The way you breakdown the components to create the whole is so enlightening. I was so overwhelmed, thinking how could I ever tackle this piece. Now, step by step, I have tools not only to create this piece but ways to develop my own pieces. You are correct, no one can make anyone learn. By demonstrating pathways to the destination you are enabling people to build their own understanding. Excellent!!!! Thank you.
My daughter and I painted this via FaceTime today. We live 1,000 miles apart, and this painting was perfect...no pressure and it turned out so cute. Thank you for your beginner watercolor lessons we can enjoy doing while catching up.
I really love this idea!! Great job! Your voice and demeanor are very calming and peaceful, I bet that you were quite successful as a teacher! I really wish that someone had somehow gotten me to spend time painting and drawing as a child because I think that with some time with it and a bit of encouragement, I could have been a little successful. But it is what it is and here I am at 72, and looking forward to your tutorials!! I love the music notes also! So glad that your channel membership is doing so well! That’s awesome for only two years! Congratulations! Please don’t go anywhere until you get to a few million! I so enjoy your projects! I would never have thought to put Robins in a Christmas tree, but you did it and it’s great! Thank you!! 💕
Hi Donna, and thanks so much for your lovely comments! So glad you enjoyed the Christmas tree full of robins! I suppose they say better late than never, although I wish I was 10 years younger and just starting the channel now. Never mind, don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. Making these videos gives my life purpose which would be sadly lacking without them. Sending you seasons greetings and best wishes for much happy painting!😀
Watching this one again, I am reminded of all the bird a day paintings we, from warm ups and practices, THOSE would ,ale adorable cut out ornaments on the tree! We were just talking about that, but birds might be perfect!❤️
Love love this painting!! I'm 74 and have never doodled/sketched in my life.....just didn't come naturally, wasn't interested. I tried your bird several times and I think I've got it...looks cute anyway. I learn a lot from you even though watercolor for me is slow going but have actually impressed some non artistic and a couple of artistic friends with my attempts. Thank you
That’s brilliant, Kathy, I’m so glad you are enjoying having a go! It’s so wonderful when you manage something new, and I think painting is a fantastic pastime, no matter what age you start it at! Have fun!!!!
Just a day or two ago, a friend suggested to me that I do something similar to this - not a Christmas tree, but a certain shape filled in with related objects. Your video will help me immensely on doing this!
I understand what your saying Di about being unable to teach, I think we copy or mimic and eventually it morphs into your own style. What you do is show us your way, its fun and uncomplicated, simple. That's the beauty of it tho, we all enjoy watching and learning from u. An idea is all most people need and a lil demo on how its done is all most of us need. Yes please, a Robin in a grey cardy hshaha so cool. Im 62 and don't care who knows it, I tell them unashamedly, brushing my grey hair out of my eyes as I jump on my motorcycle and hit the road. 🤣 maybe I'll just go and get another tat..hahaha or to the chemist for painkillers n other bits n bobs hahaha Love your channel..love your art and love your easy chat and your voice..I find it really soothing and relaxing. Thanku again for a wonderful tutorial or non teaching drawing and painting time out 🤣😉🥰
Thanks for sharing your delightful imagination, Diane!! I love watching you create. You inspire me and keep me company, too. I have no idea what "modern watercolor " means. But maybe the "best" art, is the art that brings us joy. To me, your art is joyful! Best wishes, Susan 🎨💕🐾🌻☮️🤗
Hi Susan, thanks so much for your comment! I’m so glad you enjoy the channel and I agree with you that the best art is the art that makes you smile and brings you joy. As far as I can make out, modern watercolour is simply a way to describe the kind of paintings that people do when they have very little experience. Therefore, highly simplified and more like graphic art I could be wrong, but that’s the impression I get. I like to keep in touch with the things that young people are saying, even though I don’t agree with most of it! Happy painting and seasons, greetings to you and yours!
As always, I love your style and listening to you as well. I did this sweet little card knowing my special friends will enjoy receiving them. Sketched it first, then had to run errands for most of the day. What kept me going was knowing there was something fun waiting for me at home to complete with watercolor. Thanks again!
LOVE❤LOVE❤LOVE❤ I Loved everything about this! You showing us your Process, Your Whimsical Imagination, Your Soothing Voice, your Thought Process and your Doodle Sketching! It All adds up to Quality Time spent with YOU through your channel! I really Appreciate all that you do - as I am an amputee who spends most of my days sick in bed - This is a great way to spent my time! Hugs!❤
Tried while watching, but it wasn’t what I wanted. Then I watched the rest of the video and see where I went wrong. Will try again another snowy day. Thanks for this sweet design.
Love this, Diane! I am an insomniac, and I tend to watch you in the middle of the night. Your voice is so soothing, and I enjoy your commentary very much! Your choice of color for the robins is spot on for the ones here in NE Pennsylvania. The arrival of our robins is the very first sign of Spring. Its always a game in our family to see who spots the first one to arrive...lol. Our winter favorite is our gorgeous cardinals. The bright red against the white snow is amazing! Add in some blue jays, chickadee's and some grosbeaks, and it is spectacular! Thank you for sharing your love of nature & watercolor. I am learning so much from you💜💜💜
