serve.
Nice video. I get that you’re slightly confused by the “stay in the circle” while serving part, but technically speaking, as long as you’re not jumping while serving, it’s practically impossible to leave your circle before the ball pass over the net. Source; I played a bit in high school

There's a lot of good or maybe better players technically around actually, but to be at this competitive level, you need to have mentally strong because it will effect your whole performance. That's the most importance key to overcome the opponent tactic and control the game and mostly peoples lack on this indeed.

Takraw Hoop is also popular in Thailand. Don't know if Malaysia or other countries in Asia also play this sport or not?

Clarification about Sepak Takraw pronunciation.
1st word: It's Se- with the same vowel as se- in sell, then -pak is sounding like "puck" not "pack" as most of the westerners read. So the "CPAC" you guys read is all wrong.
2nd word: Takraw is Ta- Kraw not Tak- Raw. Ta- sounds like T in the word "lotus" and now the -kraw is the same vowel with awe- in awesome.

P.S. the floors are not spring loaded, if you train enough you could jump as high as them. They are trained althetes.
