    Was having pump problem that did not resolve with clearing the plastic tubing. Had watched this video several times so decided to take the plunge and dive into the innards of the dehumidifier. Sure enough lots of mold buildup in the screen and the little float chamber. Managed to reassemble it with only 2 screws left over. Has been pumping like a champ since yesterday. Thanks for your help.

    Mr. LoRollinsLS: Your video is spot on. I purchased my unit in June of 2015 and had no problems till recently. I followed your instruction and found the filter to be caked with slime-mold which caused the water not to enter the pump reservoir. With diligent cleaning and careful reassembly, I am back up in running. You are a man after my own persuasion. We must teach our children the value of being self reliant.

    This is a very bad crappy design. The best design is the one that has a good old fashioned water collection tank that sits below the evaporator coils. They are cramming to much stuff into these. I have repaired several of these crappy dehumidifiers. Great video though.

    For those of you having trouble getting the back off, there are 2 screws near the bottom (one on each side) where the black and white plastic meet. They are recessed and kind of hidden. There are plastic 'hinge hooks" at the top of the black piece near where the handle is. I found it easiest to pull the black back cover from the bottom and let it 'swing' out and then pull it away the top. Reverse the process to put the cover back on.

      Thanks for this! The video itself had me screaming "Get to the point!" so I skipped to the comments when it became clear that he wasn't going to explain how he got the cover off. Sure enough, I had overlooked those two recessed screws at the bottom.

    I had the same issue with the same model. When I got it apart, per the fine instructions here and in the linked videos, I found a moderately revolting MAT of some biological nature had grown onto the filter screen. I can't imagine how _any_ water could have gotten through to the water-pump reservoir.
    So I scraped it off, reassembled it, and it appears to be pumping water. The bucket is dry.
    Thanks for the help!

  • @jds1vette

    Okay, I did it...Couldn't believe the amount of goo in there. One tip about removing the float/tank cover. If you look at 4:53 of the video you see the cover. In the center there is a tab about 1/4 inch wide, (tab is missing in video) you have to slightly lift to slide the cover forward. Also, before you remove the float cover, there is a wire that is kind of tight. You can see where the wire is held by a clip and you can just move the wire around the clip until you're done and just slide it back in place. Thanks for the video.

  • @LydiaMcGrewChannel

    I just wanted to mention for everybody's info. that HiSense has evidently changed their model. We have a more recent version of this same dehumidifier, and it is now much, much harder to get at the place that needs to be cleaned out. They have trapped it *behind the entire condenser unit*. So unfortunately that makes it a lot more complicated to use this solution. Once we saw how different it was, we didn't go any farther. We just turned the pump off and set it up on a table with the gravity feed option and a garden hose, which is one option. But this is a bit of a disappointment since of course we bought it originally hoping to use the pump option. It really looks like HiSense is trying to make it impossible to fix this design flaw in their own machine, which is extremely annoying. They should have made it *easier* to get at the pump reservoir and screen and just made it a part of expected maintenance. Instead, they went the opposite direction, so now basically the lifetime of the pump is just 3 or 4 months unless you know to put additional filter medium on at the very beginning of using the unit before it clogs up.

      Where is the condenser unit...I must have the same model as mine is newer and I can't find the float compartment that he is talking about.

    • @LydiaMcGrewChannel
      @LydiaMcGrewChannel 7 лет назад

      The float compartment on our newer one is literally trapped behind all the metal coils. If you take the back off and you see all the coils and stuff right there in front of you, then down at the bottom left you can see the very edge of the float compartment, and the top part is covered up by the coil unit. There's no good way to get it out. I wish I'd covered the outside of the intake with HEPA filter back when I first bought the thing, but I didn't realize how simple that is to do.

    • @danielb6814
      @danielb6814 5 лет назад +1

      I also have this version. It's not as bad as it first appears. They basically turned everything around backwards from the one shown in video. Take the back cover off, then the front (lots of phillips head screws) then remove the wiring compartment and fan housing. Be careful not to damage any of the wiring or force anything. The reservoir and two screens are right there under the float cover. All you need is patience and cordless impact or drill with a phillips head bit. A poor design.. yes, but it can be disassembled, cleaned and put back together in an hour.

    Thanks for the video. I used this today to tear down and clean the reservoir. The accumulated dirt and pseudo-biological material clogging the screen was beyond disgusting. Its hard to imagine a less user friendly design in terms of cleaning the pump reservoir. Its not like you can install this (or any) dehumidifier and forget about it. They will all require some level of periodic maintenance beyond cleaning the intake filters.

