- They make it look and sound so easy, which is one of the marks of great art -- what Castiglione called "sprezzatura," or an inspired nonchalance. Or, bcause it's from the Louis book, it translates as "hot cosmology." An extraordinarily lovely interlude by the EarRegulars plus guests, performed for all and sundry (did the passers-by feel the love as they trotted by?) on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at "The Ear Out," in front of The Ear Inn, 326 Spring Street, Soho, New York City. The creators -- bless them in long meter -- are Jon-Erik Kellso, trumpet; John Allred, trombone; James Chirillo, guitar; with Rafael Castillo-Halvorssen, trumpet; Shaye Cohn, cornet, Josh Dunn, guitar; Jen Hodge, string bass. And their facial expressions will tell you their communal pleasure in the music they made float on the air. Recorded by Michael Steinman for JAZZ LIVES (www.jazzlives.w...) with immense gratitude.
Great to see Bassist Jen Hodge. She’s Vancouver bassist who seems to be taking the world by storm.
Also want to give a shout-out to Shaye Cohen for her original sound and style! And to all of the great musicians in this talented group!

Okay, this is brilliant all around -- top notch from everyone -- but Chirillo has got to be *the* master of smooth genius understatement.

Wonderful playing, guys! Big Kelso fan. Have had the pleasure of hearing him play live with The Louis Armstrong band in NYC, dating back many years. And with the great Vince Giordano & His Night Hawks at different venues in NYC, over the years. Also love this ensemble the have the talent and the love of this great, original American music of ours. Keep up the excellent work, guys!

This is my favourite rendition of this number with Shaye. Great improvisation. Never seen Shaye looking so happy and relaxed as when she is in her natural environment, hanging out in front of a jazz cafe with an eclectic bunch of talented musicians, jamming and improvising, not having to conduct a band, just playing her part. Just wow! What a talent! (Although she's also amazing when she plays with Tuba Skinny).
What a great song and what a talented group of musicians. Wouldn't it be great to live down the block from a place like the Ear Inn?

I always wondered how horn people can find the right note in something like the breaks where they have to hit different notes. Hats off to horn players. p.s. love that note at 1:28. p.p.s. 5:17 what an amiable bunch!

Playfullmess can go higher i my view its nice but i miss a little on that particular part of the music (i would suggest to play more in the now of the music), if i may say.
