  • Sewage pollution has been one of Britain's worst scandals over the past few years. But, how bad is the problem really, and how can we fix it?

It would require a huge investment to fix the problem which is caused by the significant increase in population. That investment will be coming from us via much higher prices.

@@stumac869 What leads you to believe its only an issue of population increase? How come sewerage discharge has increased thousands of times over since 2016 then, how much did the population increase in just 7 years for it to get that much worse?
Also how many cubic meters of water does your household use annually? As a single occupant I use about 12 a year or 1 a month being less than a quarter the average, my bill is largely just the standing charge. Of course there are also issues around urban planning/construction, agricultural practice ect.
Of course its easy just to say "bwah it's a huge investment, just neeeeed more money thrown at it ok"
Oh and the industry will just continue to develop and manage the infrastructure as it wants with all that money right?

Sewage in our bathing areas was a serious problem before privatisation. The sea off Bournemouth and Poole was full of raw excrement at Alum and Branksome Chines. They now have blue flags, (for whatever that is worth)
The Teign estuary is one large, stinking sewer. I have written to Teignbridge MP Anne Morris and received soundbite platitudes. The River Weaver at Nantwich is like Brown Windsor soup, full of sewage. I wrote, complaining, to the MP, Kieran Mullan, who said he was unable to help as I was not a constituant!!! They don't care....

Having thought about this issue long and hard and come to the conclusion that it is symbolic of so much that is wrong with England. Corruption , public apathy , lack of planning , lack of unity over basic services , handing over control to foreign investors , denial , pathological hatred of taxation and nationalisation , arrogance , complacency ( “ it will be ok “ ) , self destructive stupidity , naive trust in capitalism to solve everything etc etc . We all need to look at ourselves in the mirror. They say that a people get the Governments they deserve . Well , we got a bunch of idiots for decades who did nothing about this impending crisis. But it’s more than this. Our leaders were afraid of coming to us and saying “ look , if you want clean water then you are going to have to pay for it and we are going to have to do it as a nation “. Instead it was left to foreign hedge fund investors and people who don’t even live here , and that did exactly what oh would expect them to do…..take out as much money as they could and put in as little as they could get away with. It’s not rocket science. We have been ecologically raped by scammers…and we allowed it to happen. Wake up oh England from your slumber and reclaim your nation from these greedy fools. It’s water , railways , health , roads , education etc etc…..you name it , we mess it up.

Mass migration is a major part of this problem. The amount of sewage entering a sewage treatment works is the true way of measuring a population.