    Great video. Thanks. The newer Hisense model that looks like yours has a smaller round tubular screen behind the water bucket. Once you pull out the bucket there is a round knob that can be unscrewed which holds a rubber stopper in place that protects the screen -- once the knob and rubber are removed, the screen can easily be taken out and clean. No tools needed.

  • @milbournema

    On mine the pump got noisy and it would quit pumping with the light blinking. Didn't have much crud in the filter(s), and just light crud on the tank surfaces. Checked the entire path to the pump and even disassembled the pump and found no obvious issues. But it's now working again. Have surmised the the float switch that triggered the pump was sticking and wouldn't drop down, so it would keep pumping, going dry (hence the noise) and finally time out, triggering the blinking light to indicate a pumping problem. So just the disassembly and generally cleaning of the tank/float switch area fixed any sticking.

    Yes, I cleaned the screen several times - not sure even need that screen to protect the pump) - but now it looks like the pump doesn't turn on at all. May be that the fuse to the pump is now blown (its in the plastic pump housing) - will see.

    • @lorollinls

    • @PaulLebow

      I think the crud would be very dilute and pass through the pump easily. It just builds up on that silly screen. Got to get out my meter and see what's getting voltage. The float switch doesn't seem to be the problem - oh well.

    I just bought a DH100KP1WG, not the same size as in your video. Anywho, my unit isn't collecting water--- not a drop! The fan is running, so I know it's not a fan issue. I called HiSense Customer Service and they walked me through a "Reset" -- basically, unplug unit, depress POWER switch for 30 seconds, then plug back in , and power On. He told me to wait 2 hours to see if this "fixed" the issue. We'll see. The rep told me that HiSense isn't designed to work in temperatures cooler than 60 degrees! I can imagine my finished basement is in the upper 50s as it's wintertime here . Can't believe a dehumidifier isn't designed to work in temps less than 60 degrees. Sounds like a persnickety design! Keeping my fingers crossed the "reset' works and the unit starts collecting water! (p.s. the unit i want this one to replace is a Frigadaire, still works like a charm, is smaller and continues to collect water only 10 feet away from the HiSense unit. I may return the Hi Sense and keep the Frigadaire!) Anyone else have this same issue with the unit not collecting water?

    Same issue. Mine will pump for awhile. Then boom starts shutting off. Every 1-2 seconds shuts off. Comes right back on. Mine ran for 3 days out of the box. It might run for 3-4 hours and starts it again. These things are junk. Hisense is sending a replacement. Gonna be about a month.

    I’m having the exact same issue with the same Hisense dehumidifier. The pump hasn’t completely failed and the switch appears to work as the pump will occasionally come on and function as intended but then the pump light will eventually start flashing and the bucket will fill with water. I’ve checked the hose and made sure the little plug referenced in the manual is properly in place. The unit is less than 6 months old. A quick way to fix this issue without having to tear apart your machine is to fill up your water tank with white vinegar and let it go through your pump system. Do it every month and you won't have any dirty build up.

    • @lorollinls
      @lorollinls  Год назад

      Well, that’s not going to do much good. The dehumidifier won’t pump water out of the bucket (where you would be adding the vinegar). You have to dump the bucket by hand.

      @@lorollinls It will after the vinegar sits in the holding tray long enough to eat away the corrosion. I use green gobbler because it's non acidic. Have never had to tear apart the machine to clean it, and I live in an area where 100% humidity is the norm throughout spring and summer.

      @@apostasiaelegcho5612 I think you’re missing the point that the vinegar will never reach the area of the dehumidifier that gets clogged up if you just pour it in the collection tank. The pump doesn’t pump that water out. It collects in a tiny holding tank inside the dehumidifier that trips the pump when it gets full. You would have to take the unit apart to pour the vinegar in the tiny holding tank for it to do any good and actually get sucked through the pump.

    I disassembled the unit as you did, but had to take an extra step. I took apart the pump and cleaned it out. I was shocked at how much crap these units collect over time, and the gunk in the thin pump tubing had solidified. Luckily the pump was happy with that and it did not need replacing.

