Mrs. K popping in early & hilarity ensues.😁 I think whatever pasta holds sauce will do. For box mac & cheese I've also seen straight pasta, tiny shells & hideous cut out shapes that's supposed to represent cartoon characters for kids.😆 Nice that you got the ludicrously expensive pasta roller, I've been thinking about getting one myself. I didn't think of using it for pie dough, now I'll have to take the plunge.😃🥧 If you ever have leftover mac & cheese or just make some to do this, you can make fun finger food out of it. Put the mac & cheese into a pan, how thick you want it is up to you, smooth out the top, chill overnight. Cut into squares or rectangles, dip into egg wash, then breadcrumbs or panko. Deep fry till golden, stuff face. Kinda like arancini.🤤
Keef, that looks so delicious! I must try your onion infusion method. Sounds delicious and would give a flavour boost to baked Mac and cheese. It's funny, we can only get elbow macaroni here on Canada. The straight stiff is what you get in the boxes with a sachet of powder for the sauce. The name brand is Kraft Dinner, but there are knock offs.
OOOOOOHHHHH my gosh!!! I should have suggested this aggggeeees ago!!! Why a pie + macorini cheese isn't as good as a macaroni pie I will never know. I have also had a macaroni pie with a 'meatball' made of haggis and black pudding inside it.
Another odd international difference. In the US, elbow macaroni is omnipresent; finding straight macaroni takes some effort. For some reason, grocery chains (at least in New England) are allotting less real estate to pasta, and the sometimes overwhelming level of choice has diminished accordingly.
Keef, Being 'Scotch* cuisine' shouldn't this have a traditional baked Mars Bar in the middle? 😁 You can never have enough carbs. (*For English/Welsh versions, either add a hard-boiled egg or a Leek in the middle.) Pleased to hear you're making progress on the Scotch Mutton Pies 🥧 . One to look forward to. Thank you, Rick
There's no such thing as a "traditional baked Mars Bar" - they're deep fried, and they're not common at all, most Scots have never actually been to a chippy that sells them. They're a novelty item made up as a joke and sold to tourists.
Keef, should you like a dawdle of a vid, why not walk us through your homemade butter which you've mentioned before. We made butter in my 1st grade class in elementary school lo, these many years syne, and it was smashing. Tried to show my boys (now 27 & 24!) when they were lads & buggered it all to heck. Anyway, butter in any form is wonderful & I'm sure yours is the bollocks! Cheers.
@@Keefcooks I should've checked your archives; my apologies. None other than Jacques Pepin stated more than once that should he choose a last meal, it would be a loaf of good bread & butter...
Meanwhile, across the pond, notes are scribbled furiously as one from the newer Scotland sorts out how much ham or bologna and mixed vegetables can be added to the mac 'n' cheese mixture. #KDLifeHacks
@@Keefcooks Well, if one plays with the cheeses used, one can readily play with the other things as well. Apart from the crust, it seems a very flexible dish. 8)
Nice. I always put some minced onion from a shaker in my macaroni and cheese.
Edgar, is that the dried onion "sprinkles", like the bacon sprinkles? I'll have to try it. Thanks, Rick
Indeed it is! It comes in a powder as well but I find the flakes to taste nicer.

About the grater, your drawers/cupboards sound like mine Keith 😂😂😂
And you might throw a bit of buttered crumbs over top before baking for jollies. Yum!
Love it! Cheers!
Gee it's hard to say goodbye!! Thanks for the recipe
Goodbye?

Mmmmmm Keef that look lush

That looks absolutely gorgeous! Bet it smells beautiful, too. I might have a go at inventing Smell-O-Vision.
Macaroni pie?! I’m in love! Never heard of it but it looks like what dreams are made of ❤️
Love pies
Love Mac and cheese
Great video recipe Keef 👍🏻
Looks delish and I’m wondering why I haven’t made this before 😊

OOOOOOHHHHH my gosh!!! I should have suggested this aggggeeees ago!!!

All you needed to say was macaroni pie..I'm in!

I think pasta is in decline generally.
@@Keefcooks oh no! Curse those carbophobes.
Mac pies are best eaten cold, or hot in a Mac pie supper for the chip pie (when the vinegar soaks into the bottom of the pie 🤤)! 🏴

They are ssssstttttt
Onion in the milk? It must be an english variant. Try putting some grated Parmesan in the pastry for a tasty Aberdeen variant.
As I explained in the video, it's my own personal preference, just as putting cheese in the pastry is not something I would do.

I did it 5 years ago: ruclips.net/video/Zg7f8RHT4mI/видео.html Might do a remake soon!

I was tempted to cram some bacon in there, and maybe some herbs, but this is meant to be the very basic version that you'd buy for almost nothing.

Yes I would definitely add pulled pork and drizzle tangy sweet BBQ sauce over it 😋
It's Friday I need a beer
Is this freezable Keef? Can you shove it in the freezer and let us know? I'm a cheeky mare, LOL
I haven't got any to freeze right now, but I reckon they'll work just fine.
ITS Kevin

I’m wondering how many poor souls are buried under the patio
I'm wondering why you're talking bollocks
But .. but .. they're not covered with dough!!!
Cheese!
I know. #notreallyapie. You should see the Caribbean version!
@@Keefcooks now you will have to show us the Caribbean version, please 🙏
Yep. Where I work, we put a pastry lid on top and then cover with grated cheese, and then bake.
Hahaha. To many carbs for me. Now pork pie I am in!
