One of best things I ever saw by George Carlin came ca.1979 in a show called The Chuck Barris Rah-Rah Show, where he stood on the stage for three minutes without saying a thing. No weird expressions, nothing. He just looked back at the audience. The audience was cracking up neverthless. Then he concluded by saying, "Thank you very much!" Then Milton DeLugg played him off as he left the stage.
This bit is why I love to go into crowded places and shout "your attention please, your attention" and after a couple moments I'll just say "thank you for your attention" and move on.
Best comic out there. Philosphy delivered with a laugh. He always made you think in the end....Great man. RIP sir, you are missed so much. We need you in today's world.
Speaking of toll roads; I had an uncle who drove a big rig for years. Since he knew he did not pay a toll when hauling gas or fuel; he would tell the attendents he had a truck load of "sailboat fuel". He said he never got stopped and drove right on through when he said this.
Cranford Ducain He was BSing you. All trucks pay tolls. It's that he was lying to them to not have to pay. I haul food to hazmat. We all pay a toll. No one is special here to be able to get out of it.
Yes it is, because once you're out of the marina, you raise the sails and cut off the engine. You can't sail in and out of your slip at the marina with your sails up, it wont work. You can't go in reverse with sails either. There are times when the wind totally dies and you don't go any where. That situation is called "stays". Getting stuck in stays absolutely sucks. Having a motor will get you out of that situation if need be. Sails are great when there is wind, but when there's no wind to be had, it's a bad problem. It's not fun to be stuck out on the ocean or even in the middle of the bay and the boat goes no where, just sits there and bobs in the water and you cook in the sun.
While George DID have better routines than some of these, he had some that many people feel were worse as well, so it comes down to "whichever ones you like the best", a "personal favorites" kind of thing. One thing most people agree on, is that he's "one of the best of his time", so R.I.P., George Carlin!
Second observation.... He wasn't just a comedian, George Carlin was a performer extraordinaire. He knew how to hold your attention with his mannerisms & such. That's what made him even much more than a cut above the rest.

Saw him in 1975 in Omaha…laughed so hard I had tears running down my cheeks.
Carlin is a legend, and a lot of his stuff is timeless, but he was exceptionally funny at the time period each of his bits were written. I did not realize this until much later. It’s funny, but it is even funnier if you were there then. RIP
My hero ❤ You are still greatly missed and loved 😢😊 Thank you George Carlin for the memories and thank youtube.
Funny. Carlin is the best ever. But he had dozens of better routines than this.
ReeseRad 0721 This is not his best work at all.
I dare say this is the worst that he had
His lame, commercial period.
ReeseRad 0721
Agreed.
ReeseRad 0721 yeah. I love his old stuff....Tondelao and Congolia Breckenridge for instance
He blessed my life just being who he was.
This bit is why I love to go into crowded places and shout "your attention please, your attention" and after a couple moments I'll just say "thank you for your attention" and move on.
Brilliant
Haha
Best comic out there. Philosphy delivered with a laugh. He always made you think in the end....Great man. RIP sir, you are missed so much. We need you in today's world.
Speaking of toll roads; I had an uncle who drove a big rig for years. Since he knew he did not pay a toll when hauling gas or fuel; he would tell the attendents he had a truck load of "sailboat fuel". He said he never got stopped and drove right on through when he said this.
Cranford Ducain damn that's good
Cranford Ducain He was BSing you. All trucks pay tolls. It's that he was lying to them to not have to pay. I haul food to hazmat. We all pay a toll. No one is special here to be able to get out of it.
My father's sail boat has two engines, an in board and an outboard, so he does need fuel for them. In fact, many sail boats have engines in them.
If a “sailboat” has a need for gas, it’s not a sailboat.
Pure nostalgia at the start there - everyone had one of those Mickey Mouse watches back in the day!
While George DID have better routines than some of these, he had some that many people feel were worse as well, so it comes down to "whichever ones you like the best", a "personal favorites" kind of thing. One thing most people agree on, is that he's "one of the best of his time", so R.I.P., George Carlin!
That's an elaborate set for a stand-up show.
Second observation.... He wasn't just a comedian, George Carlin was a performer extraordinaire. He knew how to hold your attention with his mannerisms & such. That's what made him even much more than a cut above the rest.
Germs and the immune system is one of my favourites
"We swam in shit!" Loved that routine!
My wife passed in 2020 between my family and George they have helped me out of the sever depression I’ve been in for nearly two years thank god for George he kept me from going in the depression any deeper