Have been pouring bleach in the water bucket, but that is only masking the smell. I have turned the unit off now. Have got to clean it! Allergic to mold. Living in our 30 foot travel trailer now while building a new home in a different town. Had a water leak in our old house that we didn't know we had til it had produced a lot of black mold and had made me VERY ill. Came home from being up here a few days and it was like a moldy towel hit me in the face when I walked into the house. Husband and son tore out all the moldy wood and replaced it.
    I just got my bags and went back to the trailer when that happened, and said I won't be back in there anymore. Now I am have those same symptoms again.
    We have to have the dehumidifier or the whole travel trailer will be moldy. Can't have it in here. I don't have anywhere else to go live right now!
    I removed all those short screws but the cover didn't budge. What's the secret to getting it off, please. Would live to nit have to buy a new one right now if it's possible.

      Ouch, I am sorry to hear all of that! Hope you feel better soon. As "JBE Consulting" said in the comments below: "For those of you having trouble getting the back off, there are 2 screws

      meet. They are recessed and kind of hidden. There are plastic 'hinge
      hooks" at the top of the black piece near where the handle is. I found
      it easiest to pull the black back cover from the bottom and let it
      'swing' out and then pull it away the top. Reverse the process to put
      the cover back on.
      That's all that you really have to do.

      Lay the unit down on its face , on the bottom there is two screws , one on each side where the white and black panels come together . Then stand the unit upright , there is two plastic clips in the top of the black panel that go under the edge of the white panel . You may use a flat screwdriver, or butter knife to raise the white panel a little, to help the clips to let go . I didn't know they was there , and broke one of mine off . The clips are close to where the carrying handle is , just out from the sides of it.

    I have this unit as well. My issue was the shut off switch stopped working for the fill tank. Consequently when the storage tank got full it would spill over and out of the cabinet. I contacted Hisense cust svc and they told me to cut the plug off the unit and send it to them with a photocopy of the receipt and they would refund my purchase price which they did. So I still have the unit, I put a new plug on the power cable and it still works but only with the garden hose drain option. I would like to open this thing up to see if I can get the switch working again. It sounds like maybe the screen may be clogged and not allowing water to fill the tank where the switch is to allow it to work. But, I still have essentially a free unit since they refunded my money.

      pull the bucket out & look at the top left, there should be a metal rod which is the float switch actuator sticking out & you should be able to push in and feel the switch spring pushing it back out. This what the float depresses to turn off the unit, mine got stuck all the way in and the unit was overflowing & pump was not working. I took the back off, 5 screws including two hidden ones on the side/bottom of the cabinet and got the float switch working again. Then cleaned the pump reservoir/float/lines & now the unit is back working like it should.

    Thanks for the insight on the Hisense DH-70KP1SLE dehumidifier. Following your instructions, I found mine to have the same issue. What I found was not so much dirt as it was fungus. I cleaned it out completely and then reassembled everything leaving the back cover off and reconnecting the outlet line/hose to the unit...I plugged it in and powered it up.
    Next, I diluted a gallon tub of bleach-water and using a turkey baster, I slowly filled the condensation tank through the conveniently sized opening next to the float switch. I repeated the process until the gallon of bleach-water mixture was all gone (this took some time and patience). Having done that, it seemed to clean out the pump as well as the small connector line from the bottom of the pump to the outlet fitting.
    Thanks to your video, I will perform this type of scheduled/preventive maintenance annually. I have had my unit for at least 4 years and this is the first time I have gone this much in depth to clean it.
    Personally, I don't think the extra filtration (as you used in the next video after two days) will be necessary since the object is to get the highest airflow (air containing moisture) and not so much clean air. As I mentioned earlier, fungus growing in the tank and through the pump system was more of an initial cause of the issue.
    My dehumidifier is located in a crawlspace with about a foot of overhead clearance near my heat-pump air handler in mid Georgia. Output from pump occurs every 2.5 minutes after the cleaning. On next and all future annual maintenance cycles, I think I will replace 9mm outlet hose and short hose from bottom of the pump to outlet fitting.
    Hope this helps someone.

      John, thanks for the kinds words and comment! I have already proven, as you will see in some of my recent videos, that the extra filtration has done wonders for the unit. My added filters actually flow air very well. These are what is keeping this unit clean for 6 months now where I only got about 2-3 months without the filters. This unit HAS NO FILTERS on it from the factory, they are pieces of screen, which do absolute JACK to filter air.