Oh I love this. I laughed regularly during this video but burst out laughing when you commented that it's okay if we can't draw holly because holly doesn't know how to grow! I love how you scribble here, splosh paint there and voila - a delightful masterpiece! I imagine one day that might happen to me. LOL.
This Christmas tree is adorable. I'm like you I don't have an imagination as far as painting goes. For no imagination I think you are always coming up with something.
Every birthday is another year of life that we have been really fortunate to have when so many don’t , I will be 70 next birthday and don’t mind that number. Love everything you do Diane, you are an inspiration to all beginners. I think I may treat myself to that book too.
Just lovely. Getting some rain here today in Washington state and snow later this week. Love these little birds in the tree. Tried drawing a bit while you were painting. Now onto painting mine. Take care and stay warm and dry.
Nice hearing the rain Diane..... What a lovely card this would make! I had to go look at Andy Warhol's Christmas Tree... I agree with you on teaching and teachers.. i think learning to draw has to do with doing... You need to pick up a pen or pencil and draw.. and draw some more.. LOVE how you incorporate your watercolor and sketching... into something beautiful! Enjoyed this very much over coffee this morning.. Headed out into a TX cold morning to cut some wood. Look forward to that looong video you mentioned! Hugs! deb
I love what you said about teaching drawing. I am a singer and often I'm asked if I teach singing. I don't know how to teach it. I just tell them to sing, sing, sing. I think that based on what I've watched you do, it's all about continuing to draw over and over again.
In going to have a go ,I quite like this way of painting, listening to your weather it was the same here yesterday but constant ,I thought it was the perfect day to go and buy a pre loved table I spotted in the paper, it was a battle to get to this remote villlage roads flooded etc, but right in the middle of the village green was a wooden Christmas tree with bright red baubles, it was beautiful and reminded me a lot of your lovely tree ,Thank you once again ☺
I truly enjoy your art work. It makes me want to paint which I struggled with in my childhood. It was the one subject that I used failed year after year. Thank you for all the beauty you bring to my heart in your paintings. ❤️🎁😘
I love it! I’ve been watching all day and am doing it now. I’m taking all your suggestions to do whatever I want too. Thank you. BTW, I’m doing this in the middle of the night !
I found myself pointing out the stars ect, haha, love this, I'm going to have a go today, thank you so much for your tutorials, you make it very achievable
You certainly deserve 100,000 subscribers if not more, great content and I have great enjoyment and inspiration with every video you create that I have watched. ❤
Great idea and so much fun to watch you fill in the space...loved the musical notes as if the birds are singing. I kept calling out stars as I followed your brushstrokes . I will try this but first watch the video again...your process makes so much sense. Thank you.
I had such fun drawing and painting the little birds in my Christmas tree. I sadded vintage ornaments and gingerbread men to mine as well. :) Thank you for another fun tutorial!
Diane, this is such a creative and happy painting! I like what you said about learning to draw. I've mentioned several times to you that I absolutely love watching you sketch and I've learned so much by observing you. The colors in this painting are so perfect! Thank you for yet another fun Christmas card idea.
I've noticed the same thing with element paintings. I think what they're doing is showing you how to draw and paint many doodles that have to do with the same theme all on one sheet of paper. And when it's done it actually looks like a kind of completed painting. When really it's just a bunch of doodles all suspended in air. Kind of cute! But, yeah.... no composition required.
So enjoying your videos! I'm not what I call a 'natural artist' , but love being ARTY. I'm so looking forward to trying some of your ideas. Thanks you, from Worcestershire
I'm new to watercolor painting. This tree captured my heart. Having watched many of your tutorials I think now I'm ready to start. I hope you publish the downloadable sketch. Thank you for sharing.....I'm off into the world of sketch and watercolor. 🌲💗 🌲
Hi Claudette, and welcome to the channel! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video and that you’ve decided to start painting in watercolour. It’s a great hobby and a relaxing past time. I will try to do the sketch of the tree today!! Have fun!
Hi Diane, i love this little tree filled with birds and decided to pull out my watercolors after not using them for years. I did my a bit of a variation and enjoyed the process so much. No i will put in two black cats under the branches...one reaching up into the tree and the other relaxing near the tree container. I might add a couple gold balls on the floor next to them. Thank you for the inspiration. I did the three sheep flanked by the pine trees and the red socks hanging overhead. I loved the way the sheeps' body's turned out but their faces are not good. I quit knowing it wasn't charming like i wanted so i will give it another go. Not sure i want the red stockings so i think i will create more of a pinetree background and have it snowing. Wish me luck. Susan
I’ve got another book in that series 365 days of art, I love it but I don’t work through it methodically like you, I flip through and do whatever I like the look of. Phew, I'm so pleased!
I really love this idea!! Great job! Your voice and demeanor are very calming and peaceful, I bet that you were quite successful as a teacher! So so true!! I don’t think that Diane knows all of the good she does in the world! And isn’t that what we would all want to do?
Tried while watching, but it wasn’t what I wanted. Then I watched the rest of the video and see where I went wrong. Will try again another snowy day. Thanks for this sweet design.
Love this! Have already done my version of this for my daughter. Thank you 🙏
Thank you. Enjoyed that. I’ve always said I have never had any imagination too!

