You say you’re not an artist, but as far as I’m concerned, you most definitely are. An injury and major surgery has postponed some plans, but after watching this I am definitely going to make a cross country Amtrak trip.
Speaking of unusual Amtrak situations. In 2020 when the lockdowns first started, P052 Auto-train had such a situation. A derailment in Deland FL, caused them to run the entire trainset in reverse, with a P42 at the rear end of the train acting essentially like a DPU. They ran it south bound with the entire trainset facing north through downtown Orlando all the way to Auburndale where they wyed the whole thing, dropped the rear unit and ran up the S line, which hasn't seen Amtrak trains on it for many years. It then took a right at Baldwin and continued up the A-line in Jax. P053 made the same trip south the next day.
Nice! I know that area well recently in PA an NS String line derailment at Summit Cut caused amtraks Capital Limited 30 and 29 to run the Bayard Branch which hadnt seen passenger in 40+ years atleast
DJ, what an awesome video! Greatly appreciated. Your commentary lends a great deal to the video. Love how your layout is coming along. You make it possible for me to see areas of the US that I would never get to see and certainly wouldn't get to see them from the drone altitude!! Thanks so much!
Pretty cool DJ. I went to Longview, TX to visit a friend and got to film the Texas Eagle (#22) and it was also 1 engine and 4 superliners. The platform was longer than the train but it stopped roughly in the middle. Cool footage and the layout is coming alone quite nicely. 😃 - Jason
Awesome stuff! That’s my buddy’s Yellow Can Am in the drone shot of the Greensburg station. He takes care of the place so if you ever want a closer inspection I’m sure we can arrange something.
I absolutely love your drone work. I look for prototypical information on Google maps, but your footage is so much better and your insight is extremely helpful. Do what you love doing and post what you want to post. Your audience will find you just as I did.
Stellar video, DJ. Totally rocked the prototype IRL vs. your layout. The drone, and ground shots vs. your project really tied everything together so well. Your model RR tips are really helping my projects. Thanks!
Great video. I’m an N scale model railroader myself. I’m in the process of building my permanent layout for the Pacific West Coast model railroad which is the name of my N scale model railroad. The era I’m doing is from 1974 to the present. It will focus on the entire West Coast from Tijuana,Baja California Norte,Mexico to Vancouver,British Columbia,Canada & all of the railroads that serve & have served the West Coast of North America. My track is Kato, so are my 3 Amtrak P42 locomotives, my Santa Fe SDP40F & Southern Pacific EMD SD70M and the Southern Pacific Daylight locomotive number 4449 & the 10 car Morning Daylight train set and my Amtrak Superliner are all Kato. My N scale freight cars are Kato, Atlas, Micro Trains. I will be scratch building a Spanish style covered walkway for the Amtrak station & the Amtrak station as well which will be like the Santa Barbara Amtrak station with some modification.
I got to ride the Capitol Limited in 2019. Really enjoyed the views as we passed through your corner of PA and love to see your footage, especially the outstanding work you do with the drone. Nice job capturing those spots in miniature.
Hi DJ, I love your videos I watch everyone that you publish! I appreciate the time you spent for each one. I like that you have an inside angle as an train engineer. The drone footage is great and I like it that you juxtapose actual scenery for your layout scenery. So I don't know why you are not getting a lot of hits on RUclips.
@@djstrains I never made a RUclips video before, but I have certainly watched quite a few. But I think in your case maybe do the intro with drone footage, specific drone footage and then show how to model that. It almost seems like you should have two RUclips channels, one from modeling and the other four explaining train operations. But I like how you incorporate both aspects into your videos!
Not a bad video. Who am I kidding, it's amazing. I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between your layout and the real world if you didn't point it out on some of the shots.
love the idea of an Amtrak-specific layout. Thank you for sharing. Really wish your live views/models had included the station at Staunton, VA on the CSX line. If only because of the bridge it goes under (walk path) and then over (road with giant water pot art). Not to mention the fact the station itself is built on a curve in the tracks.
Just a note for the Superliner consist, the Sleeper's are always either at the head of the consist whenever there's not a baggage car (though I think the bag cars are sometimes at the end of the train in recent years), then the diner, sightseer (when it's in the consist), and then the coach cars. The Capitol Limited typically fits that consist layout.
This is really great, DJ! I must be behind the times. I thought a while back you said you were going HO. I love N scale, of course, you get so much more into a given space. I like the way you have done that.
Your doing a great job on your layout DJ, very nice & well thought out 👍, you do a very great job of doing drone footage also, always enjoy & learn from your vids, you take care & stay safe buddy.👋😎🛤🚂
In the real world (as opposed to your N scale model trains) as Amtrak traverses your "You, yourself, personally run territory" if Amtrak needs an NS or CSX locomotive do you get to drive the CSX/Amtrak train as you are more familiar with the locomotives as opposed to someone who normally just drives a P-40 or a P-42? or How does that work?? -》and of course, as a retired subscriber who no longer lives in a place where a model train is practical (for reasons I choose not to share) I love your drone and model train footage both 👍👍👍✌
The only difference in engines is the automatic braking which would take a few minutes to get refamiliar with for an amtrak engineer. They just added the loco and continued their route.
Took the Capitol Limited back in 2016 Oct. Chicago to DC and back. From Ohio to DC a smooth ride and enjoyable. But The western section Chicago to Cleveland, I felt everything in the rails. Hope this part get updated, if it hasn’t already, with the infrastructure bill. Been told that the western rides were smooth and best trips.
The US government is wasting our taxes on funding their new war project in Ukraine. The military industrial complex and K Street comes first. If they stupidly provoke WW3, infrastructure won't matter.

I don’t think their engines are dp capable. You also can’t get from the engine to the cars without getting off the engine and then having to walk the train length on the ground and climb up the other engine. Dp is better suited for long heavy freight trains. If they do any back up moves, the conductor is able to view from rear car, so no need for an engine that I can see

I think the Connellsville station you have now is fine. Just paint the roof gray.
It was a cheap old faller kit. Its amazing that the old kits are so good when painted and weathered. But I do want to try to build the new one.
Don’t forget to add the occasional ‘private varnish’ to the tail of your train. One (or two) painted & lettered for the Pennsy will do! 👍🏻