      Thanks for the reply. I was getting 2-3 months also before cleaning. I will let you know in 1 year how the unit with "stock" filters performed if in fact it can make it that long (fingers crossed). If it does require re-cleaning prior to one year I will let you know about that also. I would not have attempted to troubleshoot this issue had you not

      John, please pick up some well breathing hepa filter material and tape it to the side of your unit like I did at the very least. This is CHEAP AND EASY!!!! It will save you from having to rip this thing apart again for a very long time. Your unit is in a crawl space with lots of dirty air moving nearby because of the heat pump, it will get dirty again inside in no time. Just trying to save you some heartache. 😉 Good luck my friend.

      Thanks for the advice. However, I am in "experimental" mode for this last "nuclear" cleaning cycle. I am too curious to know what the stock unit can do and how long it can do it in a fairly harsh environment. Besides, it didn't take that long to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. Maybe I do need a lot of luck to make it a year "hands-off" but for me it is just an experiment.

    I've had this unit for about 2 years and just had my first major issue - my pump also stopped working and was filling up the basin at the bottom. When I went to check on it, the clear plastic hose that came with the unit was totally "swiss cheesed"/decomposed/disintegrated. It honestly looked like a pack of rats had chewed it up, but after further inspection it appears that the plastic was decomposed by the water being pumped out. To put it another way, the water that was being drained was eating away at the plastic tubing. After watching a few videos I'm starting to get nervous as to the mold/fungus situation that is almost assuredly growing underneath the hood of this thing.
    One question I do have - and I'm surprised no one else has asked it - does the drain hook up on the SIDE of the unit work with the pump? This looks like a garden hose would screw into it, and in fact when I went back to Lowes to see about replacing the clear tube, I was instead told to purchase item #296668 (Model #7507100). I'm thinking that this "solution" is not really what I want - the pump is taken out of this equation and instead the water removal relies on gravity (I think).
    Anyway...sorry for the run-on post. I'm gonna turn this thing on tonight with this black garden hose coming out the side and see what happens. Will have to check the warranty status as well. I'd much rather replace the unit than have to deal with taking it apart - assuming the replacement is free!
    Thank you again for posting these videos - please please PLEASE keep us up to date on any issues or problems this Hisense unit gives you now that you've got 'er working again. You've gain a subscriber and I look forward to any updates you may have :)

      Alex W, thanks for the kind words. You are correct in that the Garden hose hook up on the side of the unit is for gravity draining. It does not work with the pump. I haven’t been running mine as much lately because the humidity has been rather low where I live, but with summer approaching it will be time to start turning it on again soon and I will try to do another update. Thanks for watching and thanks for subscribing!

      Just wanted to give you a quick update, I ended up finding the correct sized clear tube and hooked it up to the drain connector, and then plugged that into the machine. Immediately the pump kicked on and water slowly creeped through the drain down into my sub pump. But, 2 days later I noticed the humidity in the basement was over 60, so I went down and low and behold the pump stopped working again. So I went online and found out that I purchased the item June 5th, meaning I've got about 3 weeks before it runs out. Going to give hisense a call tmrw to see about getting this repaired/replaced. I have absolutely no interest in taking it apart if I can just get a replacement/repair via Hisense. But if that falls through I'll be going your route. Will keep you updated and thanks again for the vids!

    • @lorollinls
      @lorollinls  6 лет назад +1

      I understand, but if you will watch the follow up videos to this, you will notice that having it replaced one time won't fix the problem forever. The problem lies in the unit not having proper filtration. In my opinion, it would be much quicker to take this thing apart, clean it, and add some filtration all at the same time to prevent/prolong this from happening again. Good Luck and thanks for the update!

      Thanks for the info - I was hoping that they would send me a different model (most likely refurbished), but at least it would be newer and hopefully last more than 2 years! Or if I was feeling REALLLLLY lucky, maybe they'd tell me to take a picture of my unit with the power cord cut with the serial # visible, and then cut me a check for the original MSRP that I paid 23 months ago. If they do send the same model back, I'll have to look into purchasing a third party warranty to cover it.
      Just curious, do you know which of the scenarios I described above is most likely to occur? I have yet to call - stupid, I know. I've wasted more time emptying that damn bucket than I would have spent on the phone/exchanging emails/driving to UPS, etc Usually empty is about 4x a day and that's being lax. If I emptied it within 10 minutes of the tank filling I would have to empty it at least 10x a day. Either way, I've blocked off a section of day tomorrow to getting the warranty honored with Hisense. Any BS and I'm driving to my local Lwoes and telling them to replace it. Thank god for electronic receipts - otherwise I never would have remembered the date/amount/etc.
      Look forward to your response and I will update again hopefully within a week!