Your robin Christmas tree is delightful. Thank you. I’m thinking of doing something similar because it’s my kind of thing. Fun!
Go for it! So glad you enjoyed the video!
This Christmas tree is adorable. I'm like you I don't have an imagination as far as painting goes. For no imagination I think you are always coming up with something.
Thanks Patricia, I have developed ways of finding ideas which don’t come from my spontaneous imagination - takes work but it’s worth it!
Love love your work!!! This is ADORABLE!!!!

So glad you enjoyed that one! Looking forward to more Christmas trees this year!
I love your animals. I tend to draw my birds like this, especially, when I'm leaning toward whimsical pics.
I had such fun drawing and painting the little birds in my Christmas tree. I sadded vintage ornaments and gingerbread men to mine as well. :) Thank you for another fun tutorial!
That is awesome! So glad you enjoyed it, it was fun to do!

Lovely! Thanks for leading us to learn!
Our pleasure!
Thanks Diane enjoyed
This is a wonderful way to create a lovely tree. Thank you Diane!
Diane, this is such a creative and happy painting! I like what you said about learning to draw. I've mentioned several times to you that I absolutely love watching you sketch and I've learned so much by observing you. The colors in this painting are so perfect! Thank you for yet another fun Christmas card idea.
I love this so much! I just decided to make a wreath using these elements. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Fantasy tree and birds, wonderful I’m about to start but I’m going to try ribbons instead of birds? Love to watch you paint! Thanks Karen Dirmish
Robins' rapsody in evergreen fir and holly. So delightful!
Darling. I think I’ll give it a try. So cute.
Very relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing.
So fun and very cute! Thank you
I love this! I don’t know anything about painting, just what I see that appeals to me. I’m going to give this a try. Thank you!
This is absolutely gorgeous,,, I love watching you create these Christmas theme cards ,,,xxxx ⛄️🎄☃️
This is so good! I can’t wait to get on everyday and see if you have posted a new video. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!

This is such a fun painting. I can’t wait to give this a try. I love watercolor and pen.
So enjoying your videos! I'm not what I call a 'natural artist' , but love being ARTY. I'm so looking forward to trying some of your ideas. Thanks you, from Worcestershire
This is a really cute Christmas tree. I like the musical 🎵 notes from the robins song. 😊 very enjoyable!
Love this! Always need something new to try for Christmas cards, and this is perfect.
I'm loving all this Xmas winter themed videos, I'm having a go at this on my Sunday afternoon play.
Thank you Diane 😊
This was such a fun painting‼ Thank you for creating it with us‼❤
Gorgeous
Susan
Lovely ideas, Susan, it’s great to make it your very own by personalising it! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
I love all your art! I need to sketch and paint more so I just ordered the book and maybe it will help me as well. Your Lion looks amazing!
Awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful. very original. Love it. Thank you💖💖💖
Love this tree and birdies! You make this so easy for me! Thank you!❤
There are some days I feel I should do the ironing. !!! Thanks
You made me believe I could do this too
Thanks Kathy, so glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve got another book in that series 365 days of art, I love it but I don’t work through it methodically like you, I flip through and do whatever I like the look of. I didn’t know the paper was ok to do watercolour painting on, I must try it, so far I’ve just used crayons and gel pens. I love the Christmas tree picture. X
I do sometimes flip forward if the next subject doesn’t appear interesting but I’m trying not to stick in my rut!!!
This is just lovely; it reminds me of the Scandinavian work that is so pretty and popular! The Finetec gold paints are super, aren’t they?
Thanks Angie, and yes, the Finetec gold paints are marvellous!
DELIGHTFUL! Thank you.
Love this!
So glad you enjoyed it! Sending you joy this Christmastide!
Love this design, Diane!
🐦hi Diane!
I have to let you know that I was so in love with your little critters skiing that I did my own version and posted on Instagram. My daughter has a big bunny rabbit named Luna so I captioned my painting "Luna takes a holiday" and I received a big reaction from my followers ( just family n friends)

Hi Diane, I love the robin tree and I loved the painting that was under the 365 book that you said that’s neither here nor there.
Ha ha!!! Maybe I can try to do it for a tutorial sometime soon!!! It was a real brain dump to be honest!!!
Very cute, love it! ❤
